April 6, 201114 yr LOL yes, had a brain freeze! Ah. I looked up the lyrics of Loaded and I have heard it, I just didn't recognise it from its name.
April 6, 201114 yr Losing My Religion, One and Smells Like Teen Spirit are probably the most popular songs on the list, followed by Enter Sandman. you can hear them from commercial stations more "often" than ES. Depends on the country. Smells Like Teen Spirit would definitely be the most famous in America, but here? Not sure about that. I'd say Losing My Religion, One and Unfinished Sympathy at least would be more famous here. Thanks. That makes it a lot clearer. If you'd said that at the start, it would have saved us all this. Still very strange to see "Live And Let Die" by G'n'R being treated as a classic. Sweet Child O'Mine - of course. Mr Brownstone - possibly. Live & Let Die - a joke in comparison to the others on the list. Best wishes on getting some meaningful results. -- Richard I'd say November Rain off the same album (Use Your Illusion I) is more famous/classic, personally, but I shouldn't claim to know better than this all-knowing book :D
April 6, 201114 yr 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is still absolutely massive here, loads of airplay, loads of videoplay and adored by the teenage masses. If any of this list are more famous here, it's not by much.
April 6, 201114 yr One is DEFINITELY more famous than Smells Like Teen Spirit here, and I'd say by more than just a little bit personally. Definitely gets played more on radio (it's more radio-friendly, of course it will be), is frequently sung on things like The X Factor, was in the charts just a few years ago when Mary J. Blige covered it, etc. It's had way more exposure, and to a far greater audience, in the last decade or so than Smells Like Teen Spirit has. Admittedly the Unfinished Sympathy and Lose My Religion claims are far less defendable, but I still stand by the fact that Smells Like Teen Spirit is only (at most) the 2nd most well-known song on this list, if you did a Family Fortunes-style survey based on the 10 songs here from a British perspective. If you did it in America, then Smells Like Teen Spirit would probably walk it, though, that I will accept.

If any of those other three can be deemed a more 'classic' 'classic' than SLTS I would say it's Losing My Religion, not One. I wouldn't even say One is the most 'classic' of U2's songs, I'd give that honour to With Or Without You. At the end of the day it's at least partially down to opinion though :P That said, my opinion is arguably less valid than most others' as I wasn't actually alive when these songs were released Edited April 6, 201114 yr by Bray

April 6, 201114 yr I think Smells Like Teen Spirit is the most 'classic' in terms of cultural impact and influence on the music industry, but One is close behind- still receives loads of airplay to this day and Mary J Blige's recent cover (which is massively inferior imo) bought it to a modern audience- probably along with With or Without You, its U2's most classic song- plus, the lyrics are considered some of the best ever Edited April 6, 201114 yr by chart wizard
April 6, 201114 yr I know Live And Let Die isn't a classic but if I put November Rain it would look more out of place than LALD considering NR was released late in 92.
April 6, 201114 yr +03 Massive Attack 'Unfinished Sympathy' Havent heard from here on, this gets the most points due to the fact Massive Attack is a lyric from a Tinie Tempah song, Written in the Stars Please don't think I'm being rude but this saddens me.

April 7, 201114 yr That's a really good song, but I don't know if it's in the book. Though Snap! and Rage Against The Machine are really the only ideas I have for 92 so far
April 7, 201114 yr I dont want to start ruining the 1991 thread with 1992 suggestions so I'll email them to you.

April 7, 201114 yr That's a really good song, but I don't know if it's in the book. Though Snap! and Rage Against The Machine are really the only ideas I have for 92 so far Rhythm is a Dancer? I think it was very much of its time and has not aged well into a classic, quite the opposite! RATM I'll give you though, it was very popular on its release but has really really cemented itself as a favourite among future generations.. For this reason you'll really need to include Out of Space by The Prodigy. Still their biggest song at festivals and even with kids who weren't born when it came out - even more popular than Firestarter!
April 7, 201114 yr Outta Space just has to be in there. It has has stood up to much over playing on my part.
April 8, 201114 yr 10 Primal Scream - Loaded 09 KLF - 3am Eternal 08 R.E.M. - Losing My Religion 07 Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy 06 U2 - One 05 Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit 04 Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under The Bridge 03 Metallica - Enter Sandman 02 Guns N Roses - Live And Let Die -1 Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It? Judging Loaded on your opinion of Country Girl or Rocks is not really appropriate as they are very different songs. CG and Rocks are both heavily influenced by the Rolling Stones. Loaded isn't.
April 8, 201114 yr Judging Loaded on your opinion of Country Girl or Rocks is not really appropriate as they are very different songs. CG and Rocks are both heavily influenced by the Rolling Stones. Loaded isn't. But the original version was - 'I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have' - I'm not sure if Loaded was originally just supposed to be a Weatherall mix for a release of that as a single, and it was just so good that they renamed it and released it in its own right.
