Now that VEVO has officially launched in the UK, I hope it's okay to post the VEVO Chart in the UK Chart Forum.

Wall Street Journal

"The old model cheapened the value of music videos," says Vevo President and Chief Executive Rio Caraeff. "We want to restore the premium lustre."

Money is trickling back to the labels: A label whose videos rack up 10 million streams on Vevo could collect around $70,000.

100 million views = $700,000 check from VEVO to the label.

Youtube only pays about $300,000 per 100 million views for its Partner, although most Youtube Partners are not as professional or high quality as VEVO.

In order to earns $1 million, you need 143 million VEVO views. And according to VEVO, 50% of ad revenue goes to publishers and artists. Publishers usually take the standard 10%.

So far, this seems to be true: according to Caraeff, advertisers have been willing to pay between $25 and $40 per thousand views (CPM, in advertising parlance) for Vevo-provided videos, compared with average market rates of $3 to $8. Caraeff claimed that artists and publishers will get about 50 percent of all revenues from these ads--a much higher percentage than they earn from recordings. This is why Mariah Carey and U2 were so excited about the launch.

According to Caraeff, Vevo is currently seeing tens of million in revenue, through sponsorships and advertising, with more than 50% of that revenue going back to the labels and artists. Attempting to “restore the luster of video advertising,” Vevo’s advertising rate is comparable to broadcast, with CPMs north of $20.

Youtube Partner: $300,000 per 100 million views (compare to $700,000 for VEVO)

But we can pause right here to let you know how Homayoon is making his money ($70,000 since 2008) and why.

As of Friday morning, Rob's World had 24.9 million uploads.

"When I first started, I got $100," he said, "and I thought, 'I can pay for my gas with this. I can go out to dinner.' Then it went up to $400 or $600 and eventually, I started into $1,000, then $2,000

"One of my checks broke five figures," he said. "That was in December, four months ago.

$70,000 / 23 million views = $30,435 per 10 million views (on the assumption that his first 1.9 million views are from before he joined the Partner Program)

100 million views = $700,000

That mean JustinBieberVEVO bring in about $700,000 every 26 days or so.

I love how all the Justin Bieber haters who view his videos to dislike them are basically making him really rich!!

I am sooo tempted to hack it down... :teresa: still it won't be the first time this happens I am pretty sure! A lot must have done it already.

I would assume so. I could imagine some Gaga stans hacking it so she can be the #1.

I find Vevo very irritating, because videos almost invariably start with unskippable adverts!

Same thing with Rebecca Black. The haters are making her RICH. Though she is only a Youtube Partner ($30,000 per 10 mil views not $70,000). She is not part of VEVO.

If it was VEVO, it would have been $931,000 check from VEVO. Though VEVO probably don't want to be associated with her.

Just curious, for those in the UK or Canada, when you go to the main video page http://www.vevo.com/videos,

is the display different from the American VEVO?

The vevo.com/videos at this very moment here in the States:

http://www2.picturepush.com/photo/a/5622905/640/5622905.jpg

I wanted to figure if they do this country-specific or is it going to be the same world-wide? VEVO says it's expanding to Europe first and then Brazil, Australia, Asia later this year.

If it's country-specific, then the ranking as shown above would be different in the UK compare to the US due to different number of views.

And The Way I Are at #40?! :o Wasn't that released quite a bit before VEVO started taking off?! :o Quite impressive, if so. I do watch that video a lot though. :D

It's funny to see What's My Name? at #10, because the other day I was thinking about how few views it has, but I guess I've been over-estimating the views the videos are getting.

And the UK VEVO looks the same as the US one.

Thanks for the reply.

I wonder what VEVO will look like in countries where English is not spoken (France, Germany, Japan, Brazil, South Korea etc...)
