This is an 80s number ones rate using every song that hit number 1 in the 1980s. What will happen is there will be 10 rounds, the first being 1980, then 1981 etc. up to round 10 which will be 1989. The top 4 from each round will go straight to the final, and 5th to 7th placed will go in a "wildcard" round.

The top ten songs from the "wildcard" round will be put into the final round to make a top 50 of the decade. After the final the next rate will be 00s number 2s

How you rate the songs; exactly the same as last time, you do not rate every song that hit number one, you just rate your ten favourites and your least favourite. You give +15 points to your favourite song, and the rest are as follows; This is to hopefully stop ties from happening inside the top 3.

+15 Favourite Song

+12 2nd Favourite Song

+10 3rd Favourite Song

+08 4th Favourite

+06 5th Favourite

+05 6th Favourite

+04 7th Favourite

+03 8th Favourite

+02 9th Favourite

+01 10th Favourite

-02 Least Favourite, or Most Hated depending on what way you look at it

These are the songs you need to rate from. You have 2 days for every round to rate. This means the deadline is Thursday morning and hopefully round 5 (1984) will be up by then.

Overall 83 is a MASSIVE improvement on the early 80s (but that might just be my age!)

Agh, no Bucks Fizz in the final or wildcard - boo. Good to see Renee and Renato finish on a positive score. Surprised the Goombay Dance Band didn't get a bigger panning too! Hmm, 83 had some brilliant pop records, but they didn't tend to hit the top spot...gonna have to get the cheesy hat on.

+15 David Bowie “Let’s Dance”

This actually ended up being harder than I thought as they are all much of a muchness. Perhaps suffering from 'overplay' over the years.

+15 Kajagoogoo “Too Shy” The only one of these I still truly love. If I have to think of an archetype 80's number one, this is it.

+12 Paul Young “Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home)”

Noo!! As if Bucks Fizz missed out by a mere six points to Irene bloody Cara! I hate that song. Seething, just seething. However, it's great to see Culture Club go direct to the final - didn't expect that :o The Jam topped the group by miles, and Dexy's could only make do with 3rd! Hmm.

I agree with The Moose, this is such an overplayed list of songs  I'd be surprised if anybody didn't know 90% of this list. In a way that's a good thing as they've stood the test of time, I guess, but it's definitely a bit overfamiliar. I didn't even need to refresh my memory of most of these before voting like I've done in every other round so far - although I do have most of these songs on Now That's What I Call Music! Volume 1, mind.

Vastly inferior to 80 and 81 (Can't believe I missed the 1981 rate!)
