Since U Been Gone is great, the other two are decent. :kink:

PTB is great, the other two are decent.

Hey, someone should say that! I still hope PTB will make the top-3 with 'Feel Good Etc.' and something else. Unfortunately, my third favourite, Arctic Monkeys, seems to be going in a round or two, and the fourth favourite, Mylo, gets a lot of votes since the round 10 or so.

Oh, and we already have a male in the final: Gnarls Barkley.

It seems to be that earlier year we have - more diverse our top-10 is. I think it's because everyone is rooting for the current female songs but most of them don't age well. For example, I think Pon De Replay would go top-3 if 2005 was the last year.

My rank of the current top-9:

1. Push the Button (VERY predictable from me but hey ho :P )

2. Feel Good Inc

3. I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

4. Doctor Pressure

5. Dare

6. Dakota

7. Hung Up

8. Since You've Been Gone

9. I Like the Way You Move.

Because the main part of the song is sung by Rosie Thomas....

Her vocals were blended with Damons. So with his and Shauns vocals I would still says its more male vocals than females on the song

I think we can class Dare as a combination of both- so technically that counts as a male and a female vocal  so 7 males and 4 females- I think Arrs is right in that the older the years get, the more sensible the results are and not filled with females- be interesting to see a poll like this in 2009 in say, 2017

I wouldn't say so. She's singing on over half of the song, and when there's more than one voice hers is always the lead, with Damon's vocal being treated as a backing vocal.

Also, is 'Doctor Pressure' really considered male? Again, the main vocal is female.

True but then there is Shaun Ryders vocal.

I def consider Doctor Pressure a mainly female vocal

I don't think this year is particularly amazing tbh with regards to females getting voted out early. All the ones voted out early were RnB ballads, the same which happened in other years. Just other years had more female songs that weren't RnB ballads (or very urban like Get Right, Don't Cha, even Pon de Replay).

Shaun Ryder would count as a featured artist, so doesn't count towards the song's "gender".

And Doctor Pressure is a point. That should also be female.

I definitely wouldn't call it female, it's clearly both. It definitely shouldn't fall into the 6 male category though, it's obviously 4 of each and 1 with both.

I agree with this. There are way more female urban songs in these years than there were in 2007-2009 because that was the general flavour of pop music at the time, and urban music is simply NOT mass-liked here. Unsurprisingly most of the female out-and-out pop songs still remain, it's just that weren't that many of them this year. Just like in 2004 Britney Spears will probably win with Toxic, and These Words will also do well, while the likes of Kelis will probably do averagely (unfortunately).

I'd also say that we're getting to the point where many of the females are of a different generation. The likes of Mariah and Jennifer are reasonably liked on this site but at the same time they're nowhere near as liked as Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, etc, because they generally had their peak years before many voters on this site started following music, which probably has some impact. That affect is even more present on their older songs, like the ones we're getting to in this poll. Britney seems to cross across the two generations better, but even pre-Toxic her songs aren't as loved, going by that rank thing somebody did in the Britney forum not long ago (which is SHAMEFUL, by the way, as Stronger is the best song she's ever done and likely ever will do).

I partly agree with you too, as maybe there aren't many likable female pop songs in the list from the beginning. And indeed, we still have Madge, Sugas and KC here. At the same time, I think all the stayed songs (bar I Like the Way You Move and Since U Been Gone) are brilliant and should be in the top-10 regardless.

I'm interested to see who will win 2000 though. Pure Shores maybe? I think that did win some kind of poll of that year on this site before. Oops! I Did It Again definitely won't win for the reason I stated above, even though it's great IMO. I actually think there could be a shock and someone like Eminem could win, as Stan is reasonably viewed favourably by most people and there isn't much strong competition. Or maybe something like Groovejet (Spiller).

2001 and 2002 could also be interesting, but at the same time I see obvious winners in Kylie and Sugababes. If those fall then I'd be intrigued though

^ I definitely think Pure Shoes is a huge contender for 2000 (deservedly so, imo).

I'm not sure about Stan. I could actually see if winning out-right if we did a simple "What's your favourite song?" poll from 2000's top 40, but knocking the least favourite out each round, I can see Stan going sometime. There's bound to be some people annoyed at how overrated it is, plus, both artists on the song seem to have their share of haters on here.

I'm interested to see how the likes of S Club 7, Steps, etc. do too (if they ever made it in the top 40, but I'm sure they must've done ).

4 Sclub 7 and 1 Steps songs made it

Reach FTW in 2000! :cheer: Dated indeed (like most early 00s pop) but anybody who was between the ages of 6-13 at the time and doesn't get nostalgic blasts to summer 2000 from this song was clearly a STRANGE CHILD.

But seriously, I think Reach and Never Had a Dream Come True will both get past halfway in 2000 but not much further. In 2001, Don't Stop Movin' will probably reach the top 10 and Have You Ever will probably pass the halfway mark but not much further also.

The Steps song in 2001 is Chain Reaction, which is an atrocious cover, and deserves to do crap. And probably will.

I'm going to predict the top 10 in 2000 will be:

All Saints - Pure Shores

Sonique - It Feels So Good

Eminem featuring Dido - Stan

Spiller - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady

Melanie C - Never Be The Same Again

Madonna - Music

Destiny's Child - Independent Women

Darude - Sandstorm

Melanie C - I Turn To You

 Seriously, I have no idea. There's LOADS of dance music in 2000 that I have no idea how it will do. It's not like the urban music (which is almost non-existent in 2000) which you can easily predict where it will go out.

I realise my logic was extremely flawed but I was referring to the gender of the actual artist. Mylo and Gorillaz are very clearly male.

Even so, I wouldn't consider Dare female. Maybe mixed but not female.
