Lady GaGa's new album Born This Way has been banned in Lebanon for being "offensive to Christianity."

A shipment of the 'Edge Of Glory' singer's long-awaited record, which this week became the fastest-selling album of 2011 worldwide, has reportedly been impounded by the country's General Security department on grounds of taste.

The 25-year-old previously saw Born This Way's second single 'Judas' pulled from radio stations in Lebanon over its controversial use of religious figures.

The song and its accompanying video, which features GaGa's Mary Magdalene torn between her love for Jesus and Judas, was also slammed by religious groups around the world, despite her insistence that it was intended as a "cultural statement".

Apparently it's not OK to be lebanese.... or orient...

it's also weird that it was banned from an arab country for being offensive to christianity while the rest of the christian world doesn't mind at all. :o

I read this on DS earlier on thought 'wtf'... Does it really matter? It's modern day music ffs!
I suppose it's banned also in the majority of the south east asia countries where being homosexual is forbidded (death penalty can occur)....

but it Lebanon it wasn't banned for being pro-gay since Lebanon is a pro-gay country. :cheer:

It was banned 4 being anti-christian.... ^_^

Anti-Christian? It's just telling you to be yourself so... :P

I guess they didn't like the way Gaga referred the Lebanese in Born This Way lol

I guess they can't stop downloads anyway. The only difference will be the physical product will not be in the shops, and I don't know what the market is like there, but if it was China it was banned in there would be a ton of bootlegs. What if they released a special version of the album without Judas but with a bonus mix of BTW or something? Still I don't think that there should be any reason to ban it, she doesn't say anything offensive...
I'm guessing it's also because of the 'lebanese' reference in 'Born This Way'...

Ban is lifted.

Lady GaGa's second album Born This Way has been allowed into Lebanon.

The Middle East state originally banned the record for being "offensive to Christianity", but the country's General Security department has now authorised shipments of the albums to be delivered.

GaGa's fans protested towards the government, explaining that the ban on selling Born This Way was pointless because they were able to stream the album online, reports The Sun.

Confirmation for retailers regarding permission to sell the record came in a statement which declared: "The CD has received approval for entry and distribution in Lebanon."

GaGa's spokesperson also confirmed the news.

Born This Way has become the fastest-selling album of 2011 globally so far, having reached number one in 28 countries since its release on May 23.
