This is why I said 'proper' ballad.

Yeah, it probably is Bleeding Love. Over 3 years! Although even BL is more of an R&B ballad than a 'traditional' one really.

Isn't Rihanna's Take A Bow released after Bleeding Love? If so, that would be the last ballad #1 until Someone Like You.

And yes.... Take A Bow is definitely a ballad..

If you don't want to count R&B ballads (Take a Bow, before that Bleeding Love, before that No One, before that Big Girls Don't Cry), you need to go back to Hey There Delilah in June 2007.
A ballad is a ballad though, whether if it's a pop ballad, soul ballad or a R&B ballad...

Well, it's probably been over a decade since a ballad with no RnB influences got to #1 in the US tbh. But then you could say Someone Like You has urban influences aswell. People say Adele is a soul artist. Someone Like You also has a similar tempo that RnB songs are supposed to have, but it's missing the percussion, so I wouldn't say it's RnB.

I'm sure Rolling In The Deep was released earlier on US...I'm not quite sure but I think I purchased it from US iTunes late November or December.

Yes. It was released late 2010 in the US (and most other countries). I remember, especially when it was hovering around #50 on iTunes, and people were like "It's such a shame the US can't appreciate talent like Adele" and "Her music was never going to do well, she's too good".

Wouldn't the last proper ballad be Take a Bow? It was the week after Bleeding Love.

I did think Take a Bow, but I remember discussing whether that song was a ballad before on here, and some people disagreed (they say it's a "slow jam" or "mid-tempo", although I'm sure those are parts of the definition of a ballad ).

I was also thinking Bruno Mars's songs, Just the Way You Are and Grenade (although again, didn't think everyone would agree, so I didn't mention them). Also, if you want to include songs with rapping, Love the Way You Lie and E.T., but, again, I didn't, because too many people would disagree. I remember having a massive discussion on here once about whether E.T. is actually a ballad or not.

E.T a ballad? With beats like that? A BALLAD? :???:

Love The Way You Lie would be a ballad without Eminem's parts in it :P

LTWYL is a little iffy, but LTWYL pt II definitely, even with Eminem.

Yeah, the beat is the main reason why it's so debateable. It's rather loud and, I guess, ferocious for a ballad.

It depends what you define as a ballad. Some people say a ballad is just a love song with a slow tempo, in which case E.T. applies, since it's very slow, and is a love song, as does LTWYL. And the BBC and MTV have referred to E.T. as a ballad before.

But I can understand why people wouldn't call it a ballad. But it seems there are grounds to consider E.T. one.

I hope Lady Antebellum drop out of the top 10 ASAP, and it seems Foster the People is falling now.

Leona :(

Considering 'Collide' hasn't even been sent to radio in America yet (I doubt it ever will, it's probably just a buzz single), she's done brilliantly.

Leona has 0 buzz around her in the states though, ever since she flopped with Happy in the US :(
I can't see Leona having great success in America again unless she gets the best promotion you could ask for. (Airplay) X factor, American Idol performances etc.
Party Rock Anthem up to #4. :drama:

It was about to fall out of the top 10 earlier.

Why is it back up AGAIN? -_-
