But Justin Timberlake was a 'full-on pop artist' in the past, and Mariah Carey was a ballad singer, so I therefore see no reason why collaborating with KP or DG would be seen as any different by his fans?

Because Snoop Dogg has stuck completely to doing gangsta rap for about 20 years and is now suddenly doing big pop collaborations and completely alienating much of the fanbase he spent two decades building up.

Great to see Beyonce sticking around. She should get another week top 40 next week with the album coming out.

Amazing that Enrique has climbed this far already! :D

Woah, you make out it's some sort of crime if Snoop Dogg goes commercial for a couple of records.

I wouldn't say Justin Timberlake was a "full-on pop artist". He's done plenty of urban songs (infact, looking at his discography, it seems mostly urban), including like a million Timbaland collabs. I'm talking about his solo material obviously, not his N Sync songs. Now most of those are definitely pop. :puke:

Well, it's not a big deal for all of us who aren't fans of his, or like me, I've only been paying attention to him for a small proportion of his overall career.

It's like if the Black Eyes Peas started making rock music, I don't think I'd be happy at all. :(

No, I make it out Snoop Dogg's fans make it out it's some sort of crime if Snoop Dogg goes commercial for a couple of records.

Which they do.

I don't mind about artists 'selling out' (the Guetta remix of Sweat is his best song IMO) but you can't really ignore the fact that California Gurls and the Guetta remix of Sweat have alienated his fanbase a bit :P

I have a feeling Loick Essien's 'How We Roll' will be number one when it's released next week. I really like the chorus of that song.

I'm glad it's you that intimated gangsta rap is not commercial, rather than me...

And those were obviously the ones I was referring to. :)

It's the old problem - do you want to sell only to a small but loyal fanbase, or do you widen your appeal to try & make more money?

It'll be low top 40 at best (like Stuttering) I think. The only reason I even know what that song is is because R1 have A-Listed it for some reason, despite Loick's other two singles flopping.

It's another very slow week, that and Martin Solveig's Ready 2 Go are the only new songs I can see impacting the top 40. Jason will be #1 again unfortunately... :(

Bray, the song has been shown quite a bit on the music channels too.

Only speaking truth. :P

Stuttering was too :P

Isn't whatever is commercial just whatever is popular at the time?

I think both How We Roll and Ready 2 Go will do well. Both great songs, especially the latter imo. How We Roll reminds me of Don't Hold Your Breath for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe it's the chorus's instrumentals.

It did The Saturday's were at #23 before Graham...They are closing in on #19 too.

Ah, but unlike me, you aren't (yet) perceived here as going OTT on the anti-rap line, so I have to dial it back in a bit. ;)

'Wet' is so much better and more subtle than 'Sweat'. For me 'Wet' wins all over 'Sweat'

I also prefer the lyrics to Wet (it leaves less to the imagination ), but I prefer David Guetta's production over The Cataracs. Although I'd probably prefer The Cataracs version to be the one that's in the charts, because it's different to everything else (except Bass Down Low), which we can't say for David Guetta's version unfortunately. But then again, if they used the original version as the one that#s getting most of the promotion, it probably wouldn't have got in the charts in the first place. So it's just like a vicious circle.

I'm not anti-rap though. I do like it if it's any good - early hip-hop/rap (last century) is far better than that of today. Rap songs such as 'Lose Yourself' and the rap section in 'LTWYL Part II' are brilliant, but when you get $h!tty raps in songs like 'Give Me Everything' and many of Lil Wayne's songs (given the lyrics), it dents the genre.

Having said that, I don't think you should be criticised on here just for speaking out (a lot) against rap. Many people on here speak out against Justin Bieber, The Saturdays, Bruno Mars etc.
