Posted May 28, 201114 yr Joanna Newsom - On a Good Day 1:50 How amazing would it have been if it was 4 mins long.
May 28, 201114 yr Vampire Weekend - A Punk (although I have made a 3:10 edit for DJing purposes) The Vaccines - Wreckin' Bar Teenage Fanclub - Get Funky
May 28, 201114 yr Interesting thread! Neko Case - Hold on, Hold on (2:46 though so not that short but could be longer) which reminded me of Sparks - Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth (2:28).. one of my favourite songs ever
May 28, 201114 yr Most of my favourite short songs, I can't imagine being any longer. I guess some could work if they were drawn out live, maybe as an encore. "Blitzkrieg Bop" springs to mind, the recorded version is perfect at 2.20 though.
May 28, 201114 yr Vampire Weekend are actually pretty good at this Also, Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal Amy Winehouse - Love Is a Losing Game
May 28, 201114 yr Author I kinda think punky songs should be short so I went for more acoustic songs that I think could be longer without ruining them. Snow Patrol and Martha Wainright's Set for To the Third Bar is heartbreakingly short too. Edited May 28, 201114 yr by tonyttt31
May 28, 201114 yr Boards of Canada - Roygbiv (2:31) 30s more wouldn't hurt Kasabian - Orange (46s) Too short for such interesting sounds Aphex Twin - I (1:17) Superb little ambient song DJ Shadow - Organ Donor (1:57)
May 28, 201114 yr One that I immediately think of is Róisín Murphy - Overpowered. I wouldn't have mind it at all if that last instrumental part went on for 2/3 more minutes. And almost every Johnny Cash song (especially the early ones)
May 29, 201114 yr DJ Shadow - Organ Donor (1:57) The version on Endtroducing... is edited, there is a 4 minute odd version which was on the High Noon single and also is available on the anniversary edition of said Endtroducing... album.[/geek]
May 29, 201114 yr I don't think in terms of indie/alternative songs you could really ever argue a song is "too short". They have evidently been crafted to be that way and I bet you if they were to be elongated it'd often take away from what makes them so special in the first place (Joanna Newsom being a definite example of this). The logic works with pop songs where a simple chorus repeat or bridge could be added in. Those kind of pop songs that aren't effective in shorter form as they don't quite have enough time to get the melody etc across...
May 30, 201114 yr "Song 2" by Blur is a short song (2 min.) but that make it special. Everything is in its right place. But "Intro" by The xx could be a bit longer. It's one of the best intros I ever heard. The version on Endtroducing... is edited, there is a 4 minute odd version which was on the High Noon single and also is available on the anniversary edition of said Endtroducing... album.[/geek] I didn't know that. Thanks.
May 30, 201114 yr All short songs i know probably are better left the way they are except for Deerhunter's Revival. 30 seconds too short for me personally.
May 30, 201114 yr Song number 2 - Blur Teenage Kicks - Undertones both great tracks that were never quite long enough!
May 30, 201114 yr Nope Teenage Kicks is perfect as it is. The only song that immediately strikes me is Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths which I think is a shade under 2 minutes long. Always wanted a longer version of this.

Same with Girlfriend In A Coma, that ends far too quickly.
May 30, 201114 yr There are very few that should be extended, most of the time they're perfect just as they are. However, there are still some and the one that springs immediately to mind is Kate Bush's 'The Morning Fog', the combination of it being at the end of an epic album and the abruptness of the final part has always made me wish it was longer.
