September 18, 201113 yr Tony Bennett is 85 years old (not 87) but I believe he is the oldest artist to get a Top 40 hit. A Dramatic Turn of Events is 5th charting album for Dream Theater but prevous four registered only 5 weeks on chart overall. Would be interesting to know if anyone has had fewer chart weeks with four albums.
September 18, 201113 yr Author Oops. I don't know where I got 87 from. I have been reminded on Haven (although I would have preferred to banish it from my memory forever) that various members of The Zimmers (who charted with a horrendous version of My Generation) were older.

He still quite possibly has the record for a solo artist though. (And before anyone says it, yes, I know Body And Soul is a duet with Amy Winehouse)

September 18, 201113 yr How about something like "he holds the record for a credited individual"? 'Oldest solo artist to get a top 40 hit' is fine, because regardless of whether or not there are any other artists on the song, Tony Bennett himself is still a solo artist. Or perhaps 'to record a top 40 hit' as Suedehead phrased it would be more appropriate since 'Body And Soul' is not a really old recording that's only just getting a release, it's still relatively 'fresh' so he would have recorded his vocals at the age of 84.
