Just on Starlight for now and I'm really sorry but WHAT THE HECK WERE THE LABEL THINKING?!?!

 

It SCREAMS single, it actually builds for a start instead of just plodding along at a pedestrian pace like RFYL. It's so uplifting and as a SINGLE, is a billion times a better effort, for one it's instant, has more anthemic qualities and whilst I wouldn't go as far as saying it would have been number 1 as I tend to think no matter what he released, he still would have lost out to the tracks that are above him but I feel it would have had a much better impact, for a start, he would have SLAYED the X factor performance as it's much more kick ass, there's not a lot he can do with the Barlow track, it's just 'nice', and it certainly would be better as an incentive for people to buy into the album than RFYL is. I'm really quite annoyed about this now.

 

All For Nothing is not a favourite, but it's a great vocal :wub:

Either these people are incompetent or I am really coming around to it being deliberate - an Barlow song to meet contractual requirements and then get on with the real album. Either that or the really believe that just the name Barlow will make it number 1 which to be honest brings me back to incompetent (or perhaps deluded)

I honestly believe that Starlight was meant to be the first single but Matt was made to do the GB song. GB success as a song writer has been mixed at best. All I can say is Matt can now move on. I am so jealous of you all listening to the album.

I'm pretty sure the Gary's writing the winner's song is just a rumour. If so he'd have to have a 'one size fits all' sort of song as we don't know ( :lol: ) whether the winner will be an over, boy, girl or group. Otherwise he'll have to wait until the 11th hour and do a half-arsed rush job - a bit like RFYL.

I tried really hard to like RFYL when it came out. But it is formulaic and bland. When you listen to Matt's songs it takes a while to really get to know them. I love that. You can really dig deep into them (not sure if I've made myself clear there!) With RFYL after you've played it five times or so there is no where to go with it. It just stagnates as a song. I see no dimensions to it. Really heavy stuff I know but Matt's own songs don't do that. People often say it takes quite a few listens to get into Matt songs, and that favourites change over time and I think that illustrates how good a song writer he is. Anyhoo that's what I feel about the songwriting styles of GB and Matt Cardle. I'm not saying one is better than the other generally it's just that I prefer songs that don't just hand themselves over to you complete and sealed as a finished product.

 

 

Finally just need to add in the Matt Factor. When Matt sings his own songs another dimension is added. The emotion and understanding of the song just adds to the song especially when you see his live performances. There is no doubt Matt is a live performer and I can't wait to seem him live.

It will be tomorrow at midnight (ie when it is actually Monday) because albums aren't usually released at midnight tonight like singles are, for some bizarre reason.

I thought they were :o It happened with Aphrodite for me.

Aphrodite may have been one that was released then, usually for me it's a Monday. But it can't hurt to check at midnight if you're up/waiting up :P

I've got it and it's just incredible - the songs I hadn't heard of and loved; liked Amazing and Faithless as better in full and I didn't think that was possible - just f***ing unbelievable
