Posted September 29, 201113 yr A breakdown of $1.29 song sold on Itunes 30% to Itunes 70% to labels, artists, songwriter/publishers.70% of $1.29 = $0.903 Spotify pays the label/artists/songwriters about $0.004 per stream. Which mean 225 streams will give $0.903. The same as a $1.29 Itunes song sold. Since it's $9.99 for Spotify Premium in the USA and €9.99 for Spotify Premium in Europe, I will use the $0.004 (instead of converting €0.004 into $0.0054 at the current exchange rate). http://www.spotidj.com/blog/?p=264 I have just received the Q2 statement on the Spotify payouts to the band Little Things That Kill. Spotify must be doing really good because they now pay 0.4 Eurocent per stream. That means the payout has almost doubled over the last 3 months. http://www.spotidj.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/payout2011Q2.png http://www.digimuziek.nl/nieuws/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/2011q2ex.png ---------------------------------------------------------------- Will the day come when UK CHART will count on-demand streaming in addition to downloads for its Singles Chart? Also, with its Facebook integration, Spotify is poised to add more paid subscribers. Right now, it's over 2 millions and rising fast. 1 million paid subscribers in the last 6 months alone. January, 2010:------------ 250,000 paid subscribers March 17, 2010:----------- 320,000 July 20, 2010: ---------------- 500,000 December 8, 2010: ------ 750,000 March 8, 2011:--------------- 1,000,000 July 14, 2011: -----------------1,600,000 Sept 21, 2011: ---------------- 2,000,000 paid subscribers Edited September 29, 201113 yr by Dust2
September 29, 201113 yr I can remember someone posting a topic on here about streaming to be added to the UK Charts at some point, just a case of finding it.
September 29, 201113 yr That was quite interesting, but there's just a small error - "30% of $1.29 = $0.903" should be changed to 70% - it made me think for a minute before I realised what you meant ;)
October 1, 201113 yr I hope they don't include streaming into the chart until sales start decreasing drastically, which hasn't happened yet. Listening to a song for free is not the same as choosing to keep it.
October 1, 201113 yr The only thing they need to add to the chart is digital music video downloads IMO. I suppose a 'problem' with that could be that songs which get their video added before the song could end up with chart runs like 63-57-59-1. Edited October 1, 201113 yr by Bré
October 1, 201113 yr ^ I wouldn't like them to add music videos. I know it might be the right thing to do, but I think it would have a bad effect on the music industry, since it will encourage artists to make good videos and focus less on the actual songs. It would hurt artists such as Adele, although I bet all those songs by 50 Cent, etc. with naked girls in the videos would benefit nicely, which I wouldn't mind. In the official charts in the US (Billboard Hot 100, etc.) they include streams from VEVO (and a few other streaming sites) in the chart each week. October 1, 201113 yr are there actual talks about including streams into the chart? Does that not mean that we could have weekly 'sales' of like 1m?!
October 1, 201113 yr are there actual talks about including streams into the chart? Does that not mean that we could have weekly 'sales' of like 1m?! There were a while ago but given it still hasn't happened it's fair to assume they've decided against it. If it did get included then it'd obviously be weighted strongly in favour of actual sales. Like, x streams = 1 sale.
October 1, 201113 yr A bad thing about including sales would be you'd get artists with obsessive fanbases doing well. I can imagine Justin Bieber and One Direction fans refreshing Youtube videos, etc. for hours on end to get it to chart high.

I can imagine Justin Bieber and One Direction fans refreshing Youtube videos, etc. for hours on end to get it to chart high. This wouldn't really have any effect whatsoever though. If it was, say, 1,000 streams = 1 sale, it would take an insane amount of effort to even advance the song by one sale by doing that.
