So, following the roaring success of Beady Eye, Noel makes his first solo outing. Tracklisting as follows:

1. Everybody's on the Run

2. Dream On

3. If I Had a Gun

4. The Death of You and Me

5. (I Wanna Live in a Dream in My) Record Machine

6. AKA... What a Life!

7. Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks

8. AKA... Broken Arrow

9. (Stranded On) The Wrong Beach

10. Stop the Clocks

Yes, you did read "Stop the Clocks". Plus one song that inexplicably didn't make "Dig Out Your Soul", and two he wrote and used during Oasis' last few soundchecks. I really, really hope this is good. First single "The Death of You and Me" out 21st of August.

Looking forward to that then! I was a bit underwhelmed by "Stop the Clocks" when I first heard it but adored "...Record Machine", not listened to it in ages though.

Noel Gallagher - The Death Of You And Me

Edited by Thomsen

I already prefer this much more than Beady Eye's stuff. The Death of You and Me sounds a bit like The Importance of Being Idle at the beginning especially. Love the video though.

Like it. "I can feel the storm clouds sucking up my soul" is a great lyric, very Noel and I can see the album doing really well.

His first US single will be "If I Had A Gun", however single #2 over here (and presumably the lead coming before the album a week or two later) is "AKA... What A Life!". It's currently being used for a TV ad, clip here:

I'm properly looking forward to hearing this in full, it's boosted my excitement for the album as well now we know it's not all going to be as retro-sounding as TDOYAM. Woop.

I like the parping horns on the single. I can't see this being anything better than average though.
I like the single. As has been mentioned it is like a sister track to ...Being Idle which is easily the best thing Oasis did in years for me

If I Had A Gun:

Very Noel-by-numbers, would be a very solid album track but both his UK singles are far better than this.

AKA... What A Life! in full:

Should be another middling hit for him. I hope he has the sense to release "Record Machine" over Christmas and "Stop the Clocks" in the new year, his album sales could be really big then. Should do well enough anyway, I'm really looking forward to it now.

'AKA... What a Life' is just incredible - the vocals and instrumental pieces are flawless. Ideally, this'd be a T10 hit for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - but I think it should at least go T40. Only problem is there's no video to support it yet.
I'm not a fan of Noel, but 'AKA...What A Life' is pretty good, it reminds me of 'Falling Down' by Oasis, which is by no means a bad thing. :D
I do quite like "..What A Life" actually - it's nothing exceptional but it is better than the first single. "The Death of You and Me" was so similar to "The Importance of Being Idle" that in the end it just made me want to listen to that (far superior single) instead.

Russell Brand apparently stars in the "AKA... What A Life!" video. Cannot wait, word is that he might release "If I Had A Gun" here as well before the album drops.

Exciting :o

Liking everything I've heard from this so far. Hope the album doesn't disappoint

Why was AKA... What A Life! released only 3 weeks after The Death Of You And Me?

It was On Air/On Sale after a held back release, and as it was on an advert it makes sense to have it available to buy when the advert is showing.

Noel songs seem to come from everywhere!

uk singles, us single, high quality b sides, non album track, previews etc!!!

and the most important?

all that stuff is really great.

seems that we are gonna have the best collection of Noel songs since "definitely maybe" or "Morning glory"!!!

i absolutely love "the death of you and me" with its americana melanhcholic feeling.

"if i had a gun" is an epic track full of emotion and beauty.classic.

"what a life" could be a madonna's comeback single(!) and that s a compliment!

check non album track "Alone on the Rope"

or b side :"Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me"

and that little gem (b side) I'd Pick You Every Time

i d pick you everytime

great stuff.i cant wait to hear the album
