Posted April 20, 201114 yr Has anyone been watching this since Neil Dudgeon took over? I have to say ... it's really not too bad. Certainly a lot darker than previous Midsomer's. Tonight's was particulary gruesome - but heightened by some fabulously funny guest performances from Kacey Ainsworth (EE) and Lee Boardman (Coronation Street). Kath
April 21, 201114 yr Neil Dudgeon delivers his lines more clearly, can deliver comedy well and you get the impression John Barnaby is actually intelligent-vast improvement over Nettles. That and he puts whiny Jones in his place. However, despite liking the first two episodes I wasn't impressed with last night. Murderer revealed for too early, no real closure on the girl who was being strangled and no returning to the other characters. What exactly was the ex-registrar's secret? We don't know. They didn't work it out, they caught the culprit in the act. Very good acting but the script was p*** poor.

When the reveal came it was only about 9.40 - so it had 20 minutes to go and we knew who did it! I also think it would have been better if we'd found out that his 'betrothed' was never in South Africa - but he'd murdered her after she'd spurned him. Don't you just love his dog though? We're certain its the same dog in that commercial (you know - the one where its in the dog-pound and has made a video of all the things it can do). Kath

Kath Replacing Cully with a dog could only be an improvement and its certainly one of the best parts. This Barnaby has a character and characteristics (like talking to his dog) instead of just flitting over to the next Midsomer garden party with his wifer anticipating murders. Last nights resolution was dodgy but as a whole the show seems to have improved a lot.

Kath It definitely is the same dog from the Thinkbox Harvey advert.

Kath My parents had a huge debate about that dog  She thought it was the same dog, he didn't. I think my Mum won because my Dad slept in the living room  I was never keen on this show before, but tuned in and enjoyed it.
