Today, it's 26 years ago that Madonna's third album "True Blue" was released on June 30th 1986.

01.#1 in 28 countries an unprecedented achievement at that time

02. Worldwide best selling album of 1986

03. 24 million sales to date

04. 7 million sold in the US & 2 million sold in the UK

05. The album stayed at #1 in the UK & US charts for six weeks and five weeks

06. The album stayed at #1 for nine weeks in Canada

07. The album was going to be called "Live To Tell"

08. Madonna worked with Stephen Bray and new guy Patrick Leonard

09. Madonna wrote or co-wrote every song

10. Madonna dedicated the album to Penn saying, "This is dedicated to my husband, the coolest guy in the universe". (Madonna also said the same thing about Guy Ritchie when she dedicated "I Deserve It" to him at the first UK show of the Drowned World Tour)

11. La Isla Bonita was originally written for Michael Jackson's Bad album but Madonna took it instead and re-wrote the lyrics for herself

12. Love Makes The World Go Round was intended to be the first single. Madonna performed the song at Live Aid on July 13th 1985 nearly a whole year before the album was released.

14. Where's The Party was originally meant to be called Working My Fingers To The Bone

15. Papa Don't Preach was released as a cd video (a new thing for 1986).

16. Jimmy Jimmy is the only song not to be performed by Madonna live

17. Madonna performed Live To Tell while hanging from a mirrored cross and wearing a crown of thorns on the Confessions Tour. This performance faced immense backlash from religious groups including the Russian Orthodox Church, Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia and the Vatican, which condemned the performance as an act of hostility toward the Roman Catholic Church by religious leaders. Madonna defended her performance saying, "My performance is neither anti-Christian, sacrilegious or blasphemous. Rather, it is my plea to the audience to encourage mankind to help one another and to see the world as a unified whole. I believe in my heart that if Jesus were alive today he would be doing the same thing."

18. La Isla Bonita is the most performed song on the album Madonna has sung it live on the Who's That Girl Tour, Girlie Show, Drowned World Tour, Confessions Tour, Live Earth and Sticky & Sweet Tour 08/09

19. Madonna and Sire Records decided to opt for a promotional device in the United States that would involve MTV viewers to make their own videos for the True Blue video. The contest was known as "Madonna's 'Make My Video Contest"

20."White Heat" contains an audio sample from the 1949 film White Heat

21. Spotlight & Each Time You Break My Heart were album out-takes

22. Open Your Heart was written by Donna De Lory's then boyfriend. Originally called Follow Your Heart. Madonna changed some lyrics

23. La Isla Bonita became Madonna's 4th UK #1 single, she become the female with the most UK #1 singles, a record that she still holds with 13 #1's.

24. In 2001 the album was re-mastered which included two bonus track True Blue (The Color Mix) & La Isla Bonita (Extended Remix)

First cd album i ever bought!

 

I always change my mind on what my fav m album is, i often select this one!! A huge step up from LAV and the album cover is one of her most iconic pics ever!

 

Really hope she revisits wheres the party on her next tour!

I love the singles from this album, so ought to buy this album as I think I'd enjoy it.

I really like this album, it's not her best in my view but it's a big step up from Madonna & Like A Virgin.

All the singles were brilliant. I really love White Heat and Where's The Party too. I've been watching the Who's That Girl Tour dvd recently all the true blue songs really are performed well. Where's The Party is my current favourite madonna song.

The album cover is really "cool" I know that word is so over used but it really is a cool picture and iconic image.

Damn! I was going to buy this today as it was £6 in HMV, but I had to buy a CD for my dad's birthday. It would have been so cool if I bought it today :lol:
