Looking back it doesn't look like much of a dip but having lived through it he was failing badly and it was a very public failing. He was all over the place and his antics were enhancing the feeling of someone who was going down the pan. The turn around was more more dramatic than it looks from this point.

Correct. He was expected to have a successful solo career but it was rapidly tanking. Then along came Angels and - even though it got no higher than number four - he became hugely successful. I hadn't heard the album when I saw him live (it had been released at the start of that week) but Angels was clearly one of the highlights of the night.

The most entertaining moment was when he played Back For Good. The teenage girls in the audience got terribly excited until he delivered the chorus in a punky style. Then they just looked bewildered

Just to add to the Robbie discussion, the original chart run for Life Thru A Lens was 11-25-49-73. That's pretty poor for a member of one of the biggest bands of their time. It took three months (following the release of Angels) for it to make the top ten and it finally got to number one six months after release.
I don't think Leona's in such a position that her career needs turning around, however this next album for her is crucial for keeping her foothold in the industry.

In the UK her career is fine but Echo under performed a lot in the rest of the world... Or is this thread only about UK performance?? ;)

Oh this brings me memories from Roskilde, I think it was 2001, and he didn't say any nice things about ex-bandmates.. How far things have come. Glad that everybody's grown up as Take That are better than ever and Robbie has evolved as an artist.

Sugababes didn't do well with their first album. Made a huge turnaround. By album 6 and 7, they are back to flopping again. Could album 8 be the lucky number?
