Yeah Smash looks pretty wet. Although reviews are unanimously good and I at least think Debra Messing will make it worth trying. Katharine McPhee's character looks like a bit of a drain from the trailers and I imagine the songs will be a bore.

'Smash' is going to be massive, isn't it? I have a feeling the Emmy's are going to be all over it too. BUT IT LOOKS PANTS TBH.

I hope so, I do miss seeing Debra on my TV screen. Will & Grace is one of my all time favourite shows.

I think that the concept is good and there is some really good potential there, it looks like being the show that Glee really should have been (but for adults)

Smash is exactly the type of show I love to watch. Being a Musical Theatre student. :kink: Plus, Bernadette Peters is going to guest star as Megan Hilty's mother, and they are two of my favourite Broadway stars. I think I just weed a little.
With all this talk I'm going to need to check out 'Homeland' at some point this week. It doesn't sound like my sort of thing at all but neither did The Good Wife.

Pan Am starts on BBC2 on Wednesday at 9pm with a double bill. I don't watch the channel so I have no idea what the promo is like but there is a one or two page spread about it in todays The Sun.

It's being taken really seriously, there have been quite a few adverts for it on the BBC, there was a documentary about it on at the weekend and it's on the cover of this weeks Radio Times.

It could premiere well for BBC2 then, and if it holds up it'll be a shame that it's looking like 13 episodes and out in the US.

I am really looking forward to 'Smash', which I'm fully expecting to be a ratings smash and get some critical acclaim, but I'm not convinced about the songs as I'm not a massive broadway fan. That's one of the reasons I like Glee, because of how they do chart hits, and Smash does look more grown up.

I'm surprised they aren't premiereing Awake earlier but I guess it depends on how many episodes they've ordered and it could still be used to fill a slot that fails. It's alright giving it lots of promo during the Superbowl, but if they then give viewers a couple of months to forget about the show..

CBS have announced some changes, '¡ROB!' to take the Thursday 8:30 slot from January 12th with ROE returning later in the season. 'Undercover Boss' to Sunday 8pm from January 15th with The Amazing Race S20 likely starting in late February like it did this year.

I can't believe they're going with the name ¡ROB! That's seriously dire. They've actually cut Rules of Engagement's episode order from 18 to 13 to accommodate that despite the fact that Rules is a hit (regular 3.5+ in 18-49). Madness.

¡Jark es una puta!

I'm so gonna cry if this gets cancelled, I seriously love all the characters and it's just so classy.

When will it be announced if the show gets a full season or not ?

1 11.06

2 7.76

3 6.38

4 5.84

5 5.68

6 5.46

7 5.17

8 5.69

The ratings are holding well after the initial tumble, but I guess it might not be enough. What should it get to be safe ?

That's the viewing figures which mean absolutely nothing at all. The decision to renew or cancel a show depends on the Adults 18-49 ratings which Pan Am is doing laughably in. It's the 18-49's that dictate how much you can charge for an ad, which is a big big big source of revenue (and probably the most important) for the TV channels.

Yeah just to put that into more digestible terms for Bert (and anybody else), the total figures (11.06 million, 5.69m etc.) are measured but they don't really count for much because what networks want to know is how many people in the 18-49 age group are watching (and the more that watch, the more advertisers pay the network to show their ads). Pan Am has typically been getting a 1.8 rating in adult 18-49s which means 1.8% of the total population in that age group are watching the show... for a show to be a success (on ABC) it needs to be getting at least 2.2 or a 2.3, preferably more... on other networks like FOX or CBS it would be needing a 2.5 or above to be a minor success. So really Pan Am is screwed and it would take a minor miracle to get a full season order.

Full seasons for other ABC shows have been announced so we assume Pan Am won't be getting one. This will probably be confirmed in the next couple of weeks as the networks are now announcing the mid-season schedules, which Pan Am likely won't appear on ('GCB' is billed as being similar to Desperate Housewives so I expect that might take the slot).

As for ROE, I know the retention out of TBBT could be better but I think CBS should just be happy with how it's doing, NBC would kill for those numbers right now, even Fox & ABC would be really happy with that. To think it was originally scheduled for Saturday and now it could potentially get another season (with a name like '¡ROB!', I'm not expecting that to be a hit).

Surely this 'Rob' atrocity will flop harder than 'How To Be A Gentleman'

Bad news for 'Community' fans today, looks like it *could* all be over :o. '30 Rock' might get slaughtered Thursdays @ 8 though :( hopefully it'll boost 'Parks' though. I seriously cannot fathom why NBC are opting for a fashion show which will almost obviously flop instead of ordering 2-6 more episodes of 'Parenthood'. Having their top rated drama finishing in February really does help explain how they've managed to go down the toilet.

HOWEVER, this mid-season line-up does look promising for them - and may push them ahead of ABC come the end of the season :o.

Community will be back to air the rest of the season.

NBC does make some bloody odd choices.

Removing 'Community' isn't too bad of a choice imo, it's doing 1.5 on the biggest night for tv - I think it could do a bit better in March/April? However, the lack of 'Parenthood' is just boggling - I'm not even a huge fan - but why would you end your biggest drama early  whilst ordering EXTRA 'Harry's Law'?

I wasn't on about Community, at least that's coming back. Plus the choice to hold back Smash was brilliant.

I too just don't get the way NBC treat Parenthood, it's a fantastic show and it get's some pretty darned good ratings. Plus I don't understand why Harry's Law is still airing! If that was on Fox it'd have been axed quite some time ago.

Harry's Law gets higher ratings than Fringe and FOX have yet to pull the plug on that :D

Parenthood probably costs a lot to make but yeah the fashion thing is an instant flop obviously. I don't think their mid season line up is actually that promising at all and I doubt if they will finish ahead of ABC, who have two hit new dramas already and will probably get another in Scandal and possibly The River too.

I've been reading some worrying stuff about GCB though, apparently the work the director did on the pilot was awful and they had to reshoot it... also the pilot episode was available to watch on some aeroplane journeys and a couple of IMDB users caught it and said it was crap. It's a good cast though so I'll hold out hope.

ABC have about five pilots being written at the minute which all sound like potential DH replacements...

~ A Woman Of Steel (title translated from the Mexican soap opera it's based on, about a Texas heiress who loses her fortune and has to go home to the ranch she grew up on - produced by Eva Longoria)

~Beautiful Gangsters (about three mob wives who cut a deal with the FBI to go into witness protection together in suburban Canada where they have to try and resist the urge to return to a life of crime - might air over Summer 2012 rather than from Fall)

~Devious Maids (written by Marc Cherry, about a group of Latina maids in a neighbourhood who get involved in a mystery involving a dead body)

~The Circle (written by Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey's Anatomy, a 'part-soap, part-conspiracy-thriller' about ten friends who were adopted as children by a billionaire and who have to solve the murder of one of their group)

So there's a lot of soap-ish stuff which might be made into a series on ABC for next year that might have more potential to be the new DH than GCB.

I have absolutely NO idea why Fringe is still on air. Although it is on Friday rather than during the week. Harry's Law would be fine on a Friday with it's current ratings.
Thanks for the consice explanations everyone. I now can cry over the loss of "Pan Am" and watch the episodes on repeat.

I'll take the Eva Longoria show please. The worst thing about DH ending is not having her on my screen.

I've found an Awake director on twitter, not even she seems to know what's happening with the show and why NBC haven't announced a place on the schedule for it, other than that they were asked to produce 12 episodes. According to another article, they've so far filmed five episodes and resume filming on November 28th. It's just annoying that'll I'll have been eager for this for almost a year before it eventually airs.

Looks like it's a filler show for that inevitable moment they decide enough is enough with one of their many ratings losers.
