I think its the lyrics mainly for me, they're just so bland. 'I bought a new pair of shoe's' .. 'Grab someone if you're single grab someone if you're not' 'All About Tonight' its just a little dull for me, no deeper meaning and all been said before in thousands of other songs, no uniqueness in the lyrics.

I think its fine to have an upbeat/club-vibe beat but lyrics need to offer something different at least, just something that stands out.

What Pixie has done successfully though is looked at what is current/selling and brought out a song which slots right in, and thats why she's #1 (ofcourse TV/Radio support too). Not sure it'll have great longevity or overall sales, and doubt it'll be remembered or played any time after this year.

You know what song i really liked from Pixie, Gravity! I really was in too that when it was out, where did it peak? Can't remember!

Well, it's hard to say with the lyrics, because songs have had those sorts of lyrics all my life. Maybe not so much pop music, but hip hop music has had lyrics like that as long as I can remember, so I wouldn't say that's "current" (although it is current, but it's always been current, if you know what I mean ).

I really like Gravity aswell! :D It sounded like No Air a bit to me. I think it missed the top 10 though. :( I really liked the Cahill remix of that song aswell.Which brings me onto another point. Couldn't Pixie have done a different type of song for All About Tonight. It would've gotten remixed anyway, to please all those people that like generic music, and then all those people that are looking for something different would get the nice pop song (like Gravity) aswell.

It's hardly a shameful extra sales when it's not really the main version, very, very smart decision by herself and her label imo.

It's not shameful, but shameless. Which is quite different. It's not the main version but it's still a version of the song being reduced to 59p for no reason other than to help her ensure the #1! I'd say that's pretty shameless (not that I mind). It's not as desperate as The Saturdays during the Missing You campaign but still quite amusing. I wonder why she's doing it though. Are they making sure Moves Like Jagger doesn't pass her?

130. Example & Laidback Luke - Natural Disaster - I heard this on Capital yesterday. They said it's his next single, which is funny, because I heard them play Stay Awake today, and they're still calling that "New Music" aswell.

241. Example - Midnight Run - I heard this TWICE on Radio 1 yesterday. So firstly, I'm surprised it's not a bit higher, and secondly, do they think it's the next single, or was that just coincidence?

Natural Disaster is AMAZING!!! Literally incredible. Anybody who liked Miami 2 Ibiza (e.g. MEEEEE!!!!) will LOVE this tune! :D

It peaked at #20 but had a good chart run and sold pretty solidly. I loved that track as well.

Adele has pulled out of performing at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Awards tonight. Although unforseen, it's a costly mistake - especially now that the remaining 11 nominees are all going to be performing. I'm hoping Metronomy in particular receives a boost from the nomination - it'd be a shame for some really deserving albums to remain unnoticed and for Adele's already celebrated ~3 million-selling album to win the prize.
As far as the lyrics go, All About Tonight is one of the most generic, cliched 'off the time' songs ever made. The only thing missing is a hideous name drop of places including London, Africa and at least one big American city.

In the news today they said she's ill (again), so that could be why.

You forgot about Ibiza as well :P

At this stage I'm surprised "ADELE HEALTHY" is not the headline in newspapers when she isn't ill! She's been sick an awful lot lately.

I can't believe people are calling Pixie's lyrics bad. Look at the lyrics for "All Fired Up"! It's literally the SAME thing over and over again. Love both songs, but I think Pixie's is much stronger and deserves to be #1.

To be fair, All Fired Up is basically a dance song, and then was given to an artists to put vocals on and get it in the charts. A lot of dance songs just have a line or two repeated through the whole thing (e.g. Beautiful People, Barbra Streisand, We No Speak Americano, etc.). They're instrumentally driven. The lyrics are just "there", like as an afterthought.

Pixie Lott - All About Tonight (Accoustic) 59p.

Imagine If The Saturdays did this with All Fired Up :)

I don't think an acoustic version of All Fired Up would be very good..

Gosh. Now THAT would be something. They'd have to rename it "All Calmed Down" aswell.

I really want an accoustic/piano version of Collide, completely stripped back, would sound amazing!

Aw poor Adele, she has a cold and laryngitis so performing could threaten her voice, she has been ill a lot lately, but its probably because she's been performing so much everywhere and hasnt stopped it, it'd happen to anyone performing so much and all over the world travelling and everything.

Just because lyrics in one song are bad, doesn't mean (slightly better) ones in another song can't be. The lyrics of Pixie's song may not necessarily be bad, but they are painfully generic. Whoever wrote it has clearly been paying attention to every pop/club/dance type song in the chart this year as it includes so many cliche's that have been used time and again.

Well considering we're in the iTunes thread they were (probably) saying All About Tonight is bad in comparison to All Fired Up/Collide. To use the lyrics of AAT as a criticism in that case would be quite odd.
I agree with him. You're correct, rapping in pop songs is popular at the moment, but I think he was referring to another popular thing in pop music at the moment, club/dance/electro beats, which Pixie's song has in.

It's not really the thing that rapping is popular is 'pop' songs recently, it's the insinuation that rapping is something very much of the moment and is a passing fad. Bit absurd when it's been a mainstream genre for 30 years and it's been a decade since the most successful rapper of all time was at the height of his powers and was the most talked about musician on the planet.
