Don't you just love it when someone completely ignores what you say and simply repeats what about twenty other people have said?

Alanis, Jewel possibly...

One of the least influential bands of stature are Manic Street Preachers. Cant say I've heard their influence anywhere.
Rebecca Black is one of the most influential artists..She has influencing many talentless boys and girls in America who they want to be popular..

Britney was doing this a long time before Rebecca

Well Westlife have probably had the most #1 singles in that period but i doubt anyone whould say they were the most influential lol

hehehe, good point but Britney has already a big career. I don't think that only her appearance is the most important thing to her. Jessica Simpson is prettier than her but she hasn't the same success. Britney has powerful pop songs! Some of them are amazing. Her videos also are very good. So, many facts helped her to be bigger as she is..

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Prince yet, certainly in the 80s and the early 90s he was one of the most influential musicians on the planet. Similarly, I would argue R. Kelly is much more influential in male R&B than Usher or any of the others mentioned (Taio Cruz??). And I don't think there has been many more influential on the pop scene in the last ten years or so than Timbaland has been in his producer role, not so much the Shock Value trilogy.

Outkast in particular paved the way for a wave of "alternative hip hop" acts who have somewhat taken over the scene, from Drake to Kanye to B.o.B.

Your point about Timbaland's production is very valid, I'd say that on the same logic Pharrell is far more influential than some of the artists mentioned here. RedOne probably will be soon as well.

They have all been successful but how many of them can be called influential? How many successful artists cite Lady GaGa as an influence? Or Britney Spears?

To take an earlier example, I am a big fan of Manic Street Preachers but I would struggle to name any acts who have been influenced by them in a big way.

Prince has definitely earned a mention. Most of the work that influenced a lot of the last twenty years was done before they began, but you can see huge amounts of influence in the work of Timbaland and the Neptunes which were hugely prominent between the late 90s and the late 00s...

Has anyone mentioned Aaliyah yet?

Robbie Williams

Jennifer Lopez

Pet Shop Boys

Roxette

Elton John

I really dont hear their influence anywhere. Could you elaborate?
