March 30, 201114 yr The England team vs. Ghana were very promising. I actually enjoyed watching them more than the team that played Wales Late equaliser, but it was nice to see how much it meant to Ghana and their fans  & now I'm hoping Andy Carroll will come on and do what he did for England with Liverpool
March 30, 201114 yr I don't think i've ever celebrated a goal against England like I did Gyan's last night, such a quality goal and a fully deserved equaliser. The fact it cancelled out an Andy Carroll goal just made it all the sweeter. Also good to see Welbeck getting some game time, he's got a bright future ahead of him imo. March 30, 201114 yr Author Didn't watch the game, but I seriously wish the FA would tell fans (or at least give them some indication) if big names players aren't going to play. Really pisses me off, especially when they're charging £40 a ticket in most cases. There's a very good set of English players coming through, but can see them being majorly hyped up. We still won't be as good as Spain or Germany's teams by 2014.
March 30, 201114 yr One thing that I have noticed is that there has been some fuss about Jack Wilshere being selected for the Under 21 tournament this summer with concerns about him playing too many games. To my way of thinking, once a player is in the under 21 squad he should stay there until he is 21. After that, he can be selected for the England squad. Alternatively, if a player under 21 has been selected for the over 21 squad he should never be selected for under 21 duty again. I am leaning towards the first option where this is concerned.
March 30, 201114 yr Author I can see managers concerns. It's looking likely both Wilshere and Carroll will be in the u-21 squad for the summer even though both are what you would call England "regulars" now. It's looking likely England will qualify for Euro 2012 next year aswell, so it means the players won't be getting a full rest until the summer of 2013 (and a full pre-season with their clubs). It's a bit silly really. I don't think players should stick with the u-21s until they're 21 either. Some players just have raw talent and you can see it from a young age - if you're good enough, you're old enough imo.
March 30, 201114 yr Players will benefit from playing in major tournaments. So, Jack Wilshere will benefit from playing in an U21 tournament. Other countries will have players who have played for the senior team. Why should England be different?

Wasn't implying it was for England only, just using the highlighted issue of Wilshere as an example as it had been in the news lately.
April 22, 201114 yr Wilshere has said he wants to play in the Olympics next year as well. It's nice to see a player who wants to represent their nation.
June 4, 201114 yr Anyone watch this afternoon? Was a decent game and I don't think we played that badly. We'd have won if it weren't for Milner and Bent - SITTER!
June 4, 201114 yr Yeah, it was a decent game but a disappointing result. Montenegro 0-0 against Bulgaria at half time.
June 4, 201114 yr Montenegro :P Hope it stays the same. There's no reason why England can't win the group.
June 4, 201114 yr Author Only watched the 1st half of England, but our midfield was seriously pathetic. We don't have the players to play 4-3-3.
June 4, 201114 yr Only watched the 1st half of England, but our midfield was seriously pathetic. We don't have the players to play 4-3-3. I thought the Wilshere-Parker-Lampard combination was decent enough in previous games but only saw the last twenty minutes today. 4-3-3, with a reliable centre forward, would be the way to go.

Lampard needs to be dropped when Gerrard is fit again. He was f***ing terrible in the first half. For 4-3-3 to work really, we need a ball playing centre back, which we don't have. Neither Ferdinand nor Terry can really advance up the field with the ball at their feet and create space for the midfield. Milner and Walcott aren't really the best inside forwards either. Young and Rooney are probably better options if Bent is going to be the lead striker (although I'd expect that to change when Carroll's fit).

Gerrard needs to seriously prove himself, I see no reason why he should walk into the lineup ahead of someone of Lampard's calibre when he could easily play just as badly. I don't know who else could fit into that position though...

I don't know who else could fit into that position though... I can count the amount of good games Lampard has hand for England with my hands. Lampard and Gerrard cannot play together. They're both too similar. Gerrard offers more to his game than Lampard. Lampard's seriously $h!t. The most overrated player I've seen put on an England shirt. Makelele made him look so much better in his glory Chelsea days because he's a good attacking player, but just look at this year for example even for Chelsea he's been shown up massively.
June 5, 201114 yr Neither Gerrard or Lampard have ever been anywhere near as good for England as they have for their clubs. I see no reason why Gerrard should just walk back in the team ahead of him, it's not as if he's proven to be any more influential, apart from that game against Andorra.

So what's stopping him from being a good attacking player with the more defensively-minded Parker and Wilshere alongside him?
