Posted September 4, 201113 yr I've battled through BJ's technical problems and the commentary is available from the front page or the latest news box.
September 4, 201113 yr "After all, there’s a new Doris Day album out." And Example. Correct me if I'm wrong but David Guetta is only the second French act to achieve two #2 albums following the footsteps of Jean Michel Jarre. The latter has more top ten albums though. A French act has never reached number one. But correct me if needed.
September 4, 201113 yr Author I wasn't being entirely serious about Doris Day :P I suspect you're right about French acts. Let's see if anyone knows better.

Correct me if I'm wrong but David Guetta is only the second French act to achieve two #2 albums following the footsteps of Jean Michel Jarre. The latter has more top ten albums though. A French act has never reached number one. But correct me if needed. I was going to say Daft Punk got to #1 with 'Discovery' but that peaked at #2 as well! How odd that there's never been a French act at #1 in the albums chart... it's not exactly a small country.
September 4, 201113 yr Anyway, it seems bizarre that this is Dolly Parton's first studio album to make the UK top 10... Also, I didn't know that about Bombay Bicycle Club! This commentary is officially very educational. (Y) I'd completely forgotten about the Mercury Prize on Tuesday as well, perhaps a return to the top 10 for Let England Shake next week? And it could give 21 yet another boost... It'll be back in the top 2 next week.
September 4, 201113 yr Author Oh yes, I forgot about Daft Punk. I checked Air, Sacha Distel and Charles Aznavour.

September 4, 201113 yr Author The good, the bad and the ugly reached #1, not 2. The Virgin book says it reached number two  Edit: I've just realised what you meant. I was referring to the soundtrack album. The single of the main theme tune did indeed get to number one, credited to Hugo Montenegro who led the orchestra.
September 4, 201113 yr Yes, no French Act has ever had a No.1 Album, in the UK. One of those, who've had a No.2 Album is Richard Clayderman, who had his UK No.2 Album in 1982. It was his very first UK Hit Album - Introducing Richard Clayderman Red Hot Chili Peppers have their 4th UK No.1 Album, with I'm With You. Since the UK Album Chart began, (July 1956), surprisingly few USA Groups have had 3, (or more), No.1 Albums. There are only 7 USA Groups, who have achieved it:, USA GROUPS WITH THE MOST UK No.1 ALBUMS - 3 OR MORE 1) REM - 8 (3 of them consecutive) 2) BON JOVI - 5 (All 5 consecutive - Plus, 6 No.2 Albums - 4 consecutive) 3) RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - 4 (The last 3 consecutive) 4)=DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES - 3 *** 4)=THE KILLERS - 3 (2 consecutive) 4)=KINGS OF LEON - 3 (2 consecutive) 4)=FOO FIGHTERS - 3 (2 consecutive) *** = As regards Diana Ross & The Supremes - Their 2nd No.1, (1969), was a collaboration with The Temptations. The Supremes are the only Females in this List. 1) THE CARPENTERS - If you count a Duo as a Group, The Carpenters are an 8th USA Group to have had as many as 3 UK No.1 Albums. They've had 3 - 2 of them consecutive. 2) BLONDIE - They had 2 UK No.1 Albums - both in 1979 - Parallel Lines, & Eat To The Beat. One of the Group was a British guy, at the time. 3) BEACH BOYS - Despite having had more UK Hit Albums than any other USA Group, the Beach Boys have only had 2 UK No.1 Albums - both 'Hits' Compilations. (One in 1976, & one in 1983). 4) SIMON & GARFUNKEL - If you regard them as a Group. They have spent more time at No.1, than any other USA 'Group', in the UK Album Chart - 40 Weeks. But, they've only had 2 No.1 Albums. Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970) - 33 Weeks, & Bookends (1968) - 7 Weeks. (Greatest Hits (1972), spent 59 Weeks in the Top 10, but it reached No.2. For 3 Weeks). 5) FLEETWOOD MAC & THE POLICE - Those 2 Groups have had 4, & 6 UK No.1 Albums, respectively, but they are really UK/USA Groups. 3 of Fleetwood Mac are British - Mick Fleetwood, Christiine McVie, & John McVie. 2 of The Police are British - Sting, & Andy Summers. So, neither are wholly USA Groups. 6) BLACK EYED PEAS - Despite 5 UK No.1 Singles, the Black Eyed Peas have never had a No.1 Album. Elephunk, (2003), Peaked at No.3, Monkey Business, (2005), got to No.4, The E.N.D, (2009), reached No.3, & The Beginning, (2010), was a No.8 Hit Album. Technically, they are not a wholly USA Group, anyhow. One of the Men in the Group - Apl.De.Ap., (Allan Pineda Lindo, Jr.), was born in Asia - The Philippines. Edited September 4, 201113 yr by zeus555
September 4, 201113 yr Author Thanks for that extra info. I'm surprised at how few US groups have had three or more number one albums over here.
September 4, 201113 yr So there are at least 4 French acts with UK #2 albums (Richard Clayderman, Jean Michel Jarre, Daft Punk and David Guetta - any others?) but none with a #1? The entire nation of France is an albums version of Sash! it seems... zeus555, you wouldn't happen to have any information on songs which spent the longest time in the top 15 without going top 10, would you? Adele's Set Fire To The Rain has now reached 8 weeks.
September 4, 201113 yr Bre - I have checked, & I believe that Adele has yet another UK Chart Record. Set Fire To The Rain, does seem to have spent the most time in the Top 15, without reaching the Top 10. Since the UK Singles Chart began - November 1952 - I can only find one previous non-Top 10 Single, that has even reached 7 Top 15 Weeks. (Unless I've missed another Hit, that managed it). I'M SORRY - BRENDA LEE (1960) 49-42-20-13-16-18-13-12-15-12-13-12-16-22-27-36 = 7 Top 15 Weeks SET FIRE TO THE RAIN - ADELE (So far - 2011) 44-69-0-0-0-46-25-23-21-12-11-11-12-13-13-14-17-15 = 8 Top 15 Weeks
September 4, 201113 yr Author Unless some Fix Factor contestant performs the song soon and sends the real version into the top ten it looks like another entry in the record books for her then  She'll be needing her own chapter with all the records she's broken. Coming soon to a bookshop near you, The Adele Book Of Chart Records.

The Brenda Lee one is perhaps slightly more impressive though as it had a #12 peak rather than a #11 peak.
September 5, 201113 yr Here is another 7 Week one. Whether you count it, depends on whether you count a Re-Recording of the same Song. DAVID BOWIE (7 Weeks, in Total - if you count both recordings of it) JOHN, I’M ONLY DANCING (1972) 43-30-23-20-12-13-13-16-28-39 - 3 WEEKS JOHN, I’M ONLY DANCING AGAIN (1975 RE-RECORDING - 1979 HIT) 23-13-13-12-12-18-43-59 - 4 WEEKS Edited September 5, 201113 yr by zeus555
September 5, 201113 yr Author It has to be included even if only for the quirk of spending all seven weeks in just two positions :D
