July 11, 201113 yr I really love all those songs :( (bar Stole which is very boring) although its a shame WWWY is The Killers highest charting hit, its great don't get me wrong, but they've had so much better (I know Human has outsold it etc :P ) All These Thing I've Done is really underrated by them :(
July 11, 201113 yr If I had voted Ms Jackson would have been top 15  Oh well. La Roux would have been a little bit higher too. I think the reason there's so many new entries in those days might've been because the sales were so low, so fanbases could more easily get themselves in the chart. And also more songs were held back, so they spent much less time in the chart overall. I think it's good in a way, because you get to hear a wider variety of music on the chart show and stuff. Not the same mainstream songs hanging around for 4 months like we have atm. It's very little to do with sales. There was a slight increase in terms of new entries in the low-selling 2003-05 years (as you can see here) which could probably be atributed to lower sales to get in the top 40 but it was nothing drastic as you can see. The most new entries in one week happened in 1997 (which is also the "fastest" year ever in that respect) and that was far from low-selling. It's just the way singles were marketed in the physical days - everything very much geared to the first week in terms of price, promotion, shelf space, etc. If iTunes put all new releases at 59p on their first week we might start seeing an increase again (although I doubt it would go back to those levels), but I guess OA/OS kind of would make that harder anyway. And yes, it was good in those days. Back then you could listen to the top 40 and hear songs and bands you had never heard before  Edited July 11, 201113 yr by superbossanova
July 11, 201113 yr I wonder what happened to La Roux? Not heard much from them recently. I know Elly Jackson supposedly has a part on All Of The Lights. Wonder when they'll come back with new material, it's been a while since IFTK/Bulletproof now. When You Were Young  To be honest I would be able to name most of The Killers' singles if you asked me. They've produced so many classics in their relatively sortish career. Disappointed but unsurprised and surprised respectively that US and WF have missed the top 10. :( La Roux are going to be on Dr. Dre's new album apparently. He's sampling In For the Kill on it actually (Skream's remix of course). They said on Radio 1 that they're sampling the vocals (probably for the hook), and then Dr. Dre is putting his own instrumental behind it, and then obviously rapping some verses. It should be good, and I think they'll get credited (i.e. Dr. Dre ft. La Roux). To be honest, I can see In For the Kill being a song that gets sampled extensively in years to come, in all genres. Other than that, I have no idea what's going on with them now.
July 12, 201113 yr Great to see Sophie Ellis Bextor, Shakira, Take That & Daft Punk in the top 10
July 12, 201113 yr Author 10 - Sophie Ellis Bextor "Murder On The Dancefloor" (2001) (+48) Sophie had 2 number 2 hits, but this one was much more sucessful, spending 5 weeks in the top 5 but Daniel Bedingfield stopped her from going to number one. This comes from the album 'Read My Lips', which also made number two. BsISfQAXE60
July 12, 201113 yr Author 09 - Bodyrox feat. Luciana "Yeah Yeah" (2006) (+49) For me, this is the best number two of the 00s. I love the dance beats and the shouting vocals which make the song as great and danceable as it is. Having said that, I prefer the song that stopped this going to number one - Fedde Le Grand's 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit'. For these reasons PYHUFD and YY are the best UK Top 2 ever, both are perfect dance songs and in my top 20 favourite songs of all time (not that I've compiled one) o2Xq4q1wCk4
July 12, 201113 yr Author 08 - Michael Jackson "Man In The Mirror" (2009) (+53) This song was originally released in 1988 where it would only make number 21. But, as you all know, the king of pop died in 2009 and MITM went shooting straight up the charts. It would have made a great number one but Cascada ruined it for him, and as a right punishment they have flopped with every single since then. PivWY9wn5ps Edited July 12, 201113 yr by danielMFAO
July 12, 201113 yr Wow at Yeah Yeah coming top ten :o Pleased to see Sophie here! I know people sneer at Cascada beating Man In The Mirror but fair's fair - Evacuate The Dancefloor was the bigger selling and more enduring hit during 2009, it's not one of those unjust cases like all of those mega front loaded #1's holding off Love The Way You Lie last summer. That and ETD is my favourite single of theirs and I was elated to finally see them get a UK #1!
July 12, 201113 yr Author 07 - Shakira "Whenever, Wherever" (2002) (+55) Before 'Hips Don't Lie', this was the biggest hit for Shakira, spending ten weeks T10. But this is the biggest case of "What were they thinking" when Shakira released on the same week as Will Young, who would become the biggest seller of the decade. Shakira points out to us in this song that her breasts are small and humble so we don't confuse them with the mountains. weRHyjj34ZE
July 12, 201113 yr Author 06 - Destiny's Child "Lose My Breath" (2004) (+58) It was 2004 and DC had a comeback, but they went to number 2 for 4 weeks, being stopped by Eminem, U2 and Girls Aloud. They had a follow up 'Girl' afterwards but then they disappeared as a group - Beyonce and Kelly Rowland would continue their solo careers and no-one knows what happened to the other girl. AqeIiF0DlTg

Gorillaz or Rihanna for the win. Or Adele. Or Take That. Or Daft Punk. I don't mind, they're all good songs. But Gorillaz and Rihanna got my 15 and 12, so I'm rooting for them.

AqeIiF0DlTg the follow up was actually 'soldier', the other girl went on to perform on broadway, the west end in 'Chicago', released a flop album, and appeared on strictly come dancing!
July 12, 201113 yr Author the follow up was actually 'soldier', the other girl went on to perform on broadway, the west end in 'Chicago', released a flop album, and appeared on strictly come dancing! Oh :hithead: I now remember. It's just that when I go to chartstats I look on the Destiny's Child page, where 'Girl' comes after 'Lose My Breath'. I forgot to look on the Destiny's Child/Ti/Lil Wayne page (chartstats annoys me like that sometimes but it's really useful)
July 12, 201113 yr Author 05 - Daft Punk "One More Time" (2000) (+75) The biggest and most remembered Daft Punk hit was this right here. Unfortunately it missed number one thanks to Leann Rimes, whose single 'Can't Fight The Moonlight' was released the same week as DP. There were 13 new entries in the T40 that week, many of them were in the T10 causing last weeks number one going 1-8. After this hit, Daft Punk never got a T10 single again - but they helped Kanye West get his only solo number one. FGBhQbmPwH8
July 12, 201113 yr Author 04 - Rihanna "Unfaithful" (2006) (+77) The third number two scored by Rihanna was this beautiful ballad. On two non-consecutive weeks this was number two, the first time it was stopped by non-number one band McFly and the second - Shakira's mega-hit. "Unfaithful" recently re-entered the Top 40 after the girl herself duetted with Matt Cardle on The X Factor. rp4UwPZfRis ____ OK peoples, here is the exciting part. Anyone could be number one on the countdown but will it be Take That's 'Rule The World', Gorillaz's 'Feel Good Inc.' or ADELE's 'Rolling In The Deep'. The number one will be posted sometime today :yahoo:
July 12, 201113 yr Love both of those  Great top 3 but I'd love Rule The World to triumph, although the other two are classic #2's as well!
July 12, 201113 yr Definitely a great top 3. Good position for Unfaithful too , (I agree with what Eric posted earlier in the thread) First to say it, but we have a 2/3 chance of a male act winning :o (I haven't followed the other series in the Ultimate line properly, but that's got to be unusual), and either of those would be a brilliant winner (although I wouldn't mind Adele either). Gorillaz for the win. :D Edited July 12, 201113 yr by Eyes
