Only three non-urban videos in the T20.

Makes you wonder why they bother having specific urban-genre channels, when they just leak out onto most of the others anyway. ;)

Even by your classification standards it's bizarre to claim 'Good Girl' and 'Don't Hold Your Breath' are urban in any way

Perhaps so, but the urban channels seem to include them in their T20's nonetheless...

Well, if it makes you feel any better, there's a grand total of 0 rap songs in the radio top 20.

The highest is Champion at #25.

In terms of lead credit, you're right - but #1 ft BoB & #12 ft Tinie. Also, #10 ft Travie McCoy, though not acknowledged in the original post.

Of course, with airplay, radio 2 always has a strong influence, and they are pretty much a no-rap station...

And Heart too, which is the biggest non-BBC radio station in the country (unfortunately).

I didn't include Price Tag, Eyes Wide Shut and Higher because they all have no-rap edits, which Smooth, Heart, Radio 2, etc. play. Champion is the highest song which has to have rapping in.

Though I think we're drifting from the point here, which was TV plays, not radio - and videos rarely have alternative edits, 'Higher' being an exception.

Yeah. I can't think of many. Both Higher by Taio Cruz and The Saturdays had different video edits I think. Also Bright Lights, Bigger City. E.T. kind of does. It has both the rap verses and the bridge in it, so you could cut out the appropriate parts of the video and end up with the single version or the album version, depending on what you want. I can't think of any others though.

I think though, since it'd be mainly teenagers watching MTV, the music channels are aware that their viewers will be wanting to see videos by Akon, 50 Cent, etc. rather than videos by Take That and Rumer, for example. An MTV channel playing music similar to what Radio 2 plays probably wouldn't get very many people watching it.

Perhaps so, but the urban channels seem to include them in their T20's nonetheless...

If you detest "urban" music so much, then why are you watching the channels which specifically play that genre of music...?

Don't be so stupid. Not all of those songs are 'urban'. Why don't you just accept that those songs are the songs people like, not just because of their genre, but because they are good songs? They are not exactly going to not play 'OTF', one of the most popular songs of the year and a #1, on channels such as 4music because vidcappers thinks it is too 'urban', they are going to play what is popular, not ruling songs out because of their genre. Plus, most of those songs are far more 'pop' and 'R&B' anyway.. sometimes I think you like just saying the word 'urban'.

Short of blocking them completely, I'll always see them, however briefly, even when channel-hopping.

Perhaps, but it's something of a chicken & egg situation - they can't be sure that no-one would watch such a channel, unless one existed... :P

Hey, the one thing I DON'T do is make personal attacks!

Are my smileys invisible?

The last time I made such a post, someone suggested I use the winking smiley in future - so I did, for all the use that was...

In any case, for once I wasn't even criticising urban music, just passing an ironic comment.

True. Maybe one has existed/does exist. I don't personally know of any, but I only get two MTV channels on my TV, whilst there's dozens of others out there which I don't know anything about.
