After the french show of yesterday night, there is a huge controversy about Marine Le Pen (a french far right leader) suing Madonna after the video interlude of Nobody Knows Me (depicting her with a Swastika).

Madonna is still the queen of controversy

Madonna tells Moscow she prays for Pussy Riot

From the AFP:

US pop icon Madonna said Tuesday at her Moscow concert that she prayed for the freedom of the three members of the Pussy Riot protest band who face three years in jail for insulting Vladimir Putin in a church.

"I know there are many sides to every story," said Madonna, calling a February 21 performance for which the band members could be sent to a penal colony "courageous."

"The three girls - Masha, Katya, Nadya, I think - they paid the price and I pray for their freedom," she said to cheers from her Moscow fans.

"They deserve the right to be free. I pray for your freedom," she said, addressing the detained group members.

Madonna waded into Russia's most heated political controversy after arriving just as the three young women prepared to hear their sentence later this week.

The group staged a stunt performance inside Moscow's massive Christ the Saviour Cathedral during which they belted out words to a song denouncing the Church's backing for Putin and calling for the Russian strongman's ouster.

The performance came just two weeks before Putin's thumping win in elections that returned him to the presidency for a third term despite street protests from his liberal critics in Moscow and a few other large cities.

Madonna paused roughly midway through her highly theatrical performance that played heavily on religious themes to say she dreamt of a world where everyone was free to express themselves as they chose.

The US pop legend added that she felt fortunate to be living in a country where she enjoyed freedom of speech.

"I have the right to express my point of view," she said while adding that she prayed for others to obtain the same right.

Madonna's performance was preceded by calls from influential Russian Orthodox Church supporters to ban the concert.

Local media reports said a small picket was also staged Tuesday outside the star's Moscow hotel.

Alliance of Straights for LGBT Equality sent letter to Madonna that will perform in St. Petersburg on August 9:

Dear Madonna,

We are the Alliance of Straights for LGBT Equality and we are looking forward to you to perform in Saint Petersburg and support LGBT community of our city.

Today in Russia lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender people are being denuded increasingly more of their rights to express themselves, to be themselves and live openly as it befits free people. We are ashamed for the fact that our nationals are being declared to be people of the second chop, that they are being constrained to feel as social outcasts in their own country. Thats why we created the Alliance of Straights for LGBT Equality in order to express our protest against this shameful discrimination and persecution and to support our friends in their fight for the freedom and the dignity.

We rely on your solidarity very much. We are grateful to you for your support concerning the girls from the feminist punk rock band Pussy Riot Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Ekaterina Samutzevich that are undergoing the unjust trial these days in Moscow.

We are at you to state your position to support LGBT community in Saint Petersburg the same way clearly and unambiguously for tolerance and equality for everyone and against the anti-gay laws, against the homophobia, the hatred, the discrimination and the violence.

Your voice, the voice of a true freedom of mind and freedom of expression fighter, is very important for us!

Not only Russian LGBT community will hear you. Millions of people will hear you.

Your words will have a real influence on the public opinion and will help to break the wall of misunderstanding and intolerance.

Your voice will become the voice of those who are being constrained to keep silence.

In the name of the Alliance:

Alliance Coordinators Natalia Tsymbalova and Sergey Kondrashov

Alliance of Straights for LGBT Equality is Russian non-government organization based in St. Petersburg. It was founded in May, 2012 by a group of heterosexual people who support the fight for equal rights for gays, lesbians and transgender people. They have united to say NO! to homophobia, discrimination and persecution of our co-citizens, friends and dear ones belonging to LGBT community. The Alliance's goal rests in enabling the creation of a more tolerant and humane society in Russia in which the civil rights and human dignity of every person are equally protected.

MLAR Advisory Board Member Susan Rosen donated four tickets to Madonna’s 2012 World Tour to Main Line Animal Rescue’s annual fundraiser. The tickets were part of a special auction held on August 4th to benefit the Pennsylvania animal shelter.

Nick Adams and Dee Silvers bid $100,000 for four tickets to Madonna’s August 28th concert in Philadelphia (the first U.S. city in Madonna’s world tour). The money is believed to be the highest paid for concert tickets and the money raised will help support Main Line Animal Rescue’s programs rehabilitating breeding dogs rescued from Pennsylvania’s puppy mills, as well as MLAR’s anti-puppy mill campaigns.

The MDNA Tour - In Madonna's Own Words

From madonna.com:

My show

Is a journey.

The journey of a soul from darkness to light

It is part cinematic musical theatre.

Part spectacle and sometimes intimate Performance art.

But above all its a journey

From darkness to light

From anger to love

From chaos to order.

It's true there is a lot of violence in the beginning of the show and sometimes the use of fake guns - but they are used as metaphors.

I do not condone violence or the use of guns.

Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging.

In my case its wanting to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experienced throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken.

Ultimately as we follow through the journey of my story, the audience can see quite clearly what I see -

That the enemy is within and the only way to survive Disappointment Disapproval Judgment Heartbreak Jealousy Envy And Hatred Is with Love - not with revenge - not with guns and not with violence.

In spite of all the chaos and darkness and intolerance we seem to be encountering more and more in the world,

We cannot allow our anger or bitterness to swallow us up.

We come to understand that

There is an innate and pure love inside us all and we have to find a way to tap into it.

And we can't do it by being victims or placing the blame or pointing the finger at others.

But by recognizing that the enemy is within

And when we come to terms with it

And accept it

And struggle to change ourselves,

Then we can change the world without hurting anyone and we can inspire others to do the same.

When you watch a film there are usually good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point, Sometimes I play both.

I enjoy acting out this journey.

For none of us are perfect and we all have our own journey of growth to go on.

I know people can relate to it.

It's very important to me as an artist that my show not be taken out of context.

It must be watched with an open heart from beginning to end. I am sure if it is viewed this way, the viewer will walk away feeling inspired, Invigorated and will want to make the world a better place.

And this of course was always my intention.
