The thing is a video for SFTTR would easily close that gap. So we just waiting for a video, Monday would be perfect, but will it actually happen?

I am starting to doubt there will be a video at all -_-

If Set Fire to the Rain gets released in the US, I'm 100% sure there'll be a music video, but it will obviously be released to coincide with their release, not ours.

Agreed!

Glad to see Rizzle Kicks finally taking off - I don't agree that it's generic, it's got a great sample, I love the trumpets hook and it's very summery, feelgood and anthemic. The feel of it sort of reminds me of Roll Deep's The Avenue.

I agree, but I don't think I've heard anyone say it's generic.

That would really annoy me. Its one of my favourite songs of all time, and i know they're probably so impressed with it doing so well already (to get to #12 off an album selling 2,650,000+ copies is incredible, but i really want a video to go with it, i think they could make such an amazing video.

Its like Eric said, maybe they're just waiting for US {RITD #8} (& Canada {RITD #7} & Australia {SLY #1, RITD #4, SFTTR #39} - where RITD & SLY are still doing incredibly well) to be ready for it too, but thing is they're behind, and UK & most of Europe are ready for a video for SFTTR right now!

{numbers in these brackets refer to iTunes positions atm}

Austria - SFTTR #11

Belgium - SFTTR #4

Switzerland - SFTTR #5

Germany - SFTTR #9

Denmark - SFTTR #6 (RITD #32)

Italy - SFTTR #9 (RITD #33)

Netherlands - SFTTR #16 (SLY #6 & RITD #25)

Sweden - SFTTR #22 (RITD #3)

Norway - SFTTR #21 (RITD #8)

France - RITD #10 & SLY #26

Spain - RITD #10 & SLY #39

(^no SFTTR top 100 yet)

Hopefully we'll get a video soon! I'd love an X Factor performance of Set Fire To The Rain  That would be epic. I think if they have her on they'll get her to do a few performances not just one, they may even have an Adele special seeing as this has really been her year, not just UK, Worldwide! :o

^ You seem to keep forgetting that Set Fire to the Rain got released in a lot of countries in Europe as the 2nd single, and peaked months ago.

And in Australia and New Zealand, Someone Like You only just got to #1, so they don't need a video urgently.

Whatever they release in the US next, I think it'll be another #1. They love her there, probably even more than in the UK!

Imagine an Adele special on the X Factor! :o Would that be the first time the whole top 10 would be occupied by one artist?

I do really want Adele in the top 10 so much though. There's SEVEN club bangers in the top 10 at the moment. :puke: I really appreciate artists like Adele and Beyonce at the moment. They're the only ones offering something different.

It's extremely generic. Not necessarily musically (but I think the trumpets are just a gimmick anyway - 'hey look, we're using trumpets on our first single, aren't we so DIFFERENT') but lyrically at least. The entire second verse is 'I can dance so well I'm going to steal your girlfriend' said 3 times.

It's not exactly bad, it's just very subpar and sounds like every other 2009 UK urban song with some trumpets added in so it's bizarre to see it being praised so highly here.

Bray did somewhere...

He mentioned that with this and Loick Essien doing well that perhaps 'generic UK urban' was the next big thing. I see his point with Loick but Down With The Trumpets is a lot more standout and interesting imo. I know my ears perked up first time I heard it (which was on the radio, shock horror :o)

I actually said 'average UK urban' and said DWTT was generic elsewhere :P But I fully stand by what I said.

I agree lyrically, but even without the trumpets I wouldn't say it's generic (and songs other songs with brass instruments in atm, such as Last Friday Night, The Edge of Glory, and Mr. Saxobeat are generic, so it's not just because of the trumpets I think that). It just sounds different to everything else at the moment.

It's all subjective. I find loads of the huge UK urban hits from the past couple of years extremely generic and so 'average urban' doing well is certainly nothing new! Taio Cruz, Jay Sean, McLean, some of the singles by Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder - yawn. I admire the likes of Tinie Tempah for bringing something fresh to the genre/mainstream but even some of his latest tracks are watered down and uninteresting compared to the likes of Pass Out and Simply Unstoppable.

I agree there. McLean's song from last year was the most generic thing I ever heard. Seriously. :puke:

I agree about Tinie aswell. Although a song like Love Suicide, for example, isn't "average UK urban", it's "average US urban".

I'm not saying all of the 2009/10 UK urban hits were good or non-generic - for example 'My Name' was a complete yawnfest, the three Roll Deep songs were very subpar (I realise you strongly disagree with me on this as well ), 'Until You Were Gone' just sounded like a poor rehash of Chipmunk's previous singles...

I just hope if UK urban does come back into prominence it's songs which don't just sound plucked straight out of 2009 that are doing well. Down With The Trumpets, How We Roll and Spaceship don't fit that description (although I do actually really like the latter of those three, so it's not all average). Tinie Tempah, as you said, continued the UK urban sound and developed it a bit. I also feel Chipmunk's 'Champion' was an evolution from the I Am Chipmunk era (but he ruined it all with 'In The Air' sounding like another 2009 song).

I don't really want chart music to revert straight back into 2009. Something needs to break the US club banger domination but a return to the music scene of 2 years wouldn't be great. I'd like if dubstep could finally live up to its commercial potential. It's still only produced a few hits of any note.

I wouldn't even call Chipmunk UK urban anyway (although I know he is technically), but honestly, Until You Were Gone was practically a pop song, and Champion sounds close to US RnB than UK hip hop (rapping aside). Chipmunk is very hated because of his songs (especially Until You Were Gone). You obviously won't find him discussed much on Buzzjack, but go on some Youtube pages about him, and see the opinions of other UK urban fans of him.

Go on the pages for Pow 2011 or Game Over for example, because the fans of all the other rappers in the songs go there too.

But anyway, to sum up, I wouldn't bring up Chipmunk in this discussion about UK urban songs.

And Green Light is AMAZING! Okay yes, it beat Eminem to #1 and had a poor chart run, which was a bit unfair, but putting that aside, it's a brilliant song imo!!

2009-era UK urban was essentially pop though.

And I know Champion was very American-sounding but any evolution of UK urban is better than none and How We Roll/Down With The Trumpets/Spaceship are definitely 'no evolution' AFAIC.

 21. Up All Night - Blink-182

 22. Down With the Trumpets - Rizzle Kicks

Heehee. Up All Night is going up and Down With The Trumpets is going down. Random coincidences, woo.

To be honest aswell, I don't really mind if we get Chipmunk and Tinie Tempah doing American sounding urban songs, because honestly, the American rappers aren't giving us any of that atm...

I thought this was sarcasm at first knowing you but that's a good point - if the Americans are all jumping ship to European-sounding songs why not let the Brits take over US urban?

Green Light was one of my top five favourite songs of last year full stop. That bassline was incredible, and the generic party lyrics and female chorus were somehow far more endearing than most. I learnt every word of every rap

Exactly. Snoop Dogg and Chris Brown's biggest hits of the year are basically europop. They should be releasing single produced by Dr. Dre and Timbaland, not David Guetta and Benny Benassi!?!? WTF? They're good songs though, but it pisses me off tbh.

Even Nicole Scherzinger. Have you heard what her next single sounds like? :o I remember when she used to do songs like When I Grow Up and Beep. :(

At least Nicole has released one US Urban sounding song 'Right There' - that's more than most American females have done (the only other US Urban female song I can think of is 'E.T.' which is only remotely urban and more pop) :(
