May 10, 201114 yr Shocked! Can't believe Norway didn't make it, that must have been the jury's fault. Turkey and Armenia I can live without, but I am surprised they didn't get through. Very surprised Switzerland managed it, I have a feeling they were favoured by the juries thus taking out Norway. Even though I didn't think they'd make it, I can see why Lithuania and Serbia made it through. Iceland last to be announced for the third, maybe even fourth year running  . Very glad they're through though and Georgia were immense tonight! I was very worried for Hungary during the voting, but thank god they got through. As far as my predictions went, 7/10 which is the usual mark I get  . In terms of who I wanted through, 5/10, although I preferred Iceland to a lot of my pre-semi favourites tonight so 6/10 which ain't bad I guess. Massive shame about Norway though.
May 10, 201114 yr Haba Haba may have suffered from going on second, i.e. the death slot - I do hope it doesn't have the same effect on Nadine Belier on Thursday...it's never been an absolute favourite of mine and I can't say that I care overmuch about it missing out, although it is a massive shock. I'm so glad and shocked for Switzerland, Iceland and Lithuania, seriously - they all put in unexpectedly great performances! And I'm ridiculously shocked/pleased at Turkey failing, finally this is becoming more of a song contest and less of a diaspora contest, that was their weakest entry in years and deserved to fail, likewise Armenia. The death slot is easily overcome in semis. The problem was that Haba Haba didn't have that punchy or effective a performance - whereas huge vocal performances (I'm thinking Israel 2008) have easily made it out of the semis from 2nd. I'm SO SO HAPPY that Armenia and Turkey didn't make it! :D
May 10, 201114 yr ...and finally, here's where the semi final 1 qualifiers were ranked in my original rate: Great Kati Wolf - What About My Dreams? (Hungary) Ell & Nikki - Running Scared (Azerbaijan) Good Alex Sparrow - Get You (Russia) Paradise Oskar - Da Da Dam (Finland) <--- :drama: Ok Nina - Caroban (Serbia) Anna Rossinelli - In Love For A While (Switzerland) Evelina Sašenko - C'est Ma Vie (Lithuania) Average Sigurjón's Friends - Aftur Heim (Iceland) Eldrine - One More Day (Georgia) Crap Loukas Giorkas & Stereo Mike - Watch My Dance (Greece) Oh well, it's all about Hungary and Azerbaijan tonight. Congratulations to these two countries ONLY.
May 10, 201114 yr Eight out of the ten I thought would qualify did. I thought Norway and Turkey would qualify and didn't reckon on Georgia and Greece. Georgia I can understand but Greece I stopped listening to after the first minute because it sounded dire. I knew Azerbaijan and Hungary were strong but was surprised with the strong performances shown by Lithuania and Finland in particular as well as Iceland, Serbia and Switzerland - all made the most of their songs - whilst Norway wasn't as good as expected I must concede. All in all fair results I think and maybe I missed something in the Greek song...maybe.
May 10, 201114 yr One of my big favourites didn't make it, but thankfully Hungary, Russia and Azerbaijan did: and that's all that matters. ECSTATIC that Switzerland made it through though! Overall a pretty good set of qualifiers: A little bizarre that Switzerland have sent brilliant so underrated tracks that have DNQ'd for the last few years, this year they send a song that was greeted with a general MEH response by just about everyone and they finally get through  They're lucky that it's one of this year's biggest growers.
May 10, 201114 yr Gutted for Norway and Albania. :( Did not see Norway failing to qualify at all, I had it as one of the shoe ins. :o Another shocker that Armenia and Turkey failed to qualify. Completely deserved though imo. If only Greece and Russia had sunk with them. Guess you can't have it every way. I said earlier that Poland was growing on me, well I take that back. The polish performance was so underwhelming. Finland took Polands spot for me in my top ten. After all the songs had been performed these were the songs I wanted to qualify: Serbia (Best performance of the night ) Georgia Switzerland (So pleased it got through, such a lovely song) Norway Azerbaijan Finland San Marino (So nice and I could feel how much she was enjoying it, massive shame) Albania (Performance was a bit disappointing, add a bad slot and everything goes to pot) Hungary Croatia (Easily the easiest song to dance to tonight, shame it missed out. Pulled out the magic tricks and everything!) [Poland OR Lithuania] Overall I had 12 songs I'd have been happy to see go through. (Poland & Lithuania added on) 7/12 is pretty good. (or 6/10) How Greece got through is anybodies guess, you can't really say it's bloc voting either because obviously Armenia and Turkey were lacking in that department tonight. I'm SO SO HAPPY that Armenia and Turkey didn't make it! :D Finally rewarded for their incompetence :cheer: Nobody is safe anymore, it's partially restored my faith actually. I still think that Russia and maybe Greece could get away with sending just about anything but I don't think anyone else will be able to from now on...we should definitely see a far stronger show from both Armenia and Turkey next year as a result! The great thing is, you just know that diaspora would have taken those countries into the top ten in the final if they'd qualified, and now they won't have a chance to get there and two countries that actually deserve it will have a chance instead :D
May 10, 201114 yr I've only heard the songs through the recaps, Norway did seem like the best one! :( How did that miss out? Georgia and Greece were pretty crap.
May 10, 201114 yr Shocked about Turkey! Gutted for Norway, she was poor live, but the song i liked! :arrr:
