Pia Toscano has signed a record deal.

 

The former American Idol star, who came ninth in season ten of the reality television show, has confirmed that she will be releasing an album with Interscope Records later this year.

 

A spokesperson for Toscano told Entertainment Weekly that the singer's first single 'This Time', an acoustic guitar track by Ester Dean, is scheduled for release in the US on July 12, shortly before she heads off on the 'American Idol Live!' tour.

 

Dean has written a number of singles for Rihanna including 'S&M' and 'Rude Boy'. She also appears on Nicki Minaj's 'Super Bass'.

 

Toscano revealed earlier this year that her first record would be a "pop album with an R&B influence", adding: "It's definitely going to be big ballads, but there's also going to be those fun up-tempo songs, those dancing songs. I feel like on the show people really only saw me in one way, and I want to show the world that I can do other things."

 

When the 22-year-old singer was axed from American Idol, judge Jennifer Lopez said that she was "shocked" despite the fact that Toscano needed to work on her vocals. Celebrities including Alyssa Milano and Dax Shepard also expressed disappointment that their favourite contestant had gone home on Twitter.

 

Toscano said that she was overwhelmed by the large amount of public support she received from the judges, stars and fans following her elimination.

I'm kind of expecting big things from this one, because Ester Dean has made some rather good songs lately and two, after the uproar from her leaving, I doubt the label will want to disappoint fans.

Loved her on American Idol and hope for big things, but if I'm being honest, 'acoustic guitar' isn't really making me that excited.

O, dear, it is obvious a pay back time for Pia.

This year AI wanted a teenage winner and Pia is out of that age certainly; the album and the record contract is a 'gift' for her and her fans from AI.

Yes, she is very pretty and good vocals there I agree with that. :)

I really like it, even if it is quite generic and sounds like something Jordin Sparks would record. I would have loved to see her come out with similar stuff to what J.Lo is doing just now. I think she has potential to make it big, but this, even if I like it, isn't going to be the song that does that for her.
