Radio 1 did support 'Look What The Cat Dragged In' (and I'd assume 1Xtra did as well), but unfortunately no other popular radio stations would ever playlist something as 'risky' as that. It did incredibly well to make it as high as #53 with the very limited support it received. Giggs' album went top 40 as well which isn't bad at all for a rapper with no top 40 hits. J Cole's album charting at #25 the other week is the only other example of that I can think of actually.

Some of the music getting pushed is very generic, very poor music. Someone makes a dance song, all over the radio. Gets to #1. Then it's rehashed, new artist name, same radio promotion, same chart position.

LWTCDI was edgy, catchy, appealed to the mainstream and underground. If he initially tried to get on the radio with 'Bus Commercial' or 'Hustle On' it wouldn't have worked. But this was the perfect song for him.

Also, Don't Go There which should've done better. It featured B.o.B, not sure if he was huge here at that time or not, but it should've done better.

^ J Cole's album really baffled me tbh.

I mean, its UK chart performance is strange enough, but he also didn't have any hit singles in the US, yet his album went straight in at #1! I can't understand why people there bought his album so much, yet nobody cared about the singles. They're like the rock fans in the UK.

I'm sure his sex tape with Rihanna also helped a bit with his sales though. :kink:

No, it was released before B.o.B got popular. Even I didn't care for B.o.B at the time (although I love him now).

Don't Go There was B.o.B's first 'hit' in the UK, it could have been bigger if it was released after Nothin' On You when people actually knew who B.o.B is but I still don't think it would have gone top 40. Even Giggs' most commercial songs are still far too uncommercial to receive airplay from anyone other than Radio 1 and 1Xtra. It's sad really, the charts could be so much more varied if the radio stations could actually bother to take some risks and play some different sounding songs :(

Does this supposed sex tape with Rihanna actually exist? I Googled it (look at me Googling for sex tapes, research purposes only of course ) and all I found was reports saying both parties denied it.

Well, earlier this year J Cole did a remix of S&M (which I mentioned on here at the time, since I thought it may become the single version, although I'm glad it didn't since he rhymes "chains and whips" with "chained and whipped" iirc, which rivals Pitbull's "Kodak"-"Kodak" rhyme in Give Me Everything :drama:), and then 7 months later we hear about a sex tape. So putting two and two together... :kink:

Seriously though, he and Rihanna are on the same record label and they work together, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just did all that to get J Cole more well-known tbh. Maybe not Rihanna and J Cole themselves, but I think it's likely that someone from the record label spread the rumour.

One can hope. Although Rihanna has pretty much revealed all and left little to the imagination. Not complaining, just sayin' ;)

The same site which broke the sextape news is the same site who said Jay-Z punched J.Cole for sleeping with Rihanna and that his album will receive no promotion.

Goodness me! Where do people come up with these stories?
