September 7, 201113 yr Author 82 - 98 (98-82) UK #2 81 - 142 Pink 'U & Ur Hand' (164-X-142-81) UK #10 YUtHjOvPKT0&ob Two climbers to their peak here, the first is for Rihanna with only the second of her 9 top 200 entries, it goes to 2009s Russian Roulette, a song many thought would be bigger coming off the back of the huge selling Good Girl Gone Bad. It still made number two it just wasn't the huge smash many were expecting, but it still remains a popular song as it climbs 16 places this year. Pink is also up and climbing to a new peak, a larger climb of 61 places for her though, I'm surprised U & Ur Hand hadn't been higher before.
September 7, 201113 yr So getting into the top 100 we come to the songs which reached the play-off round but failed to qualify for the final. In the history of this competition we've generally seen it be more skewed to the songs of recent years, so it's no real surprise that 16 of 17 songs which performed worst in the play-off were all from the first half of the decade. The worst performing, racking up 136 points (115 off qualification) was Shakira with Underneath Your Clothes, the follow-up to her debut hit Whenever Wherever which made it into the final. It makes the top 100 for only a second time after a complete absence last year. Also just inside the top 100 is the third of Coldplay's four entries, and completes the set of A Rush Of Blood To The Head singles making the top 200. Although it falls to its its third lowest position (it didn't make the top 200 in 2006) it remains the highest placed song off its parent album. This is absolutely ridiculous! :( I don't think the results from 2001-2003 were very good in reflecting how great that period was though. Or maybe I just like few of the big, well-remembered hits from that period, I don't know. I'm still shocked that a song like Romeo by Basement Jaxx (utter pop perfection!) came like 40th in the 2001 game or something to be honest  Agreed about P!nk - one of only three songs I like by her. The other two are Most Girls and Family Portrait. Clint Eastwood, Forget You!, Mad World, All These Things That I've Done, Another Chance, Run For Cover, Stronger - all great, all should be higher knowing some of the crap that's beaten them! Never liked Scandalous - it was a total "losing identity" move, too American-sounding (although I can understand why they did it as garage was hardly in by 2003 but I digress as usual!). Never liked Riva THAT much - ok enough tune but far from great, but I guess Dannii remaining in the limelight has helped it somewhat in these games. Edited September 7, 201113 yr by superbossanova
September 7, 201113 yr Author 80 - 90 White Stripes 'Seven Nation Army' (160-X-194-X-90-80) UK #7 0J2QdDbelmY&ob 79 - NE (79) UK #7 A pair of UK #7 hits here. The White Stripes best known song finally adds some consistency to its chart run as it climbs 10 places to reach a new peak of 80, it's helped to its status of White Stripes signature song by the video. Whilst most of their songs this year failed to do anything in either round this has managed to perform better across the board. There's also first of six appearances for Lady Gaga, with the third single from her Fame Monster collection, Alejandro. Despite there being so much Gaga around in the 18 months leading up to its release, it didn't stop it being a success spending almost half a year in the top 75 and becoming one of the top 3 played hits on the radio last year.

It's joined by another song which enters the top 100 for the first time, One Thing, the debut hit for Amerie, which reached #4 in 2005, a position she's never bettered and is unlikely to.

It's been very consistent so far, each year finishing within 8 places of the top 100 but has never reached the top 70, it almost manages to beat its peak this year but can't quite, can it next year in its final chance? There's also a resurgance for Kylie with Love At First Sight, a second massive climb for her, could it be her year this year with two songs in the final too?

September 8, 201113 yr Author 74 - NE Bloc Party 'Flux' (74) UK #8 fTLgrAc-6xU 73 - 160 (160-73) #35 Bloc Party's first entry in Record of the Decade came earlier with Banquet but their second soon follows with Flux, falling 15 points short of qualifying for the final. The danced up anthem is probably their best known song, and certainly most commercially liked. Although three of their previous singles peaked higher than Flux in the chart it had longevity and sales that haven't been matched before or since, spending 5 more weeks in the top 75 than any other song of theirs. Earlier on MGMT had a 100 place fall with Kids, now they have a near 100 place climb with Time To Pretend as its complete role reversal this year with Time To Pretend being the more popular of the two, it didn't quite make the final but a climb of 87 places is still very impressive.
September 8, 201113 yr Author 72 - NE Arcade Fire 'Rebellion (Lies)' (72) UK #19 j_aFmziaRdU&ob 71 - 68 (17-19-X-99-68-71) UK #1 A huge success for Arcade Fire this year as they enter the top 200 for the first time with their signature song Rebellion (Lies). It was a resounding success in this contest and was loved like no other song. Its seven maximums in the 2005 round was the most 1st places any of the 500 songs picked up, All The Lovers and Dancing On My Own both picked up 6 in the 2010 game but that had 12 more voters than the 2005 round. In the play-off the story continued. Over the two playoffs there were four songs that picked up top marks four times, but they were all trounced by Rebellion (Lies) which 8 people said it was the best song in there. However those 8 made up the majority of its votes, as it polled votes from only 13 of 42 voters, less than all of the other 69 songs. In essence then Rebellion (Lies) is the ultimate song for the fan of alternative and indie music, but outside of that it's not well known enough and doesn't possess enough mainstream appeal to be liked by many of BuzzJack's member base, leaving it falling a few places short of qualifying for the final where if it had made it would probably have been guaranteed enough points for it to be top 40 overall, instead of the 72nd it does finish. There's also a small fall for Evanescence with their 2003 number one Bring Me To Life, it did make the final for two years but then managed to fall out of the top 200 altogether but has managed to remain steady in the top half for the last three years.
September 8, 201113 yr Author 70 - 133 (133-70) UK #13 69 - NE Rogue Traders 'Voodoo Child' (69) UK #3 SrlhLaNClgw&ob Onto another indie favourite now with Empire of the Sun's We Are The People climbing 63 places from an already decent position. The Australian duo are made up of members of The Sleepy Jackson and PNAU (responsible for the greatest dance smash that never was) and achieved mainstream success that neither of those bands could get. There's a new entry for another Australian act, Rogue Traders. I'm not sure how this has never made it into the top 200 before, and then manages to almost make the final - most odd! Seeing the song Voodoo Child by and unknown pop act wasn't something a lot of music fans wanted to see but fortunately it wasn't a cover of Jimi Hendrix and was an original song which sounded perfect for the summer of 2006. It was their only sizable hit, as everything else they made flopped.
September 8, 201113 yr Author 68 - 17 (148-55-146-39-17-68) UK #5 67 - 92 Shakira ft. Wyclef Jean 'Hips Don't Lie' (29-152-113-92-67) UK #1 DUT5rEU6pqM&ob Last year Snow Patrol's ever present Run reached a new peak of #17 which put it close to the more BuzzJack friendly cover by Leona Lewis. Whilst Bleeding Love might have fallen more than a whore's drawers this year Run was able to reach the final again, qualifying from the same playoff as the original, beating the Snow Patrol version by 30 points. Both versions have their own fans and some say Leona's is the perfect cover, but not many people seem to like both with only 4 of 42 voters giving decent points to both versions. Not qualifying for the final missing out by 17 points is Shakira's worldwide smash from 2006. It was everywhere that summer (apart from Radio 1) and was loved on here at the time, but it's never had the greatest of success in this competition, making the final only once in five years, but it has been slowly improving since its 2008 plummet.
September 8, 201113 yr Author 66 - NE Muse 'Supermassive 'Black Hole' (66) UK #4 Xsp3_a-PMTw&ob 65 - 66 (200-186-66-65) UK #11 Supermassive Black Hole is a new entry for Muse at the 5th time of asking, and it's a very high one too. But at 66 it's not the highest, obviously there are still quite a few songs from 2010 still to come, but there are three songs from before that that have made the top 200 for the first time. Supermassive Black Hole isn't a song I'd have thought would be so popular, but as I said earlier with regards to Plug In Baby, it's hard to say what Muse's most popular song is. They've never had a particularly big hit but nothing has ever peaked as high for them as Supermassive Black Hole, and nothing has spent longer in the chart, although both Starlight and Uprising matched its 15 top 75 weeks. Despite all of Christina Aguilera's singles from earlier era's taking huge tumbles, there's perhaps a surprise climb for 2006s Hurt, as it continues its ever improving run moving up one place to another new peak. It was actually only one point away from qualifying for the final with its 237 not quite a match for the 238 picked up by M.I.A. with Paper Planes, but it's not the highest placed song here that didn't make the final as the other playoff had a higher threshold for qualification, giving four non-qualifiers more than 238 points.
September 8, 201113 yr Author 64 - RE Girls Aloud 'The Show' (94-X-64) UK #2 eGUIE844hxk&ob 63 - 46 (14-23-28-41-46-63) UK #1 For how popular Girls Aloud have always been on here their material from What Will The Neighbours Say? album has historically had very little success in this competition, and The Show charts for only the second time in six years, 30 places higher than it did on the previous occasion. They're joined here by one time rivals Sugababes with their 2005 number one Push The Button which for the first time ever does not make the final, although it did only just miss out, however it does continue its run of falling in every year. They have only two more entries, Freak Like Me (last year #32) and About You Now (last year #09). Will they actually be able to have an entry that doesn't fall?
September 8, 201113 yr Author 62 - 67 (40-52-67-62) UK #3 61 - 63 Rihanna 'Don't Stop the Music' (92-63-61) UK #4 yd8jh9QYfEs I'd say these were the two closest to making the final but that wouldn't quite be correct as Galvanize finished 5 points above Rihanna, not that she needed another entry in the final anyway. Britney's post-breakdown comeback Gimme More was a different side to Britney, it had a more classy and less bubblegum feel about it compared to the vast majority of her other material and the album Blackout gained her a host of new fans. Her it rebounds slightly but has always been fairly consistent with its final positions. Rihanna didn't quite get a 6th song in the final with Don't Stop The Music, but it does climb, albeit slightly, to another new peak of 61.

September 8, 201113 yr 'Uprising' will almost certainly get another top 75 week before long and become their longest runner. It's probably well overdue a 59p reduction now.
September 8, 201113 yr Bloc Party, MGMT, Arcade Fire and Empire Of The Sun all featuring makes me hopeful for the future of Buzzjack. HURRAH
September 8, 201113 yr Author So then, kicking off the final we have a couple of automatic qualifiers! 60 - 129 Wheatus 'Teenage Dirtbag' (103-76-124-176-129-60) (133 points) UK #2 FC3y9llDXuM&ob In 2001 this song came from pretty much nowhere to become an anthem of a generation of schoolchildren. It was huge hit and spent 15 weeks inside the top 20. It's still hugely popular now and a reduction in price on iTunes a few weeks ago saw it climb back into the top 40 and spend four weeks in the top 75 which was quite an achievement. None of the 7 songs from 2001 in the playoff managed to reach the final, so this is the third best song of the year, it's a shame older stuff doesn't tend to do as well but the member base of this place doesn't really change so older songs will tend to fall over time, although this managed to bow out with a new peak, which is pleasing. Apparently I didn't vote for this - wtf was I thinking?! Although I wouldn't have given it enough points to move up a place.
September 8, 201113 yr Author 59 - 44 Girls Aloud 'Something Kinda Oooh' (129-39-14-44-59) (145 points) UK #3 Wy3SV2fvoG8 Like Teenage Dirtbag which finished 2nd in the 2001 round, this finished 2nd in the 2006 round and automatically qualified for the final, so it's a bit of an under performance here as it falls to its lowest position since its debut, however four consecutive finals is not something to be sniffed at. Maybe it failed to perform as well as it was perhaps expected due to there being something of an overload of Girls Aloud in the final, this being the first of their five appearances. If I remember correctly this was a midweek number one and got hoards of online GA fans excited but was beaten in the end by Fedde Le Grande and Bodyrox? If that's right I'm officially a sad geek. :(
September 8, 201113 yr Omfg Arcade Fire. Love "Rebellion" so much, it was a huge hit just waiting to happen. Had it been released now it would go top 10 with ease.
September 8, 201113 yr Author 58 - 41 Lady Gaga 'Just Dance' (07-41-58) (146 points) UK #1 2Abk1jAONjw&ob This was a huge hit 2 1/2 years ago for Lady Gaga, it had performed so well elsewhere in 2008 that it made it into the 2009 game on the basis of being in BuzzJack's top 35 of 2008 such was its huge popularity. Better songs have since come though for Gaga and this is now ranked her best by only a few. At the height of her popularity this debuted at 7 but took a sharp fall last week when better songs were in the game. It falls again this time round and like Girls Aloud before, this is only her 5th best song. It appears there were actually three auto-qualifiers to kick it off as this was 3rd for 2008.
