New entries:

Eurovision effect: Choices from this year's Eurovision are pretty much same as mine, although my fave was Latvia's entry by miles. Popular had a really good presentation but song itself isn't that great to finish at #3, but it has a good vibe at some points. Sognu on the other hand is pretty good but failed to impress as i expected. Running Scared is decent, nice catchy melody but NO WAY deserved to be the winner. What About My Dreams? and Taken By a Stranger were both levels above from the majority of the other entries, especially Lena's which is incredible.

Adele - Set Fire To The Rain: Spectacular. Best song on the album and one of my fave this year.

Lady GaGa - The Edge Of Glory: Instant obsession for this one and aside looning a strong glamorous pop moment of our times.

Noah & The Whale - Tonight's The Kind Of Night: not impressed much, probably one of those that i won't listen again on my own but don't bother listen to it on radio.

Take That - Love Love: Kidz part 2, not a bad thing but nowhere near to Kidz.

I like surprises!!! :P Adele was at #1 in my Pre-Release Chart last week so the signs were looking for promising for 'SFTTR' to be a big hit in my main chart. Fast forward 7 days and that's exactly what's happened. :D The success of the track in Europe has been a playing factor in all this - I'm sure 'Set Fire To The Rain' will better its current peak of #44 in the UK eventually.

Agreed. This is the Lady GaGa I like - a really strong pop song without the awkward OTT nonsense that made 'Born This Way' and moreso 'Judas' lack the appeal of previous hits. 'Judas' has fallen so much out of favour that it exits the chart from no. 23 after a mere four weeks on the chart. Clearly from its storming first week entry, 'The Edge Of Glory' will most likely be GaGa's most successful single from this era in my chart - sad that it's taken 3 singles to get there.

Compared to previous years, Eurovision hasn't really taken my chart by storm. The last couple of years at least 3/4 Eurovision tracks have made my top 10. This year only 'Popular' was brilliant enough to make a big impact. However, the newly released tracks from Lady GaGa and Take That stole their thunder.

Great to see you also liking most of this weeks new entries. :D 'Running Scared' is a really nice song but it's never been an absolute fave. In fact, it's charted lower for me than Alexander Rybak 'Fairytale' did (#15) and I'd actually say I prefer 'Running Scared' of the two. It was just an unfortunate week for the Eurovision (semi) onslaught.

Isn't it? :D Considering it's mammoth sales, I think it's safe to say that the majority of people around the world would regard their fave album of 2011 to be '21' by Adele. It really is a gem with so many good tracks. Whoever is responsible for the marketing of Adele has done a remarkable job. So many reasons why Adele is doing so well - especially in the UK. For such a talented, grounded yet charasmatic singer, Adele really is unique to the music industry. I just hope when Adele does start working on album #3, it'll be another fine collection of songs.

From originally being my 3rd fave Eurovision track, this has ended up being my fave Eurovision track overtaking 'Sognu'. It's also interesting that the music video has been getting played on Chart Show TV - one of the UK's music channels. You can clearly tell that Sweden take Eurovision really seriously - it's their one chance to make one of their own artists "popular" (pun intended :kink: ) in other countries.

 

06 (--) Take That - Love Love (06) [1 wk] - Need to here this more, but I loved it from one listen, so hopefully when I hear it again, I'll love it even more.

 

It's a brilliant track. Upon seeing the title, I was expecting this to be a ballad so when I listened for the first time my initial reaction to the first 5 seconds of the song was a mixture of :o and :D . It just wasn't what I'd expected to hear but thankfully this follows on really well from 'Kids' which was also excellent.

Another excellent slice of folk rock following the success of 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.' - there's a good chance this will stick around too despite missing out on the top 10. Once the Eurovision phase has passed, tracks like this will still flourish.

Following on from my above post; not all previous Eurovision winners have made my chart. Last year 'Satellite' got to #2 as it was an excellent winning song. 'Fairytale' got to #15 for me in 2009. However, 'Believe' (2008) and 'Molitva' (2007) failed to chart because imo they were both crap. :D However, Lordi made my chart in 2006 with the hilariously brilliant (I saw them as a novelty act :( ) 'Hard Rock Hallelulah'. Perhaps quite oddly, 2006 was the first year when Eurovision actually made an impact on my chart. No Eurovision tracks made my chart in 2005.

The Eurovision songs in my chart were easily the ones that had the biggest impact. I reckon had it not been for 'The Edge Of Glory' and 'Love Love' making such a sudden impact after their to radio, to retail release, 'Sognu' would've easily made my top 10. It just ended up falling short.

That's exactly why 'The Edge Of Glory' has done so well for me in its first week. 'Born This Way' made #5 in my chart - it was good bu could've been better. Then there was 'Judas' which was simply a poor mans 'Bad Romance' (and 'Bad Romance' is a pop masterpiece imo). 'Hair' is due to chart next week but I already know it won't be anywhere as successful in the long term as 'TEOG'.

 

Noah & The Whale - Tonight's The Kind Of Night: not impressed much, probably one of those that i won't listen again on my own but don't bother listen to it on radio.

 

Noah & The Whale have release great singles so far and I've heard good comments about their album. I've still not looked into their album - might listen to the preview clips on iTunes later and see what it's like.

Definitely 'Kids Pt II' but all the better for it. I can imagine Take That effortlessly performing a medley of 'Kids' and 'Love Love' as it tempo is similar, and both tracks are in the same key.

Great to see much appreciation for the top 2 - definitely my fave two tracks at the moment. Although 'Set Fire To The Rain' has been bubbling under since I bought '21' back in February - it definitely stands out as an album track highlight. It's success in Europe is the reason for the tracks apperance here. Silly chart rule in short; if a song enters the Hitstastic International Top 30 (formerly HET30), those tracks qualify for my personal chart, therefore they don't require a UK release.

 

It probably sounds lame to have "rules" but my chart would end up being far too cluttered if I allowed myself to chart anything.

I really don't know to be honest, but I'd hope it does get some radio support and maybe a music video - it deserves to peak higher than #44. Preferably #1 but I'd be happy for top 10. :D

Totally agree. It makes me wonder if the whole campaign would've been more successful had this been the official first single rather than the dreaded "we really need to drum up interest" technically third single. It is without doubt the best Lady GaGa single since 'Bad Romance'.

Funny how things turn out. No need to repeat what I've said about 'Popular' but it's such a slickly produced track. It really is pop at its finest. I actually do think it's a shame Sweden didn't win as this really did deserve it imo.

Well, it hit #1 in New Zealand and subsequently entered the Hitstastic International Top 30 (formerly known as HET30) so firstly the track qualified to enter my personal chart despite having no UK release. As it is, it's become more popular with me. It's pleasant acoustic rock - probably not to everyone's taste, but I like it. See the music video below:

I think the most famous "contest flop" to do well for me was Waldo's People 'Lose Control' which hit #2 in my chart despite an average live performance and last on the leaderboard. There's no denying the studio version of 'Lose Control' was Eurotastic. :D

This is a really good track but maybe it is "too 90s". :lol: It's nice to see Shola Ama back in the spotlight - seems once popular artists are making a (semi) comeback. First Ms Dynamite, now Shola Ama. Maybe there's still hope for Jamelia and Delta Goodrem. :D

It really deserves its place at #1. I've loved the song since I bought '21' and listened to it for the first time - it was an instant click moment. It's already been #1 in Holland and Flanders (Belguim). Would be nice to see the track become more successful in more countries.
