Uni breaks up on the 21st, I think for 3 weeks ^_^

And it's 'reading week' next week (A glorified Half Term) so I have a whole week and a half of lie-ins! :yahoo:

Lucky you. :D

I have five hours worth of dull lessons. :( Even worse tomorrow I have science modular tests and then double science later. :(

I have a lecture, then an hour of shorthand, then an hour-long seminar afterwards (A seminar is basically where everything in the lecture gets re-told and you get handouts, etc). Then I have 3 hours of nowt, then another shorthand session from 3-4, then that's me done for the day.

So our days more or less work out the same, when you consider that you probs get about an hour for lunch and break times etc... we're both so badly done to

Yep -_-

I did also apply for Teesside and ScumCastle, but Scumcastle got all snobby on me and refused me entry because I'm from Sunderland "I did not meet grade requirements", and the journalism course at Teesside was the wrong one, so I had to cancel the offer... shame, as well because they accepted my offer before I even got the grades

And I would've been with my mate :(

I like Sunderland uni, but I can't say the journalism course is as good as I expected it to be.. might get better over the next year

And chances are if you're going in for a journalism course, you'll be required to learn shorthand (or $h!thand as I like to call it). It's basically scribbles on a page that allow you to accurately write down what people are saying really really quickly. 95% of editors these days will only employ journalists who can write 100 words per minute, but it's only 80 for magazine journalists

I'm a reasonably fast writer myself, but believe it or not, it doesn't really help if you can't remember the outlines and everything.

You need to learn to be able to write this:

...at 100 wpm

I'm struggling to get past 50

It's awful :P

Learning the shorthand alphabet's a piece of p***, but it's when you start learning word groupings and special outlines that it starts to get annoying. They have all these stupid little rules for each thing, but then they're inconsistent so you can swap the letters round when they're followed by a certain outline, but when there's a specific letter in there you're not allowed to... it's pointless. We're in the 21st Century, we have dictaphones and minidisc recorders to record people's speech

Oh, and the lecturer who teaches shorthand is a she-male
