Madonna said "There's a song on the album called 'Nothing Really Matters', and it is very much inspired by my daughter. it's just realizing that at the end of the day, the most important thing is loving people and sharing love. The birth of my daughter has been a huge influence. It's different to look at life through the eyes of a child, and suddenly you have a whole new respect for life and you kind of get your innocence back. It's this realisation which I incorporated in 'Nothing Really Matters', 'Little Star' and 'Mer Girl'." Released in the spring of 1999. The song hit #1 in Spain for three weeks and a week at the top of the US hot dance club play chart. The video must be the most mysterious video since Bedtime Story or Frozen. Madonna plays a Geisha - inspired by Arthur C. Golden's book 'Memoirs of a Geisha' - in a red kimono and a black Cleopatra-wig. The other creatures in the video seem to be her followers. First they all treasure false forms of love, represented by the bags of water. But that's not what really matters. Slowly they get the insight, symbolized with the people rising in the air. Madonna herself is walking and dancing through a long corridor. On the Drowned World Tour there was an entire Geisha-part which resembled a lot the style used in the Nothing Really Matters-video. Strangely, Nothing Really Matters itself wasn't included as a song. Then it was on the setlist for the Re-Invention Tour but was taken off the final setlist. August 30, 201113 yr Love this song! :wub: So underrated though! My third favourite from Ray of Light (following Ray of Light and Power of Goodbye). I don't like her hair in the video though, to0 straight and the bottom is too neat
August 30, 201113 yr Author This is in my top three of all her songs. Great video I love the bit at the end where she just laughs. Her pointer her finger is funny too. I was disappointed when she took it off the RIT setlist. Liam did you know her hair is a wig in the video ?. I guess you do.

August 30, 201113 yr Amazing song and video, this def inspired the geisha section on the dwt it really was strange that this song did not feature!! I wonder if Madonna finds this song hard to sing live , the grammy performance was not one of her best!!!
