So 'The Crow' has been given the green light to be remade! The film, which starred (and sadly, killed) Brandon Lee, is very iconic and I personally think it's going to be a brave move, but ultimately a mess and I honestly don't see why they feel they have to touch it in all honesty.

'The Hangover' & 'Limitless' star, Bradley Cooper has supposedly been approached to play the lead role and '28 Weeks Later' director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is also on board!

The Crow remake has finally landed itself a director in the shape of 28 Weeks Later filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

Originally being set up as a directing vehicle for Blade’s Stephen Norrington, The Crow reboot was left floundering last October when Norrington unexpectedly departed the production.

Executive producer Tucker Tooley is sure that Fresnadillo is the right guy for the job, though.

“Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is an incredibly talented and imaginative filmmaker,” he says, “We are thrilled to have him at the helm and are excited to work with both Pressman and Apaches on what we all believe will be a compelling and innovative reimagining of The Crow.”

Adds producer Edward R. Pressman: “The original Crow was groundbreaking cinema. Its gothic visual and musical ideas influenced a generation and cinema itself.

"With Juan Carlos, we have every confidence that his new Crow will have a similar impact on the contemporary audience.”

Based on the 1989 comic book miniseries by James O’Barr, The Crow was originally turned into a 1994 film starring Brandon Lee, who tragically died on set after a mix-up with firearms.

This reboot will apparently keep the focus on the character of Eric Draven, who comes back to life (with the help of a crow) after he and his fiancée are murdered.

The Crow reboot will head into production this autumn

As soon as he’s over his next Hangover, Bradley Cooper may be taking the lead in a remake of The Crow.

A source close to the production confirms the actor is in negotiations to star in the film, which will be released by Relativity Media. Mark Wahlberg was previously in talks for the part of the murdered man who comes back as an avenging angel, but that eventually fell through.

Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Days Later, Intacto) signed on to the project last week, and Relativity and producing partner Apaches Entertainment are aiming to start production this fall.

The 1994 cult-hit, directed by Alex Proyas (who went on to helm Dark City and I, Robot), was notable for introducing a brooding, gothic, white-faced hero who was in stark contrast to other colorfully costumed superheroes populating pop culture. It was adapted from the 1980s comic books by James O’Barr, which was a way for O’Barr to unleash his grief over the death of his fiance, killed in the late 1970s by a drunk driver.

In the comics, a young man named Eric Draven and his girlfriend are assaulted, and he his shot, while she is raped and murdered. He believes he is resurrected to exact vengeance on the killers. The comics inspired four movies and a TV series. On the original film, star Brandon Lee died when a prop gun misfired.

this just made me spit out my drink. in anger.
The Crow is a Classic movie on its own, Bradley Cooper is nothing like Brandon Lee.

You know a classic film can be remade into something equally as good. See True Grit.

Who said he has to be? If it's retelling I doubt they'll stick so closely to the original and Bradley Cooper wouldn't have a chance to put his own stamp on it if he was anything like Brandon Lee.

Hmmm, well, maybe they could do a "Batman-style" re-boot.... Christ knows it needs one after the uniformly DIRE sequels...

the sequels should be ingnored. if they were to remake it, it should be remade by the person whi made the $h!tstain that is 28 weeks later.

i challenge them to make a soundtrack anywhere near as good as the original soundtrack.

I think Cillian Murphy or Jonathan Rhys Meyers would be good as Brandon Lee's character.

Did Heath Ledger base his Joker character on the Crow? He would have been good :(

Has Jonathan Rhys Meyers ever been good in anything? He's without doubt one of the most wooden actors working today.

I'm sure Nine Inch Nails will probably do it, seeing as it's the only thing they do nowadays. Ah I wish they could go back to doing covers again, their one of Johnny Cash's Hurt is pretty good!
