Is it? Most people voting in this game seem to have a very varied taste to me...

Problem with Steps and S Club 7? They're both dated as hell! I like them (I have the Greatest Hits of both) but I've never had any room for them in my votes purely because their songs sound so tacky nowadays. Pop music that does well in these games is stuff like Madonna, Natalie Imbruglia, etc. which doesn't sound so "of its time".

Yeah I agree, generally dance music doesn't fair badly either (might have a bit to do with my voting!). But yeah, the pop music of the later years like Steps S Club 7 was toe curling at the time, so it now sounds twice as bad and it's very rare you hear any of their stuff these days for this simple reason.

All this George Michael hate, Spinning The Wheel is one of the few songs of his that I can stand.

I heard it the other day, and I found it really boring and repetitive :( plus five minutes in length is too long!

I suppose S Club 7 were aimed at a slightly higher age group - more like 11/12 than 8/9 or something, so were perhaps slightly easier to like for most people. To be fair, Don't Stop Movin' is a pretty respectable pop song, and stuff like Have You Ever and Never Had A Dream Come True are good pop ballads. I guess in the 00s Number Two Rate that is apparently coming next, S Club 7 might do a bit better.

S Club Party was indeed crap though, even if it reminds me of trying to jump off the sofa/bed and do the S in mid-air like they did in the video  Plus they definitely had more personality than Steps, although I suppose the fact kids at the time could follow them through their own TV show helped that in a way.

I actually find it very odd listening to Steps now. Their music was so cold and hollow (in comparison to S Club 7's, at least). Kind of bizarre that it was aimed at kids as it really had no "fun" or charm in it. I suppose all their songs were ridiculously simple and about half of them had the same cheap dance beat but that only makes them sound even more empty nowadays. I find them borderline comical looking back, but I still have some appreciation for certain songs like One For Sorrow, Heartbeat... er, that's about it, I think.

I'm not sure there was a point to this post. I guess I was trying to say that S Club 7 were indeed better but I still like Steps in a bizarre way  There's been nothing quite like them since, and all the ones that have tried have all crashed and burned (see: Pop!).

Methinks you're forgetting the chorus to Judas.

well, thats my thoughts as well- they had some songs I liked (I even didn't mind their cover of Tragedy) but only in a guilty pleasure kind of way. They were kind of just a 'fun' act, almost novelty and looking back, at the cheesy dance moves and covers, they were a bit of a joke, so I can see why people wouldn't vote for them (or even listen to them) nowadays. S Club were above them imo as they did have a few good pop songs like Don't Stop Moving (Reach is cheesy as hell, but I love it  )
