Posted July 4, 201114 yr http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/AMC-The-Killing.jpg Is anybody watching this? It's an AMC remake of an original and very highly acclaimed Danish series. The adaptation has envoked pretty strong reactions in fans of the original (which I've not seen) who don't feel as though something so good should've been messed with but it also got rave reviews from critics in the US as with pretty much any AMC drama. I've just watched the first episode and I think it's really promising. Bleak as hell and not exactly 'entertaining' unless you're a total sadist but definitely worth sticking with...
July 4, 201114 yr It's on my 'to watch list' but I also wouldn't mind taking a look at the original, Forbrydelsen.
July 4, 201114 yr I will be checking it out to see what the fuss and acclaim is about. But it's my type of show anyway. Love a good long season arch though. Skepitcal regarding far the show could go. It seems to be based on one main storyline and once that is solved, what next? Could it go down the Twin peaks route and have the audience not care.
July 4, 201114 yr According to wiki, BBC Four showed Forbrydelsen in the UK and the feedback was fantastic. :o In Denmark they do one crime per season, the third series are coming soon I think.
July 4, 201114 yr It's brilliant (as is everything AMC touch) although I preferred the original - the finale was quite something too!
July 4, 201114 yr Author According to wiki, BBC Four showed Forbrydelsen in the UK and the feedback was fantastic. :o In Denmark they do one crime per season, the third series are coming soon I think. Yeah it got an average of about half a million viewers on BBC4 I think which by their standards is really healthy. And it got a ton of critical acclaim too. More people will watch the AMC remake on C4 when it begins this week though. I heard the second series of Forbrydelsen goes pretty much off the boil... it'll be interesting to see if AMC or any other channel remake the follow-up series. I can't really imagine The Killing going into a third season focusing on a different crime. The only reason Linden even stays in Seattle instead of moving to California like planned is to solve the case of Rosie's murder so...
July 6, 201113 yr Author It's brilliant (as is everything AMC touch) although I preferred the original - the finale was quite something too! I've just finished it and all I can say about the finale is wow. What a cliffhanger. The press and the bloggers following it had a bit of a meltdown over it apparently LOL and it's been voted 'the worst series finale ever' or some rubbish. It was ace! The whole series has been intense though. The mood is so ambient and bleak but kind of invitingly so.
July 7, 201113 yr Just watching this now. Michelle Forbes is one of my favourite actresses anyway so she's a bit of a bonus. A bit slow to begin but worth sticking with. Kath
July 7, 201113 yr Wow I really enjoy it, excellent first two epsiodes, its got everything a dodgy senator with something to hide, and the girls parents which have got me thinking if they are involved in some way. I must admit the lead actress looks a bit shabby but it kinda works with the concept of the series.
July 7, 201113 yr Author Mireille Enos (who plays Detective Linden) is by far the greatest thing about it. There's a point about eight or nine episodes in where you see her becoming slowly more obsessed with the case (I don't think I need to spoiler that) and she turns in some really amazing performances. Emmy-worthy.
July 8, 201113 yr Wow I really enjoy it, excellent first two epsiodes, its got everything a dodgy senator with something to hide, and the girls parents which have got me thinking if they are involved in some way. I must admit the lead actress looks a bit shabby but it kinda works with the concept of the series. I think the actors playing the parents are terrific - in fact their grief is the most 'grabbing' part of the show for me for now. The script they've been given to play out is excellent too. Michelle Forbes (the mother) is particularly good. She's come a long way since Ensign Ro on the Enterprise. The actress who plays Linden reminds me of Frances McDormand in Fargo (not looks - just the way she plays it). Kath
July 9, 201113 yr Loved this. Very bleak and pretty depressing. I'm not really an emotional person, but I found myself deeply upset when the family were coming to terms with what had happened.
July 10, 201113 yr Watched the pilot It's ok. Got better as it went along. Eager to see how it all progresses. I had no idea Michelle Forbes from True blood plays the Mum of the murdered girl. A big departure from Maryann.
July 10, 201113 yr Watched the pilot It's ok. Got better as it went along. Eager to see how it all progresses. I had no idea Michelle Forbes from True blood plays the Mum of the murdered girl. A big departure from Maryann. Michelle Forbes has been in so many things. Despite being in only eight episodes of STNG - her character was one of the most remembered and popular. She was a series regular on Homicide, Life on the Street as the Police ME. She's also featured prominently in episodes of UK dramas such as Holby City and Messiah (playing Ken Stott's deaf girlfriend/wife). She's that kind of strong female actress in the pattern of Sigourney Weaver. Like Sigourney Weaver - she's also in IMDb's list of 150 best actresses - ever. Kath
July 26, 201113 yr I've just finished the series, and I definitely understand the criticism the finale is coming under. Bloody brilliant cliffhanger(s), but none of it made any sense. I can understand not revealing who the killer was, but having Holder sabotage the investigation for some unknown reason when for the past thirteen episodes he's shown no inclination that he was involved in anything like this? Awful story telling.
July 27, 201113 yr I haven't been as addicted and intrigued as i thought i would. It's pretty dull until after Rosie's funeral. I was only interested in Linden and Holden's storylines. Whilst the acting and directing is 9/10 in the show, the writing is average at best.
July 28, 201113 yr I'm not even won over by the acting. Maybe a tiny bit by Michelle Forbes. I do not find the lead character (the detective woman) likeable or not likeable.
July 28, 201113 yr Author Really? I think Mireille Enos is amazing in this. Better than Michelle Forbes because she plays a more rounded character. I don't know how far the UK pace showing is now but by episode 8 or so she really starts to do impressive things.
