Jamie's mother is saying in today's Sun that their secret identities should be lifted. She must know what would most likely happen to them. ;) They should have never ever been released. Should have gone to an adult jail at 18 and the keys thrown away.

With an attitude such as yours prevailing then Mary Bell would never have been released on license either, nor gone on to have a family of her own or become a productive member of society.... Only ONE of the Bulger killers has shown paedophilic tendencies (in the sense that he was downloading child porn as I understand it), that means that the other hasn't....

 

When you're talking about children, there is always the chance that they can come back from the edge (although some are more profoundly disturbed than others, which again isn't their fault, someone did that to them) and lead productive lives.

 

And now we move on to a legal matter which is relevant here.... A "Life Sentence" does actually mean you carry that for the rest of your life... The question is what the actual "Tariff" element is (Tariff being the prison term..), when a person on a life sentence is "released", it's not as in the slate is wiped clean, they are actually "released under licence" from the Parole board... This licence can basically be revoked at any time should the person commit another offence considered serious enough...

 

The Bulger case is always going to be a contentious one which will provoke a lot of emotions, but at the end of the day, murder's murder and one life shouldn't really be considered any more or less "important" than another....

Denise Bulger frankly needs to STFU and look towards herself... I mean, sorry, but if she'd been watching her child more closely and not left him outside a shop on his own in a busy shopping centre what transpired probably would never have happened... She bears a small part of the responsibility... Parents who dont live up to their responsibilities as parents are part of the problem as I see it.... After all, who is it that creates"monsters" like Venables and Thomson in the first place, abusive, neglectful parents in the vast majority of cases (look to the biography of just about ANY serial killer, you'll find an abusive childhood)....

I actually agree with you about her watching him better Scott. She admits in the Sun today that she gets hate mail and I guess some of it says what you've just said. She says the sympathy mail far outweighs the nasty letters though but still. I mean she was probably chatting in the butchers and not watching him properly. :( FFS a two-year old, cos that's all he was, shouldn't have been outside whilst his mother was inside. :angry:

I wouldn't go so far as to send her hate-mail, but, sorry, she does irritate me with her rather selective perspective of what actually happened... She goes on about how her marriage fell apart because of what happened to James, but I'm willing to bet that a major factor in the break-up was her neglect of her son on the day. Personally, if it was me, I'd find it VERY hard to live with someone who'd quite stupidly and thoughtlessly had such disregard for the safety of a child...

Funnily enough, rehabilitation periods don't stop people from becoming paedophiles. We have no idea what makes someone a paedophile. Secondly, so far as we know, the other offender, Robert Thompson, has done nothing against the law since his release. The very nature of the media means that we focus on the failures of rehabilitation without paying any attention to its successes - which, so far, Robert Thompson seems to be one of.

 

They don't get 'free holidays' off the taxpayer. The Mail says nothing on the holiday being state paid, and they'd be the first to seize on that kind of information!

Precisely.... Paedophilia is an aberrant sexual perversion, no one knows what the "cause" of it is.... But, as you say, to imply that the rehabilitation process is somehow the cause of it, is ridiculous... Chances are something was done to Venables at a very young age (we'll likely never know) which had the effect of making him a very disturbed person... Obviously, not all kids who are abused go on to become abusers (it's not as simple as that, the effects on many are that they internalise it rather than externalise it...), but a lot do, and there's no getting round that fact...

1. Learn to use emoticons properly

2. Who do think makes them the way they are? These were children, children are not born evil... even with adult serial killers, there is a set type (bullied loner at school, intelligent but working in a low-skill job etc - the Jeffrey Dahmer type) which many fit. They are adults who have had many more years to make their way around the world and be their own people and yet you can still predict their psychological state almost to a tee. Now you're talking about children - any child is a product of its genes and its upbringing. There's no paedophile/serial killer gene, so it's clear that something in these kids' short lives before they commited the crime has gone horribly wrong and there's only one place you can point the finger.

We discussed this issue in my R.E. class recently, the main issue being if they fully understood what they were doing. My R.E. teacher is under the opinion that they didn't, and they kidnapped him as a joke, and killed him when they couldn't get rid of him. I am not sure about this subject. There are too many factors.

Denise Fergus is a regular on a Radio show in Liverpool and it can be heart breaking listening to her. I guess it can bring back some traumatic memories when the newspapers continue to print junk about the killers giving them more publicity. I'm suprised Denise agreed to do an interview in the Sun newspaper.

 

I remember a few weeks ago some women rang the radio station saying that Denise should get over it and move on!!! It's easier for her to say that but how can a mother forget that her toddler was kidnapped and brutally murdered.

You need mental help if you think that it's alright to call CHILDREN, no matter what hideous crime they have commited, as "vile pieces of garbage". There was obviously something seriously wrong with tthese kids and they clearly weren't born like that, so the responsibility falls on the parents.
