Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts

(Thanks to Gavin Ryan)

Singles

Four weeks striding both ARIA charts for Adele, as her single "Someone Like You" retains it's No.1 hold with “21” staying on the album charts for a tenth week, whilst "Rolling in the Deep" also maintains it's No.4 position, plus she scores a third Top 50 entry this week as her third official single from "21" entitled "Set Fire to the Rain" leaps up twenty-five places to land at No.50. Also this song was also helped up the charts by Australia's Got Talent contestant Jack Vidgen performing it on this weeks finals show.

The Top 5 singles all remain within the Top 5, with only two changes this week. Christina Perri climbs to a new peak of No.2 with "Jar of Hearts", pushing the former No.1 "Party Rock Anthem" for LMFAO down to No.3, and Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" holds at No.5 for a second week. All slipping down one place each this week are "Last Friday Night (TGIF)" for Katy Perry to No.7, "Don't Wanna Go Home" for Jason DeRulo to No.8 and "Marry You" for Bruno Mars drops to No.9.

Two songs leaps into the Top 10 this week, firstly up twenty-six places to No.10 from their debut last week of No.36 is Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera with "Moves Like Jagger", their first Top 10 entries since Jan.2008 (Won’t Go Home Without You) and April 2007 (Candyman) respectively. But the main Top 10 jumper is Lady GaGa's third single from "Born This Way"; "The Edge of Glory", which leaps up sixteen places to a new peak of No.6, surpassing its original debut and peak position of No.11 (it's been down as low as No.38). Her extraordinary media blitz, secret performances and main one-off show where the catalyst for her extraordinary week, plus "Edge of Glory" is being used as the new theme for the 'Chrome' TV commercials.

GaGa REPORT (cont.): "Born This Way" the single leaps back up twenty-four places to land back in the Top 20 at No.18 this week, but in the lower half of the T100, we see four older tracks move up or re-enter the charts. "Judas" climbs back up six places to No.55, and re-entering we have "Poker Face" at No.79 (now at 105 weeks in the Top 100), "Bad Romance" at No.84, her first single "Just Dance" at No.91 and lastly back in at No.94 is "Telephone", her duet with Beyonce.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Nicki Minaj moves her "Super Bass" up a couple of places to No.11, pushing LMFAO's "Champagne Showers" down a place to No.12 (could this be another No.11 follow-up to a big No.1 like in the past). "Lighters" for Bad Meets Evil featuring Bruno Mars re-peaks at No.19, and halving its position from last week (a No.40 debut) is Nicole Scherzinger and 50 Cent on her new track "Right There", now at No.20, and sounding very Rihanna in my opinion.

Beyonce returns to her No.25 peak with "Best Thing I Never Had", and Chris Brown and Justin Bieber climb five places to a new peak of No.29 with their duet "Next 2 You". Calvin Harris has NEVER (in Australia) had a Top 30 hit, but this week he climbs to No.30 with "Bounce" featuring Kelis. Pete Murray is up eight places to land inside the Top 40 at No.38 with his new track "Always a Winner", and lastly "Snoop Dogg's "Boom" and LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know it" are both up three places to No.44 and No.45 respectively.

Wouter de Backer is better known to Australian audiences as the ARIA Award winning artist Gotye, and this Melbourne based act lands his second Top 100 chart entry and first Top 50 hit by scoring the highest new entry of the week at No.27, "Somebody That I Use to Know", featuring guest vocalist Kimbra. This new track is taken from his forthcoming third album "Making Mirrors" (no date known as yet), and his previous singles chart entry was "Eyes Wide Open" which reached No.55 in November of 2010.

Lower 50: After falling dramatically three weeks ago, Pitbull and Marc Anthony's "Rain Over Me" is back up twenty-five places to No.54 this week. Up ten places to No.57 is the new one for Lupe Fiasco "Out of My Head". And Panic at the Disco dance up twenty-three places to No.70 with their new single "Ready to Go".

Romanian singer Alexandra Stan enters at No.56 with her first single, the dance number "Mr. Saxobeat". It has already been No.1 in eight countries around the world so far such as Romania, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Slovakia and Austria. Whilst it has reached the Top 5 in most European countries, it has only reached No.25 in Canada, and No.109 in the US (so far).

Canadian six-piece These Kids Wear Crowns enter at No.64 with their second single (first here), "Jumpstart", which so far has reached No.44 in their home country, and is taken from second album, also entitled "Jumpstart".

The Foo Fighters lift a second single from their "Wasting Light" album (TW-11) entitled "Walk", which enters the ARIA Top 100 Singles Chart at No.72. The first taste here of Lil' Wayne's forthcoming ninth studio album "Tha Carter IV" (due August 2011) debuts at No.76 entitled "How to Love". It's Wayne's seventeenth single to hit our charts, and he is currently guest vocalist on three other songs, No.49 on Enrique’s “Dirty Dancer”, No.80 with Chris Brown on “Look at Me Now” and at No.100 with J Lo on “I’m Into You”.

Along with all of the Lady GaGa re-entries this week, there are two recent entries that return to the lower Top 100, with "Talk Talk Talk" for Darren Hayes back in at No.86, and Bad Meets Evil's first single "Fast Lane" is back in at No.88. The last two new entries for the week come from Selena Gomez & The Scene at No.95 with "Love You Like a Love Song", and new material from Perth's Eskimo Joe sneaks in at No.98 entitled "Love is a Drug", their eleventh chart entry, and first new material from their August due fifth album “Ghosts from the Past”.

Albums

Adele now has amassed Ten weeks at No.1 here in Australia with her "21" album, plus she also moves up three places to a new peak of No.3 with her first album "19", giving her two of the Top 3 albums in the country. Michael Jackson's passing in July 2009 was the last time a solo act had so many albums close to the top of the charts, and P!nk was the last female act back in June 2009 to have two albums inside the Top 10, "Funhouse" was at No.3 and "I'm Not Dead" at No.8.

“21” now becomes one of eight albums to have amassed ten (only) weeks at the top, the last such album was back in 1996 with Crowded House’s “Recurring Dream - Best of” set, and the album now becomes the second longest running No.1 this decade behind P!nk’s “Greatest Hits… So Far” which clocked up thirteen weeks, putting Eminem’s “Recovery” album into third place with nine weeks at the top.

In between the two Adele albums is the woman-of-the-week here in Australia, as her blitz of this country was huge (as you can see by the singles chart above), her album "Born This Way" jumps back up three places to land back at No.2 this week. In fact all three of her albums are within the Top 40 this week, as "The Fame" rises thirteen places to No.31, and "The Fame Monster" leaps back up fifty-eight places to score the No.34 position this week. Not to be outdone, the other new woman on the music scene at the moment, Christina Perri, leaps sixty places to No.5 with her debut album "lovestrong', which this week has the new No.2 single in the country "Jar of Hearts".

In amongst the girls of the Top 5, is LMFAO's "Sorry for Party Rocking" album which drops back two places to No.4 this week. "4" for Beyonce is also down two places, to No.6 this week, whilst Bruno Mars holds at No.7 with his "Doo-Wops and Hooligans" set. Hillsong's "God is Able" is down five places to No.8 and Bad Meets Evil's "Hell: The Sequel" falls only one place to No.9.

The first new material in almost two years from local country singer Adam Harvey scores the highest new entry of the week, plus it also gives Adam his first Top 10 album on the ARIA Album Charts. "Falling into Place" debuts at No.10, and is his ninth studio album, whilst his full chart history is listed below...

MOVERS AND NEW PEAKS: Rockhampton group Busby Marou debuted at a modest No.71 last week (No.31 on download sales), and this week their self titled album leaps forty-seven places to No.25. Both Foo Fighters current charting albums are up this week, with "Wasting Light" climbing back up five places to No.11, and their "Greatest Hits" set rebounds back up forty-two places to No.25 this week. Nicki Minaj is up five places to a new peak of No.43 with her “Pink Friday” album, and just missing out on the Top 50 this week, jumping back up twenty-five places to No.51 is Rise Against and their latest album "Endgame".

New albums in the lower part of the Top 100 are mainly soundtrack sets. "Offspring: Volume 2" from the Channel Ten show debuts at No.54, the Jersey Boys cast recording is back up twenty-one places to No.57, the "Burlesque" soundtrack rebounds twenty-nine places to No.59. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" soundtrack enters at No.67, as the entire country goes Harry Potter mad (for the seventh time {it wasn't as mad the first time IMO}), plus it’s only the third Potter soundtrack to chart here, with the first one “The Philosopher’s Stone” (HP-40, Dec 2001) and third film “Prisoner of Azkaban” (HP-81, June 2004) having previously charted. And lastly Channel Seven's "Winners & Losers" soundtrack enters at No.79.

Debuting is London DJ Aaron Jerome who goes by the name SBTRKT (subtract), and his debut self-titled album which enters at No.69. Local singer Abbe May enters at No.78 with her debut album "Design Desire". And lastly, Southend-on-Sea, England natives The Horrors debut at No.83 with their third album (first here) “Skying”.
