I thought Someone Like You was a download only track :o

They did release it as a single in the end (like 3 months after it got to #1 ). I assume Adele normally releases physicals with her singles anyway, especially considering her fanbase.

I just hope Christina Perri can go further than #4.
I think Cher will end up top 5 by sunday, Probably #4 & 'Jar Of Hearts' will be top 3, Glad too see cher holding up tho! I thought she would be out the top 5 this week.

WOW thanks, I should edit the chart info for that I'm guessing, it still stands on download only :D

I just look at last week's topic, it is on download only, just the odd quirk

You should just check to make sure.

It was on the release schedule, so it definitely got released as a single in the end (hence the MASSIVE gap between RITD and SFTTR). Adele is an artist who I'd think would always release physicals with the singles, but Someone Like You was a bit of a different case, getting to #1 as an album track and everything.

Neither HMV nor Amazon has it as physical so I'm thinking it must be a mistake, it's just a download only single.

No, it was cancelled. Not everything on the schedule gets released

Do you know why was it cancelled?

That explains why there's no physical though. I would've been very surprised if Adele released a single with no physical.

Presumably they felt that it was already successful enough and releasing a single wouldn't have been financially worthwhile

I think they made the right decision tbh.

Although I'm confused, because they announced I think around March/April time that they would release the single a month or two later (so April/May time I guess). Surely wouldn't it have been evident, even by March, that a single release wouldn't do anything? The song had probably already sold about 500,000 by the time they announced a release date.

Well, we should ask her record label this I guess. I remember being gutted at the time when they said they were going to release Someone Like You, as it meant we missed out on the opportunity to get ahead of the rest of the world.

Concerning the Adele "SLY" physical discussion: In Germany "Set fire to the rain" did not get a physical release even though CD-singles there are still very important for the charts. There a track will only be included into the official chart when a CD-single gets released or if it is DL-only the record company has to pay a fee to register the song to the charts. In addition to that the charts are not based on the number of units sold but on the sales volume. Therefore in the singles chart 1 download counts as 1 sold unit, 1 cd-single as 2.3 units.

When "Rolling in the deep" got to No.1 in Germany it had very strong physicals, had there been a CD-single for "SFTTR" to it might have given her another No.1 or at least gone Top 3 instead of getting stuck at No. 6. :(

What's the point in listing where songs would be with download-only tracks removed anyway?
