I've just finished watching W.E. on LoveFilm. I was always willing to be open-minded when watching the film, despite the bad reviews given by movie critics, but I must say this is one of the best films I've watched in a long while! I was constantly hooked throughout, it's just like a book which you cannot put down once you've started. Some have criticised the switching between the 1930s and 1998 and would have rathered it was just focused on Wallis and Edward, but I didn't find it a problem at all. After all, W.E. is about Wally's own views and interpretation of Wallis and Edward's relationship so both time sequences are needed. I liked some of the transitions too.

I didn't know much about Edward's abdication and this really helped me to understand it, also I liked that it showcased both sides of the story. The drunk dancing half way through was hilarious - the Sex Pistols' Pretty Vacant playing over this scene may not have been relevant to the time but again, this is Wally's interpretation and I trust misbehaving in the royal family would be absurd and cause outrage, just like the Sex Pistols did. I love how the dancing was repeated at the end when Wallis and Edward are old, but this time it was more emotional, albeit quite a happy emotion.

This film definitely reflects the originality Madonna brings to her music and W.E. is certainly a film I would want to watch time and time again.
