Her album has gone #1 in the US, as did Hold It Against Me, and then Till the Worlds Ends got to #3, but was even bigger, and I Wanna Go is looking to be a 3rd top 10 hit for her now.

The problem isn't the songs. It's our close-minded country that's the problem.

Britney is still relevant in the US as she is selling off the back of her previous massive eras. In the UK Britney is known for 'Baby One More Time' and her mental breakdown... at the end of the day people only buy what the radio feeds them. :(

And btw - I also hate The Lazy Song :cheer:

Back when Britney kept on getting top 10s and #1s here, she dropped quite a bit in US (the period of Me Against The Music) when her songs don't chart but after mental breakdown, she lost the popularity in the UK but gained on it in the US, how weird lol.
Rolling in the Deep is up for quite a few VMA's this year! :D :D :D

lol.

To be fair, the video isn't even that good -_- as much as I like the song....

I also fail to see how Love The Way You Lie wasn't nominated for Video Of The Year or Best Collaboration Video when it was highly praised...

Great to see Snow Patrol climbing! I heard it on Fearne Cotton when she said Zane Lowe will be playing their new track tonight (iirc) :o
Yes i'm not talking about US. She's doing well in US because 1. Her crazy fanbase over there which will buy ANYTHING she releases. 2. They give her a lot of support as she is one of the biggest American artists.

"It's our close-minded country that's the problem"

Sorry eric but thats ridiculous, so many people are doing exactly what Britney is doing now in music - auto-tune/club music with little depth or meaning, people are just BORED. Also there are people out there doing it BETTER then Britney. The UK Have basically just moved on..

People clearly aren't bored, because there's 25 Britney Spears songs in our current top 40. She Makes Me Wanna will probably be #1 next week, but that's such a poor song compared to Till the World Ends imo.

Our country is close-minded really. Songs with guitars in can't become hits anymore, unless Rihanna sings the chorus.

And we haven't moved on from club songs with no meaning. It's actually worse than ever atm. We're moving IN to it more and more. I was reading in another thread, the songs with the most longevity in the top 10 so far this year are Party Rock Anthem and Give Me Everything.

I can't quite understand how Till the Word Ends is more trashy than, say Dirty Dancer?

You're right its a very, very simple video, not much too it, but i think I like it for that reason, the song is so great doesnt need to be overshadowed by the video. In all honestly i think if the song wasnt as huge as it has been and if Adele wasnt as successful the video would of gone un-noticed.

Its not, who said it wasnt? That hasnt done well either, only got higher recently due to being reduced in price.

Eric people are CLEARLY bored when she hasnt had a real hit from this era and her album was such a huge flop, there is no denying people are bored and her fanbse is non-existant in the UK right now.

I didnt say we had moved on from club songs  People have moved on from Britney, fan or not a fan, that is the case in the UK.

It's not much of a surprise that Rolling in the Deep is up for a lot of awards tbh. They love that song in the US! The song is way more popular there than it is here.

I agree 'Dirty Dancer' is by far the most trashy song in the charts atm (excluding 'Don't Wanna Go Home') but what makes TTWE "trashy" is the generic lyrics, the 'oh oh oh's and boring club beat. At least PRA and GME have some rapping, a proper chorus and a great beat (truly amazing in the case of Party Rock Anthem, but that's just opinion) ;)

I think club music is peaking now and this time next year we will have moved on. People will be starting to get bored of it soon and move on to indie, dubstep or europop by 2013. Of course there'll still be club-bangers but it won't be as dominant (I could be wrong)

Still doesn't deserve Video Of The Year nomination though.

The song is MASSIVELY popular here, it was the lead single to probably what will become the biggest selling album of all time in UK. I dont think we can really make that statement. Its huge over there too obviously, biggest selling song of the year over there. ^_^

MTV VMA is meant to nominate best videos not the best songs of the year.... shows the show is getting more and more irrelevant.

I've never denied she has a small fanbase here. Infact, in the post that started all this off I said:

I agree. She's just not that popular here anymore. :(

Although she still has some great songs. I love Till the World Ends. So epic, especially in the chorus! :o

But people aren't bored of Britney's music. If they are, why are songs like Give Me Everything shaping out to be potential million-sellers? That's not a whole lot different to Till the World Ends. Britney isn't doing well because our country is too snobbish to promote her anymore.

Eric not sure where you're getting the statement 'people are bored of Britneys music' from? People are bored of BRITNEY.

Also Give Me Everything is a bad example because 1. It has a great singer singing the chorus (Ne-Yo) which Britney is not. 2. 50% of the song is rap which Britneys is not.

I think in the UK, people just don't want anything to do with Britney and her music anymore as they're bored of her.

No matter how good the material Britney releases, the UK public just refuse to listen/buy her music because simply it's Britney.

Well it's just my opinion on this matter.

Really? :o

Really? :o

I really think it can Spiidey. I think the biggest selling album of all time in UK is 5-6 million? I think 21 will definitely get there in a few years, imagine if it can get 4million by mid 2012 it'll hit 5million i'm sure in the long run. Its still selling at full price as well, imagine when the price is reduced too! :o I think it'll stay in the top 40 for years, honestly.

Okay fine. Well, if Inna had released Till the World Ends it would've probably gone top 20. :( It's such a good song.

Although I don't think that many people buy based off the artists anyway, because then why is Loick Essien top 10 still? The only reason he can be up there is because people like his song (and the song actually got promotion ).

Old people hate Britney though, and ultimately it's them that decide whether she gets played on radio. This old lady came over for a meal the other day, and my mum was talking about problems she has with my little sister, and then the old lady was all like "It's horrible what Britney Spears has done to young girls isn't is?", and then went on a massive rampage about how she's taught girls to wear tight clothing and stuff. I think a lot of people hate Britney for that reason tbh. But I think in the US people encourage that, whilst in the UK we're still living in the 1950's where girls are expected to wear crinolines.
