Posted July 24, 201114 yr From the OCC... 1 Back To Bedlam – James Blunt (3,239,713 sales) 2 No Angel – Dido (3,062,777) 3 Spirit – Leona Lewis (3,034,653)** 4 White Ladder – David Gray (2,940,575) 5 1 – The Beatles (2,898,235) 6 Life For Rent – Dido (2,866,350) 7 Beautiful World – Take That (2,820,079) 8 A Rush Of Blood To The Head – Coldplay (2,768,947) 9 21 - Adele (2,764,356) 10 Hopes And Fears – Keane (2,761,649)Incredible! Really, really ecstatic for her. I personally wished it was 'Echo' but meh. It's still my favourite album (from what I've heard) in the top 10 :D **A notable absentee from the list is Back To Black, the second album by Amy Winehouse, who died tragically on Saturday at the age of 27. For OCC purposes, the album’s sales are split between the original (2,262,399) and deluxe double disc version (824,764), with a further 5,035 sales from the Back To Black/Frank double disc set. Overall sales of 3,092,198 would place the album second on the list above. I honestly don't know why they decided to include the deluxe sales of 'Spirit' but not for 'Back to Black'. Is it down to the fact 'Spirit' only had 3 new tracks as opposed to Amy's 8 new tracks?
July 26, 201114 yr I don't think so, because "Bright Lights" and "The Fame Monster" both had 7 or 8 songs added.
July 27, 201114 yr It's to do with differing chart rules back in 2008. The OCC wanted (initially) to stop record companies doing deluxe albums as it was unfair on new albums- they thought that tagging more than 20% of new material onto a new album would be discouraged by that album then charting seperately (less kudos if the new version didn't make no 1 like it's predecessor etc) but that didn't really happen. Then in 09 they changed their mind over the 80% rule and decided that they could include pretty much anything on the new deluxe albums. Hence lady gaga fine. Lewis also got her scombined because the new material was less than 20% but Winehouse fell foul because, as you note, it must have breached that limit...
July 28, 201114 yr I think they've starting combining them from this week on; in the Tuesday mids, Amy had both versions of BTB in the top ten, but as of Wednesday they were combined. I assume total sales will then be combined.
