'Lighters' is a brilliant track. I know it's been around for a while but it's only since the video release that I've become more aware of this song.

 

Foo Fighters are indeed doing well. It's outpeaked 'Walk' which made no. 19 for me but yes 'Rope' was such an instant song for me.

Hmm, I'd disagree to be honest. 'Lighters' is definitely not going to be this years 'Love The Way You Lie'. The video for 'Lighters' has been around now for a couple of weeks and it's only now #28 in the UK? I would like to see it continue climbing.

Well I've said elsewhere did in general nothing by Pixie Lott has made me stand up and take notice. Her songs are all very of the moment - the type of song nobody is likely to remember in 6 months time. I like 'All About Tonight' but it's just very much there and has no redeeming features to make it stand out.

 

That said, I find the new singles from Leona Lewis and The Saturdays even more disappointing. :D Yes, they've charted higher than 'All About Tonight' but that's because I like them more. However, The Saturdays and Leona Lewis have both had a few hits make my top 10 - in Leona's case 4 #1 singles, so for 'Collide' to be as high as #16 is very disappointing when compared to her chart history. The only thing good about 'Collide' is the backing track - it might've been better to chart Avicii 'Penguin' instead. :lol:

Oh definitely. One of the main criteria's used in choosing my BJSC entry each month is "do I like this song enough to chart it?". If the answer is yes then I'm quite happy to go along with it - regardless of how badly the song might end up doing. Ultimately, Gotye has become my worst performing entry in BJSC yet it's probably my second fave after 'Riverside' hence why these two topped my chart whilst the others were close but no cigar.

I'm sure it was Dré who said he disliked the song. Iirc, I had said I wasn't impressed, but sometimes if you listen to a certain type of song in the "wrong mood" ( :D ) then it won't make any impact. Hence by listening to this several times in a more lighthearted mood, I've come to appreciate the sheer daftness of this song. That's exactly what this is. It's the 2 Unlimited 'No Limit' of 2011. :lol:

Indeed this is very disappointing for Leona as this is the first single by her to miss my top 10. That said, I didn't like 'I've Got You' at all and refused to chart that song completely. It allowed me to compensate a poor single choice with that of 'I See You' from the Avatar OST which, imo, would've been an excellent single. As it is, 'I See You' managed to peak at #4 in my chart, Nonetheless, Leona remains one of the most successful artists in my chart and one of a handful of artists who have scored a Hits #1 single for 4 consecutive years ('A Moment Like This' 2006, 'Bleeding Love' 2007, 'Run' 2008, 'Happy' 2009)...

...as for The Saturdays, they've never had a #1 in my chart but a handful of top 10 singles. Their biggest hit for me being 'Up' which peaked at #7. 'Missing You' #8, 'Ego' #9 and 'Higher' #10 being their other top 10 hits for me. Do you see a pattern emerging? :lol: Overall, they've been relatively inconsistant as for every top 10 single, they've had one that's barely scraped into my top 40 ('Notorious' #36, 'Work' #40 whilst 'Forever Is Over' failed to chart). So this is better than their last single but still disappointing imo...

I totally agree. :D 'Fire Burning' got to #12 in my chart. It seems weird but after the disaster that was 'Beautiful Girls' (which I hated with a passion and ultimately failed to chart) he's had a couple of top 40 hits in my chart. I've not even seen The Inbetweeners film - this is just from seeing the music video several times over the last 2 weeks. :lol:

If any word best describes this song, that word would be "subtle" because that's exactly what it is. It might also explain why this just didn't take off in BJSC - it's not really BJSC material as it's just not pop enough. Had there been a camptastic Hi-NRG disco remix of course I'd have entered that instead. :D Alas, for me this song is perfect the way it is. It's a song that requires listening. It's definitely not background music as you really have to pay attention to focus on the lyrics. The way song continues to build and then Kimbra's second verse lifts the song to a whole new level. The chorus is *.* and that's why it's #1 in my chart. :D

'Lighters' is a brilliant track and considering the acts involved and the fact the video is getting plenty of airplay, I'm surprised this hasn't managed to get any higher on iTunes. It sounds like a smash hit to me yet for whatever reason this so far just hasn't connected with the British public teenagers. :kink: It probably will struggle to become a massive hit but I guess there's still time.

Well, from the first listen the similarities between this and 'Only Girl (In The World)' were more than obvious. I assume this was produced by RedOne which will explain why. A bit like how some of Timbaland and David Guetta tracks seem to sound very similar. To be honest, I think Nicole Scherzinger did well to get three top 3 singles although 'Don't Hold Your Breath' getting to #1 must be up there as one of my most surprising #1 hits of the year. As for the controversial video idea, I think Snoop Dogg attempted that first with his single 'Wet' but it ended up being toned down thus 'Sweat' was recorded.
