ANNIVERSARY POTENTIALS

Mimoza - Big Girls Cry

Ólafur Arnalds - re:member

Sonnfjord - Dust and Shapes

So I’ve succumbed to pressure of trying to pick between these three very different tracks for my 50th entry and I’ve decided to post potentials regardless of the severe lack of interest with past attempts. Also, I have quite a bit of time to pick, but I thought might as well pick some brains along the way, so please post your feelings, not that I’m needy or anything x

I've avoided listening to potentials that people post in threads as I like having as many songs as possible be new to me when I first listen to the semis buttt I'm gonna have to check out this Ólafur song at some point even if you don't send it. x

Well, without sound too presumptious when I first heard I thought it was gorg and also something you’d either send of like :)

omg YES YES YES @ Big Girls Cry! I’m gonna need to listen to the others for a proper ranking but you’ve got plenty of time (assuming BJFest is up next?)

I wouldn't send it personally as he's been sent before and I don't like recycling artists - I'd think it would have a fair chance of being vetoed anyway if it weren't for being a (potential) anniversary entry!

Have just caved and given it a listen anyway and it is rather wonderful indeed <3 this man can do no wrong. I wasn't aware he had new stuff out.

I know but I’ve been keeping these three back for a hot minute (for anniversary reasons), and I’m still no closer to a decision :D Glad you liked Mimoza anyway, it’s not usually my bag but that chorus tho.

Didn’t realise you kept a self-regulated no recycle rule :o I found this through YouTube, so I don’t know how much new stuff he’s got floating around.

Yeah I have avoided sending recycled artists since Roses Gabor in BJSC 51 (apart from a couple that had been in Unknown Pleasures, and Dawn Richard who had technically been sent as a member of Danity Kane but I made an exception for that because 'Tide: The Paradox Effect' sounded nothing like DK ) - just find it a lot more satisfying to send brand new names I guess ~ although I am planning to make another exception when I eventually get to my 100th entry #January2020Hype
It's a good thing I saw this thread on the homepage as I came across Olafur Arnalds' song the other day and had it in the back of my mind as a potential for a future contest as well  I would be more than happy with you sending it ofc. (oops giving it too much hype already).
're:member' is pure magic and I really like 'Dust and Shapes' too! 'Big Girls Cry' is not for me, but I guess it would find its audience.

Great minds and that x

Nice to have some ‘Dust and Shapes’ feedback! All three songs won’t get universally liked, but then does any song?

QUINTESSA CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY IN TENTH PLACE

So, picking Ólafur Arnaulds was both the obvious choice and the correct one as we finish with our third top 10 entry of the year :o, the last 50 contests we’ve participated in have been a blast and have commemorated it with a playlist below (featuring 44% qualifiers!)

Alas, our run of success this year will probably come to an abrupt halt as I’ve fallen in love with an entry that is both 8 minutes long, mostly instrumental and Korean bearing all the marks of a DNQ, but it’s f***ing amazing so i dinnae care. X

MIMOZA REPRESENT QUINTESSA

So I bareface lied and decided to enter Mimoza instead of the instrumental as to avoid two similiar entries back to back, this one feels more summery anywhoo, will this be the song to end my record Q streak (maybe) or drop me from the YTD#1 (most definitely). This is my first Kosovam artist to be entered. Will be entering instrumental next month, well it’s sort of instrumental #ROCK #LONGSONGSBLOC #INSTRUMENTAL #FOREIGNSONGS

MIMOZA DNQ, NARANJO REPRESENTS

After a record run for Quintessa in 2018, we got our first DNQ with Mimoza’s “Big Girls Cry” albeit only a couple points from qualifying. The Quintessa Selection Committee have decided to enter another Spanish song, despite the DNQs we’ve previously experienced in this language with Romeo Santos & Lali (who has been chosen to represented in the Masquerade spin-off). This song is rather different than either of those tho, as it’s weirder and yes more wonderful, it sounds to me like a Eurovision entry turned up to 11, whether this gets good feedback remains to be seen, as from what I gather nobody’s commented on it, despite it being a Spanish #1 at the end of the last decade.
