And Dana is no longer last :( although she is still heading for elimination in the first round. I think it's safe to assume Norris won't be getting many of her second preference votes.

Yes get those votes Dana!

Actually, looking at it again, McGuinness looks likely to be eliminated in the second round as well. That leaves just Higgins and Gallagher with Gallagher having a lot of ground to make up.

With five constituencies to go, my calculations say that McGuinness will indeed be eliminated. Higgins has an almost unassailable lead.

A question for Irish members - is it Michael (English pronunciation) or Mi-hall?

Norris was eliminated. He polled quite well in all of Dublin and the East, and then his vote diminished in most of the rural areas. :(

Dublin-West elected Labour. A full recount was issued because the Socialist Party were only behind Fianna Fail by 12 votes or something. Turns out they got the exact same amount and then SP were eliminated. I think this is the first time a Government party has won a by-election?

It's quite nice to see Ireland turning red. Took a while. :kink:

I've never heard Higgins addressed as Mi-hall. It's always been Michael, I think!

That makes it easier for us

They've just called him Michael on the BBC News and they generally try to get the pronunciation right.

I think Mi-hall is spelt like Micheál. But I'm not quite sure.

Mitchell and McGuinness eliminated. There's now over 400,000 votes to be transferred to Higgins and Gallagher. :o Higgins is on 793,128, and the quota is 885,882, so he should get it soon. :D
