Saw her in concert last Saturday in Amsterdam. She had a great voice (as expected) and I loved the energy of the concert. I stood really close to Florence and her band and I also loved the crowd because strangely enough I wasn't being pushed aside and or squashed in between people (although some from the crowd sang along with the songs which annoys me to no end but I've never been to a non-acoustic concert where that hasn't happened so I knew what I was getting myself into).

Highlights were 'Spectrum' and 'You Got the Love'. I didn't like that she left off my two favorites from the new album though ('Never Let Me Go' and 'Breaking Down'). She did 14 songs in total and I THINK this was the setlist but I'm not sure because my memory's starting to blur.

01. Only If for a Night

02. What the Water Gave Me

03. Drumming Song

04. Cosmic Love

05. Rabbit Heart

06. You've Got the Love

07. Lover to Lover

08. Heartlines

09. Leave My Body

10. Shake It Out

11. No Light, No Light

-- (encore)

12. Sweet Nothing

13. Spectrum

14. Dog Days Are Over

Had a great time after the concert as well so all in all it was a great night :D

I don't really like Sweet Nothing if i'm being honest. I think Ceremonials is a brilliant album, but one you can't actually listen to from start to finish. It's not very easy listening.

There is too much going on in it. There is no proper ebb and flow of sound and it the character of individual tracks is compromised. When singles are taken out, its easier to appreciate them. Its like diamonds in an ugly set necklace.

Hmm. I prefer Never Let me Go to Spectrum but the biggest crime here is that because of Howl's lack of single status it will very rarely be performed in future. It may end up the Flo version Sarah McLachlan's 'Fear'. Isolated on an early album yet one of her finest works.

Sorry to dig this old thread up again, I just didn't know where else to post? I've been re-listening to this album a lot recently and realised why I fell in love with it the first time around! Does anyone know what the nearest to-date sales we have for Ceremonials are?

Speaking of Florence... WHERE IS SHE?! I need her music back in my life, she's taking too long! Anyone else craving more of her music of late?

Well she was on 'God Only Knows' so she's at least still alive! Haven't heard any news about album 3 yet though (I got excited seeing a thread about her on the front page but alas it was just this one being bumped :()

Oh sorry Bré! :(

I'm getting excited a the thought of new Florence too! :/

Can't believe it's been three years! This isn't as good as Lungs (few albums actually are to be fair), but it's pretty amazing still. Particularly Spectrum, Only If For A Night, Never Let Me Go and especially Shake It Out <3

Exactly right!!

I was a little disappointed in Ceremonials at first due to the darker tone and 'feel' of the album, but after a while, and especially three years on, I see it as better than Coldplay's and, whilst still nowhere near the new-age vibe of Lungs (and don't forget Lungs was so refreshing at the time, only Siobhan Dionaghy had done anything similar and not to much fanfare anyway), Ceremonials is excellent nonetheless and a nice change. I don't know what the third album will bring, but if it's like any of the songs you listed, especially Only if For a Night, or better yet in a more new-agey summer of '69 hippy vibe Lungs, then great!

It's interesting to think how they'll progress.

Bought the Deluxe version of Lungs today in HMV and am just reliving how much of an amazing artist she really is, album three please :(
I love her so much. Those soundtrack songs won't do. I need a new album!
