April 8, 201114 yr Ill call them what I damn want thanks hun....I dont care whether they are 10 or 100, they were/are vile pieces of garbage. I knew what was right and wrong when I was 10 and Im sure these lads knew it was wrong to murder an innocent little boy.....I would have thought everyone knew that was wrong aged 6. You just want to place blame on everything but the actual criminals. And Im not saying their upbringing wouldnt have had an impact, it would have but other people grow up in vile atmoseperes and dont murder little boys. I just think they were horrible vile boys and I wish them hell. Had you had their upbringing you'd have a distinctly and significantly different view of what was right and wrong. It's very easy for people who have had a good upbringing to sit a say from their high horse that they knew at that age what was and wasn't right/wrong, but had you/they/I had a different upbringing that list of things that you/they/I think are right/wrong would look very different. Had someone grown up in a household where their father was abusive to their mother they may think it's ok to beat women, those brought up in a single parent household where the father/mother walked out could have abandonment issues or they could go on to be very successful people after being inspired by a single parents struggle to provide for their child/children [see Keisha Buchanan for example. Brought up by her mother and cites her as a big inspiration in her life] The way children are brought up has such a profound affect you really can't say that in the same set of circumstances you wouldn't have done the same thing. Yes it was a horrid crime, but that doesn't mean that the people that committed it haven't gone on to be important members of society. Thompson could go on to discover a cure for AIDs for all we know! I believe that everything happens for a reason, and being sent to prison for 10years could have saved Thompson and Venables lives. I wouldn't ever say that to Denise Fergus. However, it is true that she has allowed the dreadful murder of her son 18 years ago to ruin her life. She should have had whatever help she needed to return to some sort of normality. Of course she's never going to forget what happened - and nor should she - but it shouldn't have dominated her life in quite the way it has. If a sense of guilt for letting James (his parents never called him Jamie) out of her sight is part of the problem, she should have been given help to address that as well. Children wander off very frequently. Almost every time that happens they are found again within minutes. Cases like this are exceedingly rare. After all, the average number of children killed by a stranger each year is just six. Wow, was it really 18years ago? It's in the press so often you'd think it happened last week. Baby P is clearly Nu James Bulger. I can't believe I was only 3 when it happened. I remember the news stories on the TV. And Denise has let the guilt and anger consumer her over the past 18years. While i'm not going to say she should get over it, she clearly needs some form of psychological help as there is a bigger issue there that needs to be resolved to help her to start living her life again. So did I - but that's because I had parents who taught me right from wrong. Venables and Thompson's parents were pretty irresponsible and neglectful, their home lives were completely dysfunctional, and they both have siblings who abused them in the way they did to James Bulger (in their minds, it was just something you did to kids younger than you). It's a tragic symptom of a broken society, but it doesn't make them intrinsically evil. THIS.

I agree with this. Those emotions only hurt you.
