38 - T'Pau "China In Your Hand" (1987) (+16)

This was a massive hit, spending 5 weeks at number one. T'Pau never had similar success again, with their follow up reaching 9 and no T10 hits scored after that. CIYH was the second hit for T'Pau after 'Heart And Soul' which reached 4.

37 - Tiffany "I Think We're Alone Now" (1988) (+16)

This debut hit for Tiffany spent 3 weeks at number one. She followed up with two more T10 hits, a T20 hit and two hits that missed T40 altogether before disappearing.

36 - Culture Club "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" (1982) (+17)

It was the first hit for the club which climbed to number one on its sixth week and spent three weeks there. It wasn't as big as 'Karma Chameleon', but it has done better in this rate.

35 - Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" (1983) (+17)

This was a massive comeback for Bonnie. Her last hit was back in 1979 and her last T10 hit was in 1977. But in 1983 she became big with this song that spent 2 weeks at number one. Let's forget that Glee ruined this and got their version T10

34 - Kraftwerk "The Model/Computer Love" (1982) (+17)

They had lots of T40 hits, but this is the only to go T10 - let alone number one. But it sure did take it's time, entering the chart at 60 in July 1981 and falling out by August. It then re-entered the chart in late December at 50 and was number one in February 1982 for one week

33 - Madonna "Papa Don't Preach" (1986) (+18)

It's her again! This song went to number one and stayed there for three weeks. The follow up also went to number one ('True Blue', which we've already seen in this countdown)

32 - The Jam "Going Underground/Dreams Of Children" (1980) (+20)

This was the first number one hit out of four for The Jam, and the second T10 hit out of nine. Paul Weller did go solo but never had a number one single on his own.

31 - Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (1984) (+20)

This song spent five weeks at number one in December/January, and is the second best selling single of all time. This is also responsible for the best selling number two of all time (Wham 'Last Christmas', which spent five weeks at number two behind this massive seller) There are three versions of DTYIC, but this is the original and the best

I'm glad that Frankie Goes To Hollywood did rubbish here. No idea how they managed to do so well in this game - maybe you had to be there at the time?!

You may well be right in that you had to 'be there' at the time.

I was :)

In 1984, Frankie were a phenomenon. The banning of 'Relax' and the banning of the 'Two Tribes' video as well.

And the 'Frankie Say' T-shirts fuelled the general hype & excitement.

By 1986 and the release of the 'Liverpool' album the Frankie bubble had well and truely burst.

39 - Adam & The Ants "Stand And Deliver" (1981) (+14)

This was the first number one for Adam and his ants and the fifth T10 hit out of seven. Adam also scored another three T10 hits including a number one on his own as 'Adam Ant'.

I gave this 15 of its 14 points!

I can't believe it's so low, it's a fantastic song, easily my favourite number one of the 80s! Disappointing to see 'The Reflex' finish on minus points too, I can't see me liking the results of this as much as I have the other two...

44 - Blondie "Call Me" (1980) (+07)

This song was the fourth of six number ones for her

her? Blondie were and still are in fact a group though.

I gave this 15 of its 14 points!

Loads of people gave Adam and the Ants -2 in the final round. Not sure why, but there you go.

34 - Kraftwerk "The Model/Computer Love" (1982) (+17)

Computer Love was sampled by Coldplay's Talk. Both The Model and Computer Love are amazing and so influential.

I think Im the only one who prefer Bandaid 2 to this version. ^_^

Already know who's gonna win, but if I tell anyone, Daniel would kill me.

I like that version too- the original is OK but the 2004 version is just a shout-a-thon at the end.
The 1989 version is pretty awful. The 2004 version suffers a bit because they tried to include various genres and take it outside of its 80s synth-pop origins...the 89 version just updated the production a bit with S/A/W standard sounds.
Ah, not supposed to be something to be happy and upbeat about!
