Posted August 6, 201113 yr Joe's second album is due for release on 22 August (Same day as Will Young's! ) It is a mix of classic songs and also some classical arias. This is the track listing. Canto Della Terra She Was Beautiful (featuring Milos - classical guitarist) Over The Rainbow - I don't like this song. I Dreamed A Dream Time To Say Goodbye Il Mio Cuore Va (My Heart Will Go On) Hear My Prayer (Nessun Dorma) Solitaire Dance With My Father Va Pensiero To Where You Are Nessun Dorma (Original Italian Version) Here is the cover picture which makes him look much older. Not a bad thing though. Classic - Joe Edited December 21, 201113 yr by Compton
August 6, 201113 yr So hes trying again and cashing in on his Popstar To Opera Star fame. Good idea actually. It should do quite well, as artists who produce this sort of music normally sell quite well, as they are album artists.
August 6, 201113 yr Err, what? Why didn't I know he has a second album out soon until this thread? And in few weeks time?
August 6, 201113 yr Author FM11, perhaps you didn't see anything about Popstar to Operastar which Joe won hands down with over 50% of the votes each week and over 77% in the final against Cheryl Baker (of Buck's Fizz fame). Fair enough - there are lots of singers I know nothing about. I have never heard Justin Bieber, rarely heard Lady Gaga etc etc. Anyway Joe has a great operatic voice - not just my opinion but that of Rolando Villazon who thinks he should train as an opera/classical singer.
August 6, 201113 yr I can't believe he is back after flopping big time with his first album. I doubt he will do a great deal better to be honest, he just doesnt have much appeal in my opinion.
August 7, 201113 yr Author I am glad you put "in my opinion". Lots of people don't. How about giving him a chance, poor lad? He was very badly served by Syco and now that he is signed with Decca/Universal, things might be looking up for him. In fact I feel they are at last. I don't think they are going for the singles chart - which is rubbish anyway - but are making him an album artist. Much better route. He is doing a radio tour soon and then a tour proper later on. No dates or venues yet.
August 7, 201113 yr Joe should just step back from trying to base his career on reality shows and improve his craft-tour, learn to write and form his own musical identity. He could take a leaf out of Leon Jacksons book, he has been touring in the UK and US, learning how to play musical instruments and finding his own style. It is oddly enough paying off and he is like a totally different artist.
August 7, 201113 yr Author Actually Joe was asked by ITV to do Popstar to Operastar and he would have been silly to have turned it down. It has done him no harm whatsoever. That Leon Jackson clip is very good - I always loved his voice. He seems to have got more confident which must be a good thing. However, this thread is about Joe McElderry's new album.
August 8, 201113 yr I watched Joe on Popstar to Operastar. He was brilliant. Given that he had never had any opera training in his life before - he coped with difficult arias wonderfully well. I am very much looking forward to this album - the tracklist looks great and from what I have heard so far - Dance with my father and She was beautiful - the songs are going to showcase Joe's voice beautifully. Good luck to him - I hope he gets lots more opportunities in the future. He comes across as a lovely young man and he has a great vocal talent. He deserves to go far. :)
August 11, 201113 yr Author Joe has been doing a radio tour this week and has been interviewed by the various radio stations. They have played two tracks so far - Dance With My Father (gorgeous) and Somewhere Over The Rainbow. This is a song I don't really like but this version is very good - in an upbeat style. I cannot remember the name of the original Hawaiian singer who did it like this first but it is the best way to sing this song.
August 15, 201113 yr Author Fabulous performance of Canto Della Terra on Lorraine this morning. It is on YouTube.
August 19, 201113 yr Author I have my sticky mitts on the album and must say it is superb. Joe's voice is so pure and clear and the production is of the highest quality with no over production and absolutely no auto-tuning or backing singers - just Joe!

I cannot remember the name of the original Hawaiian singer who did it like this first but it is the best way to sing this song. It was Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Long surname I know  Tbh I prefer his version to the overated 'Wizard Of Oz' type-version. I'm not interested in Joe's album, but it's good to see him move away from mainstream pop - he's obviously no good at it (Ambitions was terrible) and he's more suited to musicals/opera singing I guess :) Edited August 19, 201113 yr by danielMFAO
August 19, 201113 yr Author Having said there were no backing singers, I should correct that statement - there is a choir on Va Pensiero and also on Nessun Dorma. The album is excellent and should do very well.
August 19, 201113 yr He did the Israel version of Over The Rainbow? :( I'm not interested in this album at all (though I did love Wide Awake) as it's my kind of thing but I always love the 'dramatic' version of Over The Rainbow, like the Judy Garland original and the Katharine McPhee cover so I would've liked to hear it sang like that by Joe!
August 19, 201113 yr Author We cannot all be the same Liam. I have no interest whatsoever in Big Brother! I don't like the Judy Garland version of Over the Rainbow as I hated Wizard of Oz! Scared me stiff when I was a girl.
August 20, 201113 yr Author I played the album in the car on the way to Ventnor (and back) today with two other people who absolutely loved it. They couldn't praise him enough. The only thing odd was the fact that the bonus track didn't play on my car radio/cd player! It is superb!
