Posted July 29, 200618 yr Virgin.net Music news Artists criticise Blunt Emerging singer songwriters James Morrison and Paolo Nutini have slammed comparisons with James Blunt. Both artists feel that the comparison is unfair and damages their credibility as artists, with Morrison remarking: "If there's one thing that does my head in it's being compared to James Blunt. It makes me want to scream. "I don't see any similarity in our music. James Blunt? Come on! "Just because I am a man, I play the guitar and my name is James - that's the only similarity." Nutini added: "I don't think anyone who likens me to him can have heard my album. "I've met him and he's a nice guy, but I don't get the James Blunt craze. "Once you scratch beneath the surface of his songs, there doesn't seem to be anything there." Do you think James Morrison & Paolo Nutini are similar to James Blunt or not?
July 29, 200618 yr Not really. I've seen it said a few times, but hadn't though of it myself. I think it's PR people behind James Morrison and Paolo Nutini trying to become popular by association, with articles like the above. Clever trick perhaps, but I don't see the similiarity myself.
July 29, 200618 yr Just because they're male, write their own songs, and like they said play a guitar, people assume they are in the same category. However, if Blunt wasn't as big as he is, the other two probably wouldn't be either, as many of James Blunt's fan will have heard these are supposed to be like him and will have bought their stuff.
July 30, 200618 yr Just because they're male, write their own songs, and like they said play a guitar, people assume they are in the same category. i was wondering why the credits are different on morrison's record and will young record when the same person co-wrote it: Francis 'Eg' White is a British musician, songwriter and producer. He started his career in the bands Yip Yip Coyote and, with his brother David, Brother Beyond in the late 1980's, leaving the latter when they became involved with the songwriting team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman and just prior to their chart successes. In 1990 White teamed up with London model and BMX champion Alice Temple, and together they recorded the critically acclaimed pop album 24 Years of Hunger, which was released in 1991 under the name Eg and Alice. It was described by All Music Guide as "one of the finest, most refined and fully realized recordings of the era, employing a much more sophisticated and romantic style than anything else out of England at the time". In spite of the critical acclaim (the album featured in many major music publications top 50 albums of 1991) and two well received singles Indian and Doesn't Mean That Much To Me, the album failed to enter the UK top 75 chart. In 1992 White produced the debut, self titled album by Kinky Machine, then disappeared from the music scene until 1996 when he released his debut solo album Turn Me On, I'm a Rocket Man, again critically acclaimed, although the singles "Stay Home" (written by Andy Sturmer, originally recorded by Jellyfish) and "Do It for Myself" failed to chart. In 1997 he provided instrumentation for the sessions of Suggs' solo album The Three Pyramids Club, but in 1999 his career really started to take off as he became an in-demand songwriter, musician and producer. He collaborated with Alice Temple again for her solo debut album Hang Over, and with Icelandic/Italian singer Emiliana Torrini on her debut album Love In The Time Of Science. In 2002, White co-wrote the track "Say It" from the Alison Moyet album Hometime. He also co-wrote produced and provided the majority of instrumentation on Through My Eyes, the debut album from Nicole Russo, and Dive Deeper by Jade Anderson. White also worked extensively on Javine's debut album Surrender in 2003. White's song "Leave Right Now" was recorded by Will Young in 2003, and reached number 1 in the UK singles chart. In recognition, White was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically in 2004. White also co-wrote two other tracks on Young's Fridays Child album, "Going My Way" and "Out Of My Mind". In 2004, White worked on the tracks "Legend" and "U've Only Got 1" from the Tamyra Gray Album The Dreamer, and co wrote "You Had Me", the lead single from the second Joss Stone album Mind Body and Soul. White continues to be highly in demand as a songwriter, and was largely responsible for the lead single "Shiver" from the Natalie Imbruglia album Counting Down The Days, as well as the track "Slowdown". He also worked on the albums Set the Tone by Nate James (track and second single "Universal"), Tissues and Issues by Charlotte Church (second single "Call My Name") and In The Red by Tina Dico (tracks "Use Me" and "Give In") Recently he has co-writes on tracks for new albums by Simon Webbe ("Free") and Will Young, including the album tracks "Keep On", "Save Yourself" and "Think About It", as well as a White/Lucie Silvas co-write that was the Number 11 UK Hit "Who Am I". In addition to the Will Young single, he also co-wrote the recent debut Top 10 hit for James Morrison called "You Give Me Something". so does this mean if the record company think its more singer/songw. the credit will read F White, but if its more pop the credit will read eg white. bizarre?
August 5, 200618 yr They're not similar at all. James Blunt is strictly a ballad-hit maker. His songs are mainly ballads. If you hear Paolo Nutini's album "These Streets" you'll realize there's nothing similar about them two. His new single "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" will prove everyone who found similarities wrong, it is a more rock sound and a bit funky as well. James Morrison, on the other hand, is the most talented in my opinion. His songs have a mix between blues and pop in some way, which has nothing to do with Mr. Blunt's style.
September 10, 200618 yr Author HE'S A BLUNT KIND OF GUY SundayMirror.co.uk JAMES Blunt has begged Robbie Williams's former music partner Guy Chambers to help him write that "difficult" second album, I can reveal. Former soldier Blunt's debut album Back To Bedlam was the biggest-seller of 2005 and helped him notch two Brit Awards. Now he is busy working on the follow-up record - often a pitfall for first-time success stories. And he has asked Guy - who helped pen one song, Tears And Rain, on Back To Bedlam - to co-write the whole of the new album. My spy revealed: "They've been good friends for a while and James is leaning on him heavily." Is there anyone around at the moment who is NOT working with Guy Chambers?
September 10, 200618 yr Oh lord  It's like every femal artist who emerges singing pop/rocky songs is now Clarkson  People were doing what Blunt and Clarkson have done for a long time before those two started out doing music just because they have been overhyped to beyond death and been really successful in the past year or so everybody associates all the up and coming artists of the moment as ripping of them.
September 10, 200618 yr I like James Morrison. I don't people should judge them until they have seen them live or heard their album.
September 10, 200618 yr James Morrison is a blatant carbon copy of Blunt. Both foul. Nutini I don't think so however.

I really like James Morrison's album whereas there is only one song of JB's I like, High. Hving said that I don't agree with artists slagging other artists off. Both James & Paulo would do well to remember that James Blunt is very popular. ;) Edited September 11, 200618 yr by truly talented
September 11, 200618 yr James morrison is FAR better than Blunt. He has a singing voice which i can listen to withut feeling the urge to stragle someone
September 13, 200618 yr James morrison is FAR better than Blunt. He has a singing voice which i can listen to withut feeling the urge to stragle someone  i think i rather he wrote with his co-writers for will young. shocking

I disagree with the James Morrison comment, he looks like Blunt but doesn't sing like him. Last Request could have been a Blunt song too really. I've heard James Morrison live - and he is fantastic, but his debut is really disappointing for such a talented singer. So predictable...which is a shame. Paolo Nutini - I'm loving Jenny Don't Be Hasty - funky rocky - yeah all true!

No but seriously who is working with him?
September 17, 200618 yr James morrison CANNOT sing  James Blunt is Overated. I some way they are both similar, overatted, boring voices and c**p songs
September 19, 200618 yr I disagree with the James Morrison comment, he looks like Blunt but doesn't sing like him. Last Request could have been a Blunt song too really. nah more a will young song. would have been much better with him warbling over it.
September 21, 200618 yr James Morrison's record company were desperate for him to be this year's James Blunt... come on, they even packaged his album in a similar sleeve, same lettering... clever marketing ploy to fleece the punters..... saying that, I have the Morrison album and it's a messy mish-mash of Stevie Wonder and Jamiroquai - nothing original there in any shape or form.
September 21, 200618 yr Frankly when I saw that James Morrison album cover I was thinking "Christ, they found some bloody clone of Richard Ashcroft..."  Musically, he is incredibly mediocre, hardly anything to write home about. I cant stand James Blunt, but hell, I'd even listen to him before I listened to Morrison....
