This is a 90s number ones rate using every song that hit number 1 in the 1990s. What will happen is there will be 10 rounds, the first being 1990, then 1991 etc. up to round 10 which will be 1999. After the 10 rounds, the top 4 from every year will then be put together for one final rate which will make up a top 40 of the decade.

How you rate the songs; you do not rate every song that hit number one, you just rate your ten favourites and your least favourite. You give +15 points to your favourite song, and the rest are as follows; This is to hopefully stop ties from happening inside the top 3.

+15 Favourite Song

+12 2nd Favourite Song

+10 3rd Favourite Song

+08 4th Favourite

+06 5th Favourite

+05 6th Favourite

+04 7th Favourite

+03 8th Favourite

+02 9th Favourite

+01 10th Favourite

-02 Least Favourite, or Most Hated depending on what way you look at it

Below are the songs you need to rate from. You have 2 days for every round to rate. DanielGaGa should be back to carry on the rest of the game sometime on Sunday but the time is obviously up to him.

1. George Michael 'Jesus to a Child'

Two -2s for the Spice Girls already :o At least the hate will be fairly split.

I genuinely have no idea what's going to happen this round.

-2 Prodigy - "Firestarter" - Quite how this has become so entrenched as a classic number one I've no idea.

Because it's wildly different to any other #1, because it was funny seeing a song like that at the top, because The Prodigy are very well loved within their genre  I don't know. Just some reasons that spring to mind.

Are you going to be tracking their points throughout?

*had no idea about that tragic massacre! reading the description of the video i was in shock! RIP to all the lost souls!

I hope Gina G does reasonably well in this round,i loved it in its day and still like it plus it would have won eurovision had televoting been part of eurovision at that time, there are some very strong number 1 1's in this round and im also thrilled to see the prodigy do so well so far, shame gary barlow ont though.

I'm not going to miss the chance to give top marks to the UK's greatest Eurovision entry (imo)!

Good to see another maximum score for Gina G

As if I was going to give it to anybody else  It's one of my all time favourite songs, and certainly one of my favourite UK #1's!

I echo what you said about the televoting being cruelly absent in 1996, the juries were completely out of touch. I loved The Voice (my 3rd favourite of 1996) but for a start Den Vilda was a far better 'new age' entry and Gina G was better than both of them :drama:

Even though i was happy with ireland to win in 1996 i was supporting gina g as i loved the song and i was shocked it didnt do better on the night.
DIE

(at least it wasn't Breathe I guess)

To be honest, I barely remember "Breathe". I went back and listened to all of the tracks on the list that I have in my collection (about 75% of them) and it still washed straight over me. Not like or dislike, just an ocean of averageness.

And is it really OK to shout "DIE" to a fellow poster just because of a difference of opinion?

Richard

A bumper year for number ones. This was the start of a sea-change in chart music; build and build and build a track before sale to dump it as high in the charts as possible (hence the silly number of number ones). Luckily, this was also a vintage year for chart music!

+15 Gina G - Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit (Sorry but this was (and still is) an absolute belter and guilty pleasure. I can't believe I'm rating this higher than the mighty Prodge but ah well!)

+12 The Prodigy - Breathe

+10 Chemical Brothers - Setting Sun

+8 The Prodigy - Firestarter

+6 Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack

+5 George Michael - Fast Love

+4 Spice Girls - Wannabe

+3 Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There

-2 Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffanys (god I truly despise this song!)

8th was a complete and utter insult, I'd have been ok if it had come 2nd or 3rd I guess...at least it went on to become a huge worldwide hit (US included)!
