November 16, 201113 yr Looking at the squad that went to the World Cup: GK: Green James Hart DF: Terry Upson Carragher King Warnock Dawson Johnson Cole MF: Gerrard Lampard Lennon Cole Barry Milner Wright-Phillips Carrick FW: Rooney Crouch Heskey Defoe At the most, I think that'll only be 9/23 of the players that'll go the Euro's. Quite a big turnaround I'd add Green to that list, I can't see Stockdale being picked over him, Green is much better and was only out of the current squad due to injury.
November 16, 201113 yr Author I still can't believe Stockdale's even in the England squad. I remember when he couldn't get a GAME for York in the Conference!!!
November 16, 201113 yr I'd add Green to that list, I can't see Stockdale being picked over him, Green is much better and was only out of the current squad due to injury. I thought he'd withdrawn himself from international duty? Or am I thinking of someone else.. Foster maybe ?
November 16, 201113 yr I thought he'd withdrawn himself from international duty? Or am I thinking of someone else.. Foster maybe ? Robinson, Green is very much available and (as ever) in decent form. Would be a travesty if he didn't go, despite the World Cup he's the only one I'd be confident of having in goal if something happened to Hart.
November 16, 201113 yr I still can't believe Stockdale's even in the England squad. I remember when he couldn't get a GAME for York in the Conference!!! Stockdale is shocking, I wouldn't even put him in the top 3 English keepers in the Championship. Meanwhile Sepp Blatter has issued a statement which says "any player racially abused on pitch should say 'this is a game ... and at the end of the game we shake hands'". Dear God! :manson:
November 16, 201113 yr So perhaps the next time Blatter attends an England game the crowd should spend all their time chanting about cow bells and cuckoo clocks?
November 16, 201113 yr Author Anyone know the odds for England to be knocked out by Germany? I'd imagine you'd probably have to walk in to a bookies and ask them at this moment. There's not much Euro 2012 online betting at the moment apart from points/when teams get knocked out of qualifying/
November 16, 201113 yr Anyone know the odds for England to be knocked out by Germany? I'm sure you'd get decent odds at the moment. The odds could tumble following the draw.
November 23, 201113 yr After ending 2011 unbeaten England are now up to 5th in the World Rankings, for once I really do think it's hard to argue that shouldn't be our position. Granted we are a long way behind the top 3 and probably Uruguay too, but no one else is better than us.
November 23, 201113 yr Author Uraguay are as good as the top three teams. I really do think they will go all the way in the World Cup 2014. Can't believe Wales have fallen despite winning 4 of their last 5 games .. odd!
November 23, 201113 yr I think it's because they 'lost' their 2007 Euro 2008 qualifying draws with Republic of Ireland and Germany, which gave them much more points than a recent friendly victory over Norway, whereas Scotland who have overtaken them, their 2007 match lost was one loss to Italy.
February 23, 201213 yr Squad vs. Holland: Goalkeepers Robert Green (West Ham United), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Scott Carson (Bursapor) Defenders Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur) Midfielders Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), James Milner (Manchester City), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Ashley Young (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur), Theo Walcott (Arsenal) Forwards Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Fraizer Campbell (Sunderland) No Lescott, Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard.... Or Ox-C. Always likely Pearce was going to leave a few experienced ones out but Campbell only real surprise. Let's just hope he remembers to pick a goalkeeper. ;)
February 23, 201213 yr Author Why no Lescott? He's been good for Man City this season. Better than Gary Cahill. Baffaling. Our strike force is pathetic. Too many of the same types of strikers. Obviously Pearce is not picking players on form, or else Downing & Walcott would be nowhere near the squad!
February 23, 201213 yr Rooney can you please delete my thread ? Hadn't realised that the squad had already been posted The fact that there is only one goalkeeper playing in the PL is embarrasing Lescott should have been included. I don't think Smalling or Jones have ever even played at CB for England yet either Downing and Walcott shouldn't be anywhere near the squad based on current form, although I said this about Downing just before the Sweden game and he ended up being the stand out player. Oxlaide Chamberlain would have probably been chosen by most other managers except Pearce is more interested in his Under 21's qualifying for the next tournament Campbell chosen after a few good performances for Sunderland ? I would have had Carroll in just to offer a different option up front
February 23, 201213 yr Yes, there's no 'big man' upfront without Crouch, Zamora or Carroll which seems odd for an England squad. He put Lescott in with Lampard and Ferdinand, saying that neither he or anyone else would benefit from or learn anything from their inclusion. I can certainly understand that with Lampard and Ferdinand but it's not like Lescott is that experienced internationally and will he have played much, if at all, with any of the centre halves in the squad? The only other English keepers in the Premier League are Foster, Robinson and Ruddy I think? Two retirements and Ruddy isn't that good at all. Stockdale will be 4th. Pleasing to see Richards in it, shocking he only got 1 sub appearance in the whole of Capello's reign. Deleted the old thread, but copied the squad over. Pretty colours! :D
February 23, 201213 yr Haha at least my colours haven't gone to waste :D The final squad will be a 23 man squad right ? I'm guessing one of Richards Walker or Johnson and either a striker or a winger will be left out to make up the numbers in the Summer
February 24, 201213 yr I thought John Ruddy was Scottish until recently but since I found out he's English he's certainly more deserving to be in the squad than Green or Carson tbh. I really hope whoever the manager is begs Robinson to come back at least for the Euros as no one else is decent enough cover for Hart imo. I'll never understand how Downing keeps getting in the squad especially as 1. he can't cross and 2. there's no one who can cross to in the strikers! If we're gonna go for the 4-4-fookin'-2 type formation again then Adam Johnson and Ashley Young should be the wingers imo. Don't know if the Ox is ready yet but he's certainly played well but like I've said here before Walcott really needs to be moved to a central role as he's not a winger. I'd replace Campbell with Carroll (I rate him, he just doesn't suit Liverpool) though obviously we're trying to use alternative options here and if he picks up form maybe swap Welbeck for Defoe and those would possibly be my strikers for the Euros. I never thought I'd say this but Carrick has been class for us this season and I'd presume he's gonna come in now Cleverley wants to be the new Dean Ashton with getting injured everytime he gets a call-up. I think Psycho might try Cahill and Smalling for the defensive partnership for this game myself.
February 24, 201213 yr Author Stewart Pearce has other agendas though, he's left out a few players that could (and probably should) have been called up, but he's left them in the U21s, because they've a massive game coming up. I have no idea why Campell is in the squad. He's utterly average. Mind-boggling. I sidagree Nicky about Carroll. Two months ago I would have agreed, but I just thought he was utterly out of form and low on confidence. He's playing now like he was at Newcastle. He's changing his game. He's not ready for the England squad yet though.

Yep Pearce has already mentioned Oxlaide Chamberlain and that we can't expect to win Under 21 tournaments if we promote our best players to the Senior squad. I don't think he quite understands what his role is. Yes it'll be nice for the Under 21's to do well in a tournament, but why hold a player back for that reason ? I agree about Carroll too. A few months back I was ready for us to sell him/send him on loan, but he's improved massively in recent games and seems to be developing a good partnership with Suarez
